CONSTITUTION OF SOUTH EAST SCOTLAND REGIONAL SCOUT COUNCIL PREAMBLE Whereas: (a) the purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities, (b) with effect from 1 April 2008 the support structure for Scouting in Scotland was changed from one based on 31 Area Scout Councils to one based on 8 Regional Scout Councils, (c) Borders, East Lothian, Midlothian and the City of Edinburgh Area Scout Councils have resolved to ‘amalgamate’, with effect from 1 April 2008, to form South East Scotland Regional Scout Council, (d) for practical reasons it has been agreed by each of these Area Scout Councils that, after changing its name and approving this Constitution, Edinburgh Area Scout Council should become the said Regional Scout Council with effect from 1st April 2008 and (e) the said Regional Scout Council is the successor to each of the Area Scout Councils referred to in (c) above, the following constitution was agreed at a meeting held on 17th March 2008 and was amended at the Annual General Meeting held on 10th October 2013 1. THE REGIONAL SCOUT COUNCIL South East Scotland Regional Scout Council (hereinafter referred to as “the RSC”) is responsible for overseeing and supporting Scouting in the local authority areas of Scottish Borders, East Lothian, Midlothian and the City of Edinburgh. It has a particular responsibility for supporting District Scout Councils in the Region in regard to development, recruitment, adult training and public relations. -

Through supporting the sector’s leaders during Covid-19, our members have shared their stories, supported each other and showed amazing innovation, resilience and endurance. We wanted to capture and share some of these stories as a snapshot of how the sector has continued to be an essential part of the response to this global pandemic and how our leaders have risen, and continue to rise, to each new challenge. We have started this document with an ACOSVO case study to set the context, but this publication is about telling our members stories. Bear Grylls Appointed New Chief Scout in the UK
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Sarah Facter: 240-662-2926 May 18, 2009 [email protected] Survival expert Bear Grylls was appointed Chief Scout of the UK, the Scout Association announced today. The host of Discovery Channel's hit show MAN VS. WILD is the youngest person ever to become Chief Scout. In this role, Grylls will serve as the volunteer leader of the largest co-educational youth movement in the UK. He will focus his efforts on promoting the policies and benefits of Scouting throughout the UK, and encouraging new adults to join the movement. Grylls, who will hold the Chief Scout position for five years, takes Will Ferrell along with him on a special episode of MAN VS. WILD on Tuesday, June 2 at 10PM ET/PT. The Cubmaster (assistant Scoutmaster for program) will host the first part of the luncheon. After the bridging ceremony, the course director and senior patrol leader will take over. The luncheon is to model a blue and gold banquet and be conducted in a lighthearted and enjoyable manner. -

In Scotland there is no direct equivalent to County or Area. In Scotland, Scouting is organised into Districts and Regions, each with distinct responsibilities. Some ‘County’ functions are the responsibility of Scottish Regions, while others lie with Scottish Districts. The focus of responsibility is outlined in Scottish Variations from POR. The equivalent role to County Training Manager in Scotland is the Assistant Regional Commissioner (Adult Training). For ease of reading this document refers to County Training Manager, except where there is a practical difference between the two roles, in which case this is indicated. The term ‘Training Manager’ is used to refer to those in The Scout Association who are responsible for managing training provision, including: County Training Manager, Local Training Manager, Assistant Regional Commissioner (Adult Training) Scotland and Assistant District Commissioner (Adult Training) Scotland. Family BBQ : We have created this newsletter as a way of keeping all the parents 1st September, and friends of the 113th up to date with what’s going on in the Group, 5pm and to let you know what’s coming up in the near future. Remembrance Service: All sections return to nor- 11th November mal meetings in the week commencing August 20th. Bag Packing: 15th December, To mark the start of the Tesco Burnside 2012-13 year we are hold- ing what we hope will become a new annual tradition - THE FAMILY 2013 BBQ - on Saturday September 1st at 5 pm, and hope you can all make it along (and the weather holds out!). Everyone is welcome who has a Beaver Camp: child that attends one of the sections, the section leaders and their 11th—12th May families and those associated with the 113th (you know who you are!).
