Being one of 13 officially certified Energy Agencies of the Province of Styria, the Energy Agency W.E.I.Z offers the following independent energy services for private households, companies and public institutions/local communities:
• Issuing of Energy Certificates for new buildings, existing buildings, housing and business premises

• (Plus) Energy Consulting which gives orientation and helps with decisions regarding funding, energy costs and energy efficiency, new construction & refurbishment and renewable energy sources

WEIZconnected – intelligent electrical energy exchange between buildings to make best use of the energy and Supply Reliability
Modern buildings produce electrical energy for their self-supply using photovoltaic systems. However, it is not easy to keep the balance between the generation and the consumption of electrical power. The pilot project in the Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z. included an energy storage system and a PV- system. Thus the electrical energy generated during the day can be stored and used in times with insufficient power generation. In addition, there are direct power cables which allow the electrical exchange with other buildings. The model system of the project WEIZconnected has been promoted by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG and was installed successfully based on the prevailing technical, economic and legal conditions. After the trial installation of an energy management system with power storage, which has been developed especially, the self-supply rate could be increased, from 25 % to 80 %. Any electrical power exceeding the self-supply requirements can be sold to other consumers during the peak generating periods (in this project, the building W.E.I.Z.2 sells its excess electricity to the building W.E.I.Z.1). In cooperation with the Municipality of Weiz, the district heating provider Weiz and the company EOS (tenant in the Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z.), this energy storage system in the Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z. was additionally equipped with a blackout-resistant energy storage system. The blackout-resistant PV system can, via isolated operation, generate electrical power and supply the most important devices with power. This system reduces the electricity costs by using the PV power in a more efficient way and also provides emergency power in case of power failure. This is a future model relevant for companies, public institutions and also for private households which intend to convert their existing PV systems into blackout-resistant systems.

WoodC.A.R. – Computer Aided Research
If processed the right way, wood becomes a high-technology product. The four-year research project „WoodC.A.R.“ where the natural raw material meets automotive engineering, illustrates this well. The result are vehicle parts made from wood. This interdisciplinary approach unites two strong, local economic sectors which, on first sight, do not have a lot in common: Companies such as Magna Steyr, MAN Truck & Bus and the local parquet floor specialist Weitzer Parkett research and work together on this project, with scientists and partners from the Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z. (Consortium Leadership). First, the components, such as an instrument panel, underbody and backrest for the concept car CULT, were developed in the course of a feasibility study and have then been resilience-tested. The material is calculated digitally, designed on the computer, simulated and only then produced. The advantage of this approach is that the products of the theoretical project can be used faster in real production.
17 partners from science and industry participate in the K-project „WoodC.A.R.“ which is promoted by bmwfw, bmvit, the Province of Styria and of Tyrol, among them the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, the Technical University of Graz, The Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, FH Joanneum and the VIRTUAL VEHICLE Research Center.

Weiz.OnLine – high speed internet

On the Gbit highway The general bandwidths in Weiz and in most of Austria are between 4 and 50 Mbit/s. This makes no impression anymore on a high-end technological enterprise. Weiz.Online offers not only „Fiber Power“ but real FTTH (Fiber to the home) – this means glass fiber up to the company building, to the house, to the office or to your home. The glass fiber network in Weiz already comprises more than 100 km of conduits and over 1000 km of installed glass fiber cables. The Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z. is mainly responsible for the project „Weiz.Online“ in the Municipality of Weiz. The project comprises all works on level 1 (passive infrastructure). This level includes the structured expansion (Installation of empty conduits and all-in documentation) in the town area of Weiz, based on a master and business plan. At the same time, W.E.I.Z. Immobilien GmbH (Real Estate) acts as the supporting organisation for the structured glass fiber expansion within the Weiz District. Weiz.Online offers bandwidths of up to 5 Gbit/s (5.000 Mbit/s) and thus provides a clear local advantage for companies which plan to move to Weiz in future.
