State Hits Brakes on Election Canvass [email protected]
FOOTBALL DANCE WHITEVILLE AND SOUTH THIRD ANNUAL COLUMBUS COLUMBUS ADVANCE IN COUNTY DANCE FESTIVAL STATE PLAYOFFS WAS TUESDAY uu SPORTS 1B uu FESTIVAL 10A The News Reporter Published since 1890 every Monday and Thursday for the County of Columbus and her people. WWW.NRCOLUMBUS.COM Monday, November 21, 2016 75 CENTS Impact heavy on FB budget By Allen Turner [email protected] The severe damage to Fair Bluff’s res- idential areas and business district from Hurricane Matthew is still being assessed, but what’s also coming to light is the poten- tial heavy negative fiscal impact on town government. Towns rely on a number of sources of revenue, not the least of which are property taxes. With the business district essentially destroyed and a number of homes uninhab- itable, the valuation of properties will surely fall. In addition to property taxes, municipali- ties also get a percentage of state sales taxes. With business like Fair Bluff Ford and Ellis Meares closed for the foreseeable future, those revenues counted on in the current budget will be lost. uu FAIR BLUFF 9A ‘Alternative Photo by Keith Rogers This bluebird got a bird’s eye view of a deer hunter when he landed on the business end of this deer rifle on a fog-shrouded morning. proposal’ on school agenda By Allen Turner State hits brakes on election canvass [email protected] By Jefferson Weaver Tonight (Monday), the Columbus county [email protected] Board of Commissioners will hear a proposal from a firm that designs, builds, and manages An unknown number of provisional ballots school buildings to be leased by local systems. -

The List: All Primetime Series on Television Calendar Year 2015
The List: All Primetime Series on Television Calendar Year 2015 Source: Nielsen, Live+7 data provided by FX Networks Research. 12/29/14-12/27/15. Original telecasts only. Excludes repeats, specials, movies, news, sports, programs with only one telecast, and Spanish language nets. Cable: Mon-Sun, 8-11P. Broadcast: Mon-Sat, 8-11P; Sun 7-11P. "<<" denotes below Nielsen minimum reporting standards based on P2+ Total U.S. Rating to the tenth (0.0). Important to Note: This list utilizes the TV Guide listing service to denote original telecasts (and exclude repeats and specials), and also line-items original series by the internal coding/titling provided to Nielsen by each network. Thus, if a network creates different "line items" to denote different seasons or different day/time periods of the same series within the calendar year, both entries are listed separately. The following provides examples of separate line items that we counted as one show: %(7 V%HLQJ0DU\-DQH%(,1*0$5<-$1(6DQG%(,1*0$5<-$1(6 1%& V7KH9RLFH92,&(DQG92,&(78( 1%& V7KH&DUPLFKDHO6KRZ&$50,&+$(/6+2:3DQG&$50,&+$(/6+2: Again, this is a function of how each network chooses to manage their schedule. Hence, we reference this as a list as opposed to a ranker. Based on our estimated manual count, the number of unique series are: 2015³1,415 primetime series (1,524 line items listed in the file). 2014³1,517 primetime series (1,729 line items). Introduction Chapter 1
Notes Introduction 1. I write in the context of major commentators such as Baudrillard ([1970]1998), Jameson (1991), and Featherstone (1991), who regard the prominence of both mediation and consumption as key to understanding contemporary or postmod- ern society. 2. Andrejevic links these trends to another form of convergence, that between leisure, labor, and consumption (2004, 53). This third conflation, while significant, is not my primary focus. 3. For simplicity’s sake, I still employ the terms “television,” “broadcast,” and “air” to refer to the primary source for the material I am discussing, even though much of it is delivered digitally via cable or satellite and distributed in a more heterogeneous fashion than in the network era. 4. I will use “public relations” or “PR” as singular nouns. 5. Indeed, Baudrillard (1996) goes one further when he credits Disney with being the precursor of a recently begun process of turning all of real life into a giant reality show. 6. Perhaps not surprisingly, this has been my own experience on several occasions, but I have also heard others say it both in real life and on television. 7. Cinema Verite (2011) is a dramatized behind-the-scenes account of the PBS series An American Family, in many ways the most obvious forerunner of today’s reality TV. 8. In 2011, US campaigns for Kraft mayo and Febreze fabric spray adopted RTV narratives and aesthetics. 9. Technologies of the self are, in Foucault’s terms, the ways in which individuals experience, understand, judge, and conduct themselves. Chapter 1 1. In 2010, the US expenditure on advertising was $131 billion and global spending on advertising is projected to exceed $500 billion in 2011. -
