In the first half, Michigan State made just seven field goals, but shot 12-of-12 from the foul line as the score was tied at the break. In the second half, MSU slowly pulled away and led 41-33 with 13:04 remaining. Ohio State cut the lead to 47-43, before a 8-0 MSU run put the game away as OSU never got closer than 10 points. The Spartans connected on their first 26 free throw attempts and did not miss until 1:11 left in the game. Alan Anderson shot 14- of-14 from the line, tying him for the fourth-best effort in MSU history.
