MEDIA CLIPS Columbus Blue Jackets at Boston Bruins January 2, 2020

MEDIA CLIPS Columbus Blue Jackets at Boston Bruins January 2, 2020 Columbus Blue Jackets Columbus Blue Jackets’ troubles in overtime tied to penalties By Jacob Myers – The Columbus Dispatch – December 31, 2019 Back in October when the Blue Jackets lost two games in overtime on back-to-back nights, John Tortorella didn’t hesitate to mention the importance of those additional points at the end of seasons when playoff spots are hanging in the balance. More than two months later, the Jackets have posted a 1-4 record in games decided in overtime or a shootout in December, prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Florida Panthers, while sitting six points out of the final wild card spot. In each of those overtime or shootout losses, the Jackets either lost on the penalty kill or had to kill one off. Three-on-three overtime can be a crapshoot, with its fast-paced nature and high frequency of odd-man rushes. But the improvement in those extra periods — and avoiding them entirely — starts with cutting out unnecessary penalties that have limited the Jackets’ ability to sustain any offense. "It's not so much getting back in the race, it's about winning the next game," Tortorella said Tuesday after morning skate. "It's about giving yourself a chance to win the game and not lose sitting in the box and taking more than two or three (penalties) during a game. Your whole bench is disrupted. It's hard to do." Overall, the Jackets are one of the least-penalized teams in the league.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips October 15, 2018 Top pick Dahlin scores first goal, Sabres beat Coyotes 3-0 Associated Press By Jose M. Romero October 14, 2018 GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Five games into his first NHL season, rookie Rasmus Dahlin has his first career goal. The 18-year-old defenseman, the first overall pick in this year’s NHL draft, put in a rebound 2:45 into the game. It proved to be all the Buffalo Sabres needed in a 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night. Dahlin was mobbed by his teammates on the ice. “They were really glad and that makes me glad, too,” he said. “A good win for us. It’s a tough league, but we’ll just keep moving forward.” Linus Ullmark stopped 36 shots for his first career shutout, Jeff Skinner had a goal and an assist, and Conor Sheary also scored for the Sabres. Ullmark, making his season debut, appeared in his 27th career NHL game. “It was sweet,” Ullmark said of his shutout. “I didn’t have to fight much to see the puck, so all credit to the guys for helping out.” Arizona failed to score for the third time in their first four games - including the second time at home. Antti Raanta had 20 saves for the Coyotes, who have two goals this season despite outshooting their opponents in every game. “If we’re not getting out chances or not getting our shots I’d be worried. But you can’t keep moving lines every time because you’re not scoring,” Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said.

MAGAZINE SPRING 2014 Securing the future ‘Hurst trains next generation of intelligence leaders Also inside: 2 Sisters of Mercy still on staf Chittister Archive opens Chapel to get facelift A message from the president I came to Mercyhurst full time in 1997, so I don’ t personally remember the days when the Sisters of Mercy were everywhere on campus – but I’ ve always felt that Mercy spirit. Even though the number of Sisters here was dropping by the time I arrived, you couldn’ t miss the legacy they had built here. You felt it everywhere, and I continue to be grateful for it. There are only two Sisters of Mercy working with us full time now. I’ ve told both Sister Lisa Mary and Sister Pat that they ’re not allowed to retire, but there’ s a real possibility that at some point there might not be any Sisters left on our staf. The question that needs to be addressed is: How can those of us who follow them ensure that the Mercy spirit and tradition live on at the university the Sisters created? One school of thought is that we need to create a “Mercy community” to take on that responsibility. I hope you’ll take a moment to read the story on page 15 that outlines this idea, as well as profles of our two remaining Sisters. I thought I knew our Trustees pretty well, but I learned a bit more about 15 of them who are Mercyhurst alumni in Mary Daly ’s feature story in this issue.
