Statues of Miami HEAT's Big Three Built by PrimeTime Amusements PrimeTime Amusements, a South Florida-based arcade and amusements company, creates 16-foot, 18-foot and 20-foot versions of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh For the first time ever, the Miami HEAT’s big three stand together at 16, 18 and 20-feet tall, respectively. PrimeTime Amusements (www.primetimeamusements.com), a global operator, seller and event renter of video arcade machines and simulators, has made Miami’s biggest sports figures – Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh – commonly referred to as the “Big Three” truly BIGGER than life. The massive statues are made from Styrofoam and were hand-carved by a professional sculptor before being hard-coated and finally painted. The creation of the statues was the brainchild of PrimeTime Amusements’ founder and president, who besides being a fanatic HEAT fan saw it as an opportunity to launch his Company’s newest division: PrimeTime Theming. This was evident during the recent lockout, which resulted in new league policies designed to hinder this flow of talent. The most notable example of this superstar migration was LeBron James’ move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat. There has been much discussion about the impact on the two franchises directly involved in this transaction. However, the indirect impact on the other 28 teams in the league has not been discussed much. This paper attempts to examine this impact by analyzing the effect that home market size has on the superstar externality that Hausman & Leonard discovered in their 1997 paper. A road attendance model is constructed for the 2008-09 to 2011-12 seasons to compare LeBron’s “superstar effect” in Cleveland versus his effect in Miami. An increase of almost 15 percent was discovered in the LeBron superstar variable, suggesting that the move to a bigger market positively affected LeBron’s fan appeal.

It took Danny Ferry exactly seven days in his new role as the Atlanta Hawks' president of basketball operations and general manager to completely change the face of the franchise. His ability to swiftly orchestrate separate deals to part with high-priced veterans Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams signaled a commitment to rebuilding and shed as much as $77 million still owed to the two veterans beyond next season. Fast-forward two-and-a-half months to today, and Ferry's rebuilt roster has only a handful of contracts that go beyond the 2012-13 season: • Al Horford : Signed through 2015-16. • Lou Williams : Signed through 2013-14. • John Jenkins : 2012 first-round pick. • Mike Scott : 2012 second-round pick. • Jeff Teague : Due to become a restricted free agent at season's end, barring an extension. Notice one big name we didn't mention: Josh Smith . The tantalizingly talented, yet often frustrating, forward is among the many Hawks entering the final year of their deals, and he represents arguably the biggest challenge for Ferry to date: what to do with Smith. If handled correctly, this could be the next step toward eventually turning the Hawks into a perennial playoff contender. Mishandled, and this could undo everything good that came out of the trades of Johnson and Williams. So the question is, what's the smarter move for Ferry and the Hawks? a) Negotiate an extension that will keep Smith in Atlanta for the long term.

Outkast broke up, Nysnc separated, Jay-Z and Dame Dash split, even the Beatles broke up. If you name your favorite sitcom over the last 30 years the most likely scenario for its ending was because people outgrew each other and there wasn't enough money to spread around. That's exactly what has to happen in Miami to keep LeBron James happy and winning. Miami had a great run atop the Eastern Conference, becoming only the third franchise to make it to four straight NBA Finals, winning back-to-back titles and recording the second longest winning streak in league history. In 2013, the Heat became the first team to win the title despite being last in the league in rebounding. Yet even with Pat Riley's public address it's impossible to whole-heartedly believe that adding minimum pieces to the quote unquote Big Three is enough to win any more championships. You're only as strong as your weakest link, which in this case is an undersized shooting guard, losing all athletic ability, who can't shoot, has fallen off as an elite defender and whose durability has only worsened over the course of his 11 seasons. Dwyane Wade has no value on the market because he has played awful on top of Father Time and intensifying gravity every time he tries to make a lay-up. Wade has never played in a full 82-game season and missed double-digit games during the lockout season.
