STATE OF ENVIRONMENT (SOE) REPORT – TIKAMGARH Executive Summary Welcome to the Tikamgarh State of Environment Report. The State of Environment Report provides a summary of the environmental attributes and condition of the district and the human impacts on the environment. It also provides a public record of district authority, industry and community activities and achievements in responding to pressures on the environment. State of the Environment Reports can therefore be considered as a mechanism for reporting on progress towards Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD). State of the Environment (SoE) Reporting will be an annual requirement of district authority, coinciding with Annual Plan and prepared for each financial year. It involves looking at: the various pressures on the environment; the state or condition of the environment at the time of reporting; and any responses that has been or will be made to better manage environmental pressures or impacts to improve environmental conditions. So the main objective of the SoE Report of Tikamgarh is to bring out an overview of the environmental scenario of the district to serve as a baseline document and assist in logical and information based decision making. It is recognized that to achieve ESD within district the activities of annual plan require a shift in priorities, which involves the integration of environmental considerations into the development of community goals/targets, strategies, economic policies, and decision-making in every sphere of activity. The SoE Report provides a mechanism for identifying sustainability issues and trends, and therefore provides a mechanism for assisting the prioritization of district plan in achieving ESD The State of the Environment Report prepared for Tikamgarh covers the state and trends of the environmental issues like Agriculture, Forest, Land degradation, Water quantity, and Water quality. -

10- Mitigating Water Quality Problems in Bundelkhand - INREM FOUNDATION (i) About INREM Foundation INREM Foundation is a research institution probing societal issues concerning water, public health, agriculture and the environment. The institution develops innovative inter- disciplinary solutions and brings them into the wider domain of practice by participating with communities and government. The goal towards a Fluorosis free India guides INREM's work for the past 10 years from its initial work in Jhabua and now to the rest of the country. In this journey, the organization started small from a community based programme in Jhabua (MP), developed a national network on the issue, known as the Fluoride Knowledge and Action Network (FKAN), and now scaling up through District level people centric platforms, and Technology aided platforms, across the country, on the Fluoride issue. Currently, INREM has presence in 9 fluoride affected districts of 5 states: Rajasthan, MP, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and Assam, with a state level partnership in Assam and Rajasthan with the state Water and Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO). It is now supported by the European Union (EU), Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI) Arghyam and UNICEF. These initiatives are now leading INREM closer to its goal of a Fluorosis free India. INREM was constituted in 1994 with support from Winrock International, Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation. It originally started with a need felt by natural resource economists to impact teaching, training and research in their field in India. Team-INREM together, they bring forward a combination of research skills, social work experience and innovative product development approaches. INREM projects are solution-oriented. -

About 377 million (31%)1 of India’s population lives in 7,935 urban areas and contributes 63% of gross domestic product (GDP). About 70% of the urban population resides in 4682 rapidly growing urban agglomerations and cities with a population of over 100,000, including 53 cities with a population of more than a million. Growth in the remaining small towns was nominal. The contribution to GDP from the urban areas is expected to increase to about 75% as the proportion of urban population reaches 40% of the total population by 2030. 2. Urban water supply in India is characterized by intermittent water supply (often for a couple of hours in a week) and low coverage, high nonrevenue water, and poor cost recovery. No city in India can claim for universal coverage with continuous pressurized water supply. The service levels are even lower in small towns, which have been upgraded from village character to a town. These small towns mostly depend on local groundwater sources with no treatment and no planned hydraulic networks. The small town local bodies have been struggling with limited financial resources further aggravated by a lack of competent and skilled human resources capable of delivering services expected from a fully functional water utility. 3. The investment in urban infrastructure3 up to the year 2031 was estimated at $53.5 billion for water supply and $40.5 billion for sewerage services at 2009–10 prices. -

In Madhya Pradesh, out of 313 blocks, 23 blocks extended to over exploited category, 09 blocks are in critical stage and 57 blocks are in semi critical stage (MP Dynamic Ground Water Assessment, 2015). As per rules of CGWB, the areas where the water level could not recuperated upto 3m depth after the monsoon K e yw or ds season, will essential artificial recharge. The solution lies in harvesting rainwater in farmers‟ field which are kept or left fallow for one reason or another. Though, all Groundwater these fields may not be good enough to recharge groundwater like percolation tanks recharge, Kharif but transfer water well below at least @4 mm/day even in clayey soils. So, to decide fallow, Priority which area is to be taken first in present study a method of identification of priority is Article Info proposed. Four basic criteria to decide the priority namely, amount of annual rainfall, the soil type, stage of ground water development stage and extent of kharif fallow. -

Like the other countries of the world, India too is ready to set new mile stones in the field of industrialization. The desire of India is apparently seen in the constantly increasing number S.S. Charan of industries. The Government of India also wants more and more Lecturer, industries to be launched here. Stone industry is one of the most popular Deptt. of Economics, and profitable industry. India is so rich in the stone mines. The stone Govt. P.G. College, manufactured in the various parts of the country is exported which results Dholpur, Rajasthan into a tremendous national income. The present paper reflects the scenario of the stone mines in Sarmathura and Baseri in Dholpur district which evidently witnesses the possibilities of the growth and development of the stone industry in Rajasthan. The study is an empirical one conducted on 100 units of information selected randomly from the specified study area and is in perfect adherence to the steps of scientific method. Keywords: Stone Industry, Broken Grounds, Sand Stone Hills, Spittable Sandstone. Introduction District Dholpur is situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan. The district came into existence in 1982 comprising four tehsils of Bharatpur Rajesh Kumar Sharma namely Dholpur, Rajakhera, Bari and Baseri. Physiography of India ● India lies in the northern hemisphere of the globe between 8o 4’ N and 37o6’ N latitudes and 68o7’ E and 97o25’ E longitudes. ● The southern extent goes up to 6o45’ N latitude to cover the last island of the Nicobar group of islands. The southern extreme is called Pygmalion Point or India Point. ● The Tropic of Cancer passes through the middle part of India and crosses the eight states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura and Mizoram. ● The total land frontier of 15,200 km passes through marshy lands, desert, plains, mountains, snow-covered areas and thick forests. ● The maritime boundary of 6100 km along the main landmass which increases to 7516 km of the coastlines of Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands are added to it. ● India commands a total geographical area of 32,87,263 sq.km which is roughly 0.57% of the area of the earth and 2.4% of the total area of the land hemisphere. ● India is the seventh-largest country of the world after Russia, Canada, USA, China, Brazil and Australia (all are mentioned in the descending order). ● India’s area is almost equal to the area of Europe (excluding Russia), one- third of Canada, one-fifth of Russia, eight times of Japan and twelve times of the United Kingdom. ● India has roughly a quadrangular shape. It measures about 3,214 km from north to south and about 2933 km from east to west, the difference between the two is just 281km. -
