SRC Graduation Award - $200 The SRC Graduation Award goes to three members of the Student Representative Council who have, through their leadership, left an impact on Thom Collegiate. The SRC is responsible for planning and organizing events which include the entire student body of Thom Collegiate. Our goal is to make sure every student feels included and a sense of Trojan pride.

In order to be on the SRC, students have to be willing to commit themselves in a major way. It takes hours of planning and preparation to pull off events which appeal to the diverse population of Thom. These students give this time selflessly and truly reflect Thom Collegiate.

Thom Collegiate Grad Alumni Scholarship - $500 The Thom Collegiate Grad Alumni Scholarship is dedicated to recognizing two outstanding students who are academically proficient and demonstrate strong Trojan values.

Regina Board of Education Scholarship - $500 Each year, offers this scholarship to one deserving student who is pursuing a career in Education.

Thom Indigenous Education Award – Star Blanket The Thom Indigenous Education Award is in recognition of a student who exemplifies the embodiment of holistic Indigenous education. This student must be someone who shows concern for others and through leadership shares knowledge with others for the betterment of our community. The student must demonstrate resiliency and has educational and career goals that honour the spirit of giving back to the community.

Thom Magnuson Scholarship - $1000 This annual scholarship is awarded to a student who has been involved in the Thom Music program and will be pursuing a degree in Music Education.

Chris Sullivan Black Ghost Alumni Association Scholarship Thom Collegiate has a proud tradition of producing football players with a strong passion for the game. Our hallway outside the gym hosts a variety of Thom Trojans who have pursued this passion and gone on to play football for professional teams—including the Roughriders.

Dale Wilde Scholarship - $300 The Dale Wilde Scholarship honors a Grade 12 student who is well-rounded: involved in the school and community, demonstrates financial need, and academic achievement.

Thom Student Services Award - $300 The Thom Student Services Award is given to a grade twelve student who exemplifies our Trojan values in the face of adversity. The student recognized promotes the Regina Public School Division’s shared values: I respect; I belong; I want to know; and I am responsible.

Cando Spirit Award - $500 This scholarship is available to a student who best displays the following six characteristics: Leadership, Determination, Work Ethic, Ownership, Taking Risks, and Integrity. This student must be going on to pursue post- secondary studies.

Luther College Partner Scholarships - $500 Three scholarships are awarded to students who have been accepted to Luther College. Students are chosen based on the following criteria: financial need, school and community involvement, and academic proficiency.

DIVISION SCHOLARSHIPS

The following 3 scholarships are by nomination. The Scholarship Selection Committee will select the candidate from Thom Collegiate. The winner will be chosen by Regina Public Schools senior administration. Please advise your advisory teacher or [email protected] so that the Thom committee can review your application based on the criteria noted below.

Joan Sandison Memorial Bursary – 2019-2020

In 2001, a scholarship was created in memory of Joan Sandison (Woodley), who died in 1998. Mrs. Sandison graduated from in 1932, and was the recipient of the Governor General’s Medal, in addition to several other awards.

The Joan Sandison Memorial Bursary was created through the efforts and support of her family with the intent “to provide financial help to deserving students in furthering their education with the aim of developing leaders”. The criteria for awarding the bursary are as follows:  That it be awarded to a graduating high school student in the Regina Public School Division;  That it be in the amount of $1000.00;  That it be used at any accredited educational institution in the world;  That the recipient be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status; and  That it be based on academic excellence and extra-curricular activities for the last two years leading to graduation.  Weighting is as follows: • 60% academic • 30% extra-curricular • 10% financial need.

Austin Bothwell Memorial Fund 2019-2020

The Austin Bothwell Memorial Scholarship, amounting to $100.00, is awarded annually to the Grade 12 student in Regina Public Schools who achieves the highest mark in English. The average of English A and English B is to be used to determine the student with the highest mark in English.

