United Way of Will County is...

• ACCOUNTABLE- United Way of Will County partner agencies must adhere to an annual review process led by community volunteers. These volunteers hold the agencies accountable by looking for measurable outcomes, ensuring financial integrity, and by making sure programs and services are continuing to meet the needs of our community. Thus, this committee allows us to be accountable to our donors, further ensuring that donor dollars are being utilized in the most efficient manner.

• COST EFFICIENT- 89.4% of all contributions to United Way of Will County are used to support the numerous programs and services provided by our partner agencies and United Way. • $1/week provides year of school supplies for an elementary student • $2/week provides 2 sessions of developmental therapy for a child • $3/week provides 16 disaster victims with one meal • $5/week provides 13 women and their children with domestic violence services to help them recover from abuse.

• EFFECTIVE- United Way of Will County supports a network of local nonprofit agencies that provide programs and services that address the most critical needs of Will County communities.

FOSTERING SAFER FRANK TURK, SR. OUTSTANDING CAMPAIGN ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Frank Turk, Sr. called on local businesses for more than 70 years. He would enthusiastically ask each company and its employees to & STRONGER COMMUNITIES pledge their support for our annual United Way Campaign. He also served for many years on our Programs & Allocations Committee. Mr. Frank Turk, Sr. was a mentor and a trusted colleague. He served on numerous community organization boards and held several distinguished offices. Our United Way Board of Directors created the FRANK TURK, SR. OUTSTANDING CAMPAIGN ACHIEVEMENT AWARD in commemoration after his death in 1995. This annual award recognizes the work-place campaign that exemplifies Mr. Turk’s spirit, enthusiasm, and loyalty of “working hard” for the benefit of our United Way of Will County.

In many cases, the United Way is ‘behind- the-scenes’ helping to connect businesses and services with those in need. In others, the organization supports the United Way by using it’s resources to identify areas of need within the community.

2-1-1 Non-emergency telephone number to connect people to community information and services. Together with Crisis Line of Will County and other local United Way’s, we are collaborating researching this service to bring 2-1-1 to Will & Grundy Counties.

Community Services Council of Will County Shares information with residents of Will County on the needs and resources available; supports the United Way by data gathering; supports existing agencies and encourages the formation of additional agencies. FamilyWize Free prescription drug discount cards that save an average of 30% or more for uninsured and under-insured individuals and families in the Will County area. Visit www.uwwill.org to download a card and to see an updated total on dollars saved. Joliet Alliance For Youth (JAY) Strives to improve services for youth in the Joliet area by encouraging cooperation between member youth organizations through networking, sharing information and collaborating effectively. South West Suburban Philanthropic Network Provides support and education for fund-raising professionals in the nonprofit community in Chicago’s southwest suburban region; encourages coordination of efforts and strives to improve standards. Will County MAPP Project Strives to be a progressive community that maximizes the use of community partnerships and collaboration among all sectors to ensure, enhance and promote comprehensive, quality and equitable education, healthcare and social services.

ROGER OSMAN AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED VOLUNTEER SERVICE Mr. Roger Osman, was an outstanding leader in the Will/Grundy County Labor Movement and a dedicated volunteer for our United Way of Will County. He served as a member of our Board of Directors, Programs & Allocations Committee, and Campaign Leadership Committee. This award, created in memory of Roger Osman after his death in 1990, is to serve as a reminder to the community of the many ways Mr. Osman generously gave of his time and talents to benefit our United Way. 16 | United Way of Will County PROGRAMS AND ALLOCATIONS Our Programs & Allocations volunteers work toward informed funding decisions to best utilize the generous donations received from individuals and corporations for our United Way Partner Agency programs. These volunteers invest a generous amount of their time visiting each of the United Way funded programs, examining detailed financial reports, and ensuring that service providers are accountable. After careful consideration, volunteers determine the most effective and efficient use of available resources to meet local needs and responsibly invest donor’s contributions.
