The only two road games during that stretch will be played tonight and Sunday in Chicago.

CLIMBING BACK FROM 1-0 DEFICITS Mikko Koivu notched the game’s first goal with his first as a Blue Jacket in the first period on Thursday. With Columbus going on to win in the shootout, it marked the first time this season that the winning team scored the first goal of a Blue Jackets game. In the previous seven, the winning team conceded the opening goal. It’s the longest such streak to begin a single season by a team in NHL history.

BACK IN THE CENTRAL The club will return to its roots for the 2020-21 campaign. With the NHL’s realignment due to COVID-19, Columbus will play in the Central Division and reunite with former division rivals in Chicago, Detroit and Nashville. The four teams were all part of the division from 2000-13. Columbus will also see a familiar face in Metropolitan Division rival Carolina while also facing off against Dallas, Florida and Tampa Bay. Every game will be a divisional affair in 2020-21.

BLOCKBUSTER TRADE The Blue Jackets and Winnipeg Jets came together for a blockbuster trade on Saturday with Columbus acquiring All-Star RW Patrik Laine and Columbus native C Jack Roslovic in exchange for C Pierre-Luc Dubois and a 2022 third round pick. The 2016 second overall pick Laine (140-110-250 in 306 career GP) has tallied 28-plus goals and 50-plus points in each of his four NHL campaigns. The 25th overall pick in the 2015 Draft, Roslovic has recorded 26-41-67 in 180 career games.

MAESTRO MAGIC Forward Oliver Bjorkstrand is tied for the team lead in points with 2-4-6 in eight games, recording all of his points in the past six contests. The winger who signed a five-year contract extension with CBJ on Jan. 6, led the club in goals (21), GWG (five) and multi-point efforts (11) despite being limited to 49 contests due to injury in 2019-20.

SHARP SHOOTING TEX Forward Alexandre Texier notched the shootout game-winner on Thursday two days after tallying his team-leading fourth goal of the campaign on Tuesday. He is already two goals shy of tying his career high set last season (6-7-13 in 36 GP). The 21-year-old has recorded points in five of the eight contests in 2020-21.

HOMETOWN DEBUT Forward Jack Roslovic made his Blue Jackets debut at Nationwide Arena on Thursday against the Panthers, finishing with 14:14 of ice time. The forward, who turns 24 today, was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets in a trade on Saturday. The 25th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft became the second Columbus native (New Albany’s Kole Sherwood on Feb. 16, 2019 at Chicago) to play for the franchise with his first game. He grew up playing in the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets program, suiting up for the 14U team in 2011-12 and 16U/18U teams in 2012-13.

GOALIES ON DUTY Joonas Korpisalo and Elvis Merzlikins split goaltending duties in 2019-20 and helped the club rank third-T in the NHL with a team 2.61 goals-against average. Korpisalo (19-12-5, 2.60 GAA, .911 SV% and two shutouts in 37 GP) was selected to play in his first NHL All-Star Game (missed due to injury) and allowed two goals or fewer in 20 of his outings. Merzlikins (13-9-8, 2.35 GAA, .923 SV% and five SO in 33 GP) was named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team after finishing second-T in the League in shutouts and fifth in GAA and SV%.