Muriel S. Read Scholarship

The Muriel S. Read Scholarship has been established through an endowment from the estate of Muriel Selena Read. Two scholarships will be awarded annually. Each scholarship shall be directed towards a 4-year degree program in either Education or Humanities at the or the University of Saskatchewan. Each scholarship shall be in the amount of $2,000.00 for the first year and, provided the recipient maintains an overall academic average of not less than 75%, and maintains a full class load in either Education or Humanities at the University of Regina or the University of Saskatchewan, will continue in the amount of $1500.00 for each of the next three years.

Criteria for Awarding Scholarships: ♦ Canadian citizenship ♦ Not less than 6 years attendance in the Regina Public School System ♦ Academic standing for Grade 12 of not less than 85% average ♦ Intention to take or registered for a full class load in either Education or Humanities at the University of Regina or the University of Saskatchewan ♦ Demonstrated commitment to extra-curricular activities, community involvement, or an established musical talent ♦ One of the two annual scholarships shall be based on, or substantial consideration given to, financial need.

SYA SCHOLARSHIPS

Details for $1000 SYA Thom designated scholarship on next page. The selection of the successful candidate will occur by June 2020.

SYA INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIPS

Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) Industry Scholarships are valued at $1,000 and awarded to selected, eligible high school graduates throughout the province who have completed the SYA program and will be pursuing a career in the skilled trades. Students are nominated for SYA Industry Scholarships each April by selected provincial high schools.

To qualify for the scholarship, both the high school and the student must participate in the SYA program. In addition, the candidate must:

1. Complete high school in the current school year. 2. Hold a completed SYA Passport. 3. Within two years of completing high school, either enter into a contract of apprenticeship in a designated skilled trade and successfully complete the first level of technical training OR complete a Saskatchewan post-secondary training program in a designated trade.

The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) awards approximately 100 scholarships each year. Nomination forms are sent to schools, who are asked to nominate one SYA graduate. The graduate's achievements and dedication to pursuing a career in the skilled trades are considered as scholarship recipients are chosen. The scholarship certificates will be made available for presentation at the graduation ceremony or other event.

The selection of the successful candidate for the $1000 SYA Thom designated scholarship will occur by June 2020.

2. Students who are graduating Grade 12 this year have until August 31, 2020 to complete the program. (This is the normal deadline for SYA completion during the Grade 12 year.) Confirm passport requirements have been completed by contacting [email protected] or leave voice mail at 306 523-3607. You will receive a completion certificate and be credited with 300 apprenticeship hours.

4. Interview with a journeyperson challenge (Level Two / Challenge Two) – Brent Hill, SYA Coordinator, [email protected] or (306) 787-2368 can put students in touch with one of SYA’s journeyperson staff members in order to complete this challenge. Many certified journeypersons on staff are willing to be interviewed over the phone or via Skype. The trades that SYA staff are certified in are: Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Technician; Construction Electrician; Hairstylist; Food and Beverage Person; Carpenter; Plumber; Partsperson; Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic; Machinist and Electronics Assembler

5. Apprenticeship Experience beyond your school (Level Three / Challenge Two) – If graduating Grade 12 students didn’t have an opportunity to complete the job shadowing challenge, we will not penalize them for it. We understand that job placements have been cancelled due to COVID-19. SYA completion certificates will be issued even if this challenge is not completed.

Again, students have until August 31 to complete the challenges, so if restrictions are relaxed and there is a summer employment opportunity, that could fulfill the requirement. Similarly, if there is a previous work experience that could fulfill the requirement, that works, too. If the challenge cannot be completed, however, given the current circumstances, we will issue certificates even if this is left incomplete.

It is recommended that students complete an activity in place of this one, you can contact Brent Hill, SYA Coordinator, [email protected] or (306) 787-2368 and he will coordinate a call with SYA’s Youth Apprenticeship Manager. He can walk them through what a typical day on a job site looks like.

6. Career Fair challenge (Level Three / Challenge Four) – If graduating Grade 12 students didn’t have an opportunity to attend a career fair this year, we will not penalize them for it. We understand that all spring career fairs have been cancelled. SYA completion certificates will be issued even if the career fair challenge is not complete.

It is recommended that students complete an activity in place of this one, you can register to ”attend" the UofR Virtual Spring Open House on Friday, May 22, 2020. This full day of programming includes live and video sessions including virtual career fair sessions.
