COLLECTIONS CATALOGUER (MATERNITY COVER) JOB DESCRIPTION
Overall Purpose of the Role
Provide daily support to the Museum and Collections team with a focus on archival work. This post is one of two Collections Cataloguers working together to complete a funded project by August 2014.
Summary of the Role
Work with The Royal Ballet School’s archival Collections, with the purpose of sorting and stabilising a range of materials and cataloguing them to specified standards using appropriate software. The post holder will also assist in the management of the Collections Volunteers who provide support in cataloguing, researching and storing.
Reporting to: The Curator
Line Manages: Shared supervisory responsibility for Collections Volunteers
Budgetary Responsibility: N/A

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Catalogue archival material to ISAD(G) and Spectrum specifications using Adlib software Help prepare material for display, research and long-term storage, using basic scanning, labelling and conservation techniques Process new acquisitions Assist with the loan and return of materials Some lifting of boxes of books, documents and artefacts may be required Support the Assistant Curator with the supervision and training of the Collections Volunteers Any other duties that may reasonably be requested by the Line Manager
Person Specification
Essential
A degree in a relevant subject and/or a post-graduate qualification in Museum Studies / Archives and Records Management or equivalent Demonstrable solid experience of museum or archival cataloguing Knowledge of current Museum and Archive Standards, particularly relating to the handling, stabilising and cataloguing of archival material Excellent computer skills, to include experience of using databases, spreadsheets and image manipulation software Strong communication skills and a good standard of written and verbal English Ability to lift boxes of books, documents and artefacts (within standard Health and Safety guidelines, manual handling training will be given) Ability to use initiative and work independently to progress projects Ability to meet deadlines either as a team or on standalone projects Interest in twentieth century British ballet history Empathy with the aims and ethos of The Royal Ballet School
Desirable
Experience of using Adlib cataloguing software Experience of working in a museum A good knowledge of twentieth century British ballet history Experience of supervising other staff/volunteers, setting work and providing support and guidance An interest in buildings of historic and architectural significance.
