OVERALL PURPOSE To lead and be accountable for the development, delivery and/or performance of:  The Football Philosophy of New Zealand Football – as per the National Curriculum  Whole of Football delivery within New Zealand including service delivery to Federations.  Talent development within the NZ Football system  National Teams co-ordination and planning in conjunction with head coaches and performance specialists, working closely with the High Performance and Player Welfare Committees.  Coach and Referee Education and Development alongside overall oversight of the Football Development Team working with Federations to grow participation in Football across New Zealand.  Player Development to evaluate and improve capability in all areas of elite and domestic football and Futsal

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Technical Director is responsible for ensuring that players, coaches and referees and administrators have a clear pathway from community participation through to National Teams. To ensure the mechanisms are in place to support elite football and futsal and ensure that coaching, training refereeing and administrative programmes are available to ensure this occurs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Planning  Develop, implement and be accountable for national teams planning and work closely with the CEO and Football Ferns and All Whites Head Coaches with respect to national teams planning to deliver on the High Performance strategy.  Identifies opportunities aligned to high performance strategies  Advise and support the development of football within the community football strategy

Elite Performance  Develop and lead an elite culture for players and staff representing New Zealand  Take ownership of the National Teams programmes  Take accountability for and oversight of financial aspects (including budgets/forecasts) of the Technical Department  Oversee the research of best practice in the areas of high performance  Ensure the pillars of high performance are entrenched with NZF  Ensure compliance with all relevant rules and regulations (e.g. FIFA, OFC, NZF, NZOC etc.)

Coaching  Provide leadership and mentoring to the elite coaches so that agreed plans, policies and procedures are in place and monitored for all Football development activities  Direct and oversee coaching development within NZF  Ensure delivery of the Elite Coaching plan to identify, support and develop New Zealand’s most talented coaches from Youth through to Senior level  Deliver elements of Advanced coach development as and when required  Monitor and evaluate the Elite Coaching plan

Player Pathway:  Continually improve the existing player development pathways for NZ players, both male and female, from club through to elite levels  Advise and co-ordinate input into the development of a High Performance Training Centre.  Develop and maintain a player tracking database for all players and potential players of elite levels  Set direction for and oversee an effective Elite Talent Development plan

Referees  Direct and oversee referee development within NZF  Ensure delivery of the National Referee Recruitment and Retention Programme, ensuring that there is a transparent pathway for all referees

Relationships  Liaise with key football stakeholders in NZ and internationally including but not limited to Wellington Phoenix, Federations, OFC, HPSNZ, Sport NZ, NZOC, PFA, International Clubs and NZ players as required. 2

Staff Management:  Lead, manage and motivate direct reports, ensuring that objectives are met to agreed standards and timeframes.  Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and development across the team and organisation.  Manage budgets and business processes for the Technical unit.

QUALIFICATIONS Essential: Preferred:  A tertiary based qualification  A degree in sports management  OFC / NZF “A” Coaching Licence or international equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Work Experience  Experience of operating in a High Performance and National Team environment Knowledge  Knowledge of football with a strong understanding of Coach Development within the NZ context.  An understanding of sports science and sport medicine requirements for football  A detailed understanding of the New Zealand Football National Curriculum and Whole of Football plan.  An understanding of the wider social and political context in which NZF operates  An awareness of the place of football (and sport) in New Zealand Skills  Strong leadership and team development abilities, and an ability to motivate skilled professional staff in a performance-focused environment  Ability to work with a range of people in a range of environments  An ability to work unsupervised and take ownership of problems
