Extended Rectifying Curves As New Kind of Modified Darboux Vectors

Rectifying curves are defined as curves whose position vectors always lie in recti- fying plane. The centrode of a unit speed curve in E3 with nonzero constant curvature and non-constant torsion (or nonzero constant torsion and non-constant curvature) is a rectifying curve. In this paper, we give some relations between non-helical extended rectifying curves and their Darboux vector fields using any orthonormal frame along the curves. Furthermore, we give some special types of ruled surface. These surfaces are formed by choosing the base curve as one of the integral curves of Frenet vector fields and the director curve δ as the extended modified Darboux vector fields. Introduction From elementary differential geometry it is well known that at each point of a curve α, its planes spanned by fT;Ng, fT;Bg and fN; Bg are known as the osculating plane, the rectifying plane and the normal plane, respectively. A curve called twisted curve has non-zero curvature functions in the Euclidean 3-space. Rectifying curves are introduced by B. Y. Chen in [3] as space curves whose position vector always lies in its rectifying plane, spanned by the tangent and the binormal vector fields T and B of the curve. Accordingly, the position vector with respect to some chosen origin, of a rectifying curve α in E3, satisfies the equation α(s) = λ(s)T (s) + µ(s)B(s) for some functions λ(s) and µ(s): He proved that a twisted curve is congruent to a rectifying τ curve if and only if the ratio { is a non-constant linear function of arclength s: Subsequently Ilarslan and Nesovic generalized the rectifying curves in Euclidean 3-space to Euclidean 4-space [10]. -

Depending on the linear independency of the curvature vector with the hypersurface's normal, we obtain two cases for this extension. For each case, we obtain some geometrical meanings of new invariants along the curve on the hypersurface. We also give the relationships between the Frenet frame curvatures and Darboux frame curvatures in E4 . Finally, we compute the expressions of the new invariants of a Frenet curve lying on an implicit hypersurface. Key words: Curves on hypersurface, Darboux frame field, curvatures 1. Transverse geometry and physical observers D. H. Delphenich 1 Abstract: It is proposed that the mathematical formalism that is most appropriate for the study of spatially non-integrable cosmological models is the transverse geometry of a one-dimensional foliation (congruence) defined by a physical observer. By that means, one can discuss the geometry of space, as viewed by that observer, without the necessity of introducing a complementary sub-bundle to the observer’s line bundle or a codimension-one foliation transverse to the observer’s foliation. The concept of groups of transverse isometries acting on such a spacetime and the relationship of transverse geometry to spacetime threadings (1+3 decompositions) is also discussed. One of the most profound aspects of Einstein’s theory of relativity was the idea that physical phenomena were better modeled as taking place in a four-dimensional spacetime manifold M than by means of parameterized curves in a spatial three-manifold. However, the correspondence principle says that any new theory must duplicate the successes of the theory that it is replacing at some level of approximation. Hence, a fundamental problem of relativity theory is how to reduce the four-dimensional spacetime picture of physical phenomena back to the three-dimensional spatial picture of Newtonian gravitation and mechanics. The simplest approach is to assume that M is a product manifold of the form R×Σ, where Σ represents the spatial 3-manifold; indeed, most existing models of spacetime take this form. -

Problems of this nature arise in formal verification of con- tinuous and hybrid dynamical systems, where there is an increasing need for methods to expedite formal proofs. We study the trade-off between proof rule generality and practical performance and evaluate our theoretical observations on a set of heterogeneous benchmarks. The relationship between increased deductive power and running time performance of the proof rules is far from obvious; we discuss and illustrate certain classes of problems where this relationship is interesting. -

BUSSEY By means of such a generalized conception of geometry as is inevitably suggested by the recent and wide-spread researches in the foundations of that science, there is given in § 1 a definition of a class of tactical configurations which includes many well known configurations as well as many new ones. In § 2 there is developed a method for the construction of these configurations which is proved to furnish all configurations that satisfy the definition. In §§ 4-8 the configurations are shown to have a geometrical theory identical in most of its general theorems with ordinary projective geometry and thus to afford a treatment of finite linear group theory analogous to the ordinary theory of collineations. In § 9 reference is made to other definitions of some of the configurations included in the class defined in § 1. § 1. Synthetic definition. By a finite projective geometry is meant a set of elements which, for sugges- tiveness, are called points, subject to the following five conditions : I. The set contains a finite number ( > 2 ) of points. It contains subsets called lines, each of which contains at least three points. II. If A and B are distinct points, there is one and only one line that contains A and B. HI. If A, B, C are non-collinear points and if a line I contains a point D of the line AB and a point E of the line BC, but does not contain A, B, or C, then the line I contains a point F of the line CA (Fig. -

Said The natural homogeneous coordinate system is the analog of the Cartesian coordinate system for projective geometry. Roughly speaking a projective geometry adds an axiom that parallel lines meet at a point at infinity. This removes the impediment to line-point duality that is found in traditional Euclidean geometry. The natural homogeneous coordinate system is surprisingly useful in a number of applications including computer graphics and statistical data visualization. In this article, we describe the axioms of projective geometry, introduce the formalism of natural homogeneous coordinates, and illustrate their use with four applications. 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Key words: Umbilic point, principal curvature lines, principal cycles. 1 INTRODUCTION The study of umbilic points on surfaces and the patterns of principal curvature lines around them has attracted the attention of generation of mathematicians among whom can be named Monge, Darboux and Carathéodory. One aspect – concerning isolated umbilics – of the contributions of these authors, departing from Darboux (Darboux 1896), has been elaborated and extended in several directions by Garcia, Sotomayor and Gutierrez, among others. See (Gutierrez and Sotomayor, 1982, 1991, 1998), (Garcia and Sotomayor, 1997, 2000) and (Garcia et al. 2000, 2004) where additional references can be found. In (Carathéodory 1935) Carathéodory mentioned the interest of non isolated umbilics in generic surfaces pertinent to Geometric Optics. In a remarkably concise study he established that any local analytic regular arc of curve in R3 is a curve of umbilic points of a piece of analytic surface. -

Delphenich ______ A line complex of degree n encompasses a triply-infinite number of straight lines that are distributed in space in such a manner that those straight lines that go through a fixed point define a cone of order n, or − what says the same thing − that those straight lines that lie in a fixed planes will envelope a curve of class n. Its analytic representation finds such a structure by way of the coordinates of a straight line in space that Pluecker introduced into science ( ** ). According to Pluecker , the straight line has six homogeneous coordinates that fulfill a second-degree condition equation. The straight line will be determined relative to a coordinate tetrahedron by means of it. A homogeneous equation of degree n between these coordinates will represent a complex of degree n. (*) In connection with the republication of some of my older papers in Bd. XXII of these Annals, I am once more publishing my Inaugural Dissertation (Bonn, 1868), a presentation by Lie and myself to the Berlin Academy on Dec. 1870 (see the Monatsberichte), and a note on third-order differential equations that I presented to the sächsischen Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften (last note, with a recently-added Appendix).
