Global Cities - Odd One Out For each set of places, circle the one you think is the odd one out. In the box underneath give the reason why it is the odd one out.

Global Cities - Odd One Out For each set of three places there may be more than one solution as to which is the ‘odd one out’. Some suggested answers are given below. Where possible, the best solution is the one that most relates to the theme of Global Cities.

1. New York Los Angeles Mexico City Mexico City: The others are in a HIC whist Mexico is a NIC. The other two are both in the USA. Mexico City is south of the whilst the others are north.

2. London Paris Moscow Moscow: The other two are located in HICs whilst Moscow is not. The other two are within the EU whilst Moscow is not.

3. Sao Paulo Moscow Dubai Sao Paulo: It is located in a NIC whilst the other two are not. The other two are located in the northern hemisphere whilst Sao Paulo is not.

4. Chicago Sydney Tokyo Could be any of the three using the reason that they are only one in that particular country/ . Sao Paulo: In the whilst the others are in the north.

Chicago: The others have a coastal location whilst Chicago does not.

5. Mexico City Shanghai Mumbai Mexico City: The other two are located in Asia whilst Mexico City is not. The others have a coastal location whilst Mexico City is inland. Shanghai: The other two are south of the Tropic of Cancer whilst Shanghai is north. GCSE Geography

6. Sao Paulo Sydney Dubai Sydney: Located in a HIC whilst the others are not. Sao Paulo: Located in a NIC whilst the others are not. Dubai: The other two are in the southern hemisphere whilst Dubai is in the north.

7. HICs NICs LICs LICs: The other two contain global cities whilst there are no global cities in LICs. HICs: The other two are found in Africa whilst HICs are not.

8. South America Africa Oceania Africa: The other two both have one global city whilst Africa has none. The other two have no LICs whilst most are in Africa. Oceania: The other two both have a NIC whilst Oceania does not.

9. Europe North America Oceania Oceania: The other two have a number of global cities whereas Oceania has only one. The other two contain both HICs and NICs (assuming you allow the 3% of Turkey that is in Europe), whereas Oceania does not . The other two are in the northern hemisphere whereas Oceania is south. Europe: Europe has a global city not located in a HIC, NIC or LIC whereas the others do not.

10. Asia North America South America Asia: Asia has a global city not located in a HIC, NIC or LIC whereas the others do not. The other two do not have any LICs whereas Asia does. The others do not contain all the categories of countries whereas Asia has all types. North America: All the global cities in the other two have a coastal location whereas North America has global cities located inland.
