SOLE VOLANTE UPSETS SENATOR NOLAN TO DISPERSE STOCK AT F-T FEBRUARY By Christie DeBernardis INDEPENDENCE HALL IN Senator Howard C. Nolan, who grew up in nearby Mechanicville, attended his first horse race with his father at SAM F. DAVIS Saratoga in 1946--when the track re-opened following World War II--and caught the racing bug. He was just 14 at the time, so it would be another 30 years before he purchased his first Thoroughbred and eventually developed a large breeding operation in New York. Now, with his 87th birthday approaching, Nolan has decided to wind down his involvement in racing and is offering eight mares at next week=s Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale as part of a dispersal of his Blue Sky Farm.

TAPPING INTO TURF POTENTIAL FRENCH FLAIR ADDED By Kelsey Riley TO OVERBURY When one considers effective crossover sires between Europe and America, there are a few in particular that spring to mind like War Front, Kitten=s Joy or Giant=s Causeway. Champion sire Tapit is not usually one of them, but upon closer inspection the turf record of Gainesway=s grey is better than it first appears, and his early results as a broodmare sire have turned out differently than one may expect. "Kayf Tara, obviously, is still with us, but he's 26 now, so he's not going to be around for much longer, but we're lucky to have had him." The parade offered an opportunity for breeders and breeding enthusiasts to see Sweeting's new stallion. Le Brivido was a high-class performer at two and three, earning an official rating of 121 for his efforts. Trained for his first two seasons by Andre Fabre in Chantilly, he spent his 4-year-old season with Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle.
