In “: Mucho Mojo,” Hap and Leonard find themselves in mucho trouble as they unravel a murder mystery with more twists and turns than an East Texas highway. The story begins with a skeleton, Trudy’s missing ashes, a pissing match with a neighbourhood drug dealer and a piece of MeMaw’s fresh baked pie. When Leonard is arrested for a murder he didn’t commit, Hap and attorney Florida Grange must work to clear his name. The only things standing in their way are Hap’s unquenchable thirst for Florida, a serial killer, bad mojo and themselves. WHAT IS MOJO?

Hap Collins is a man looking for truth, justice, the American way, and just a little love to go with it. He isn’t having any luck. Somehow middle age has snuck up on him and he doesn’t have much to show for it. Good looks and East Texas charm don’t pay the bills.

A working class, liberal romantic, Hap has one foot in the past and the other trying to find traction in a world he doesn’t much understand. He’s old school but graduation was a long time ago. Hap may not be the slickest cowboy around, but it’s his sense of right and wrong and his black hat / white hat belief system that keeps him kicking for the underdog. Hell, he’s an underdog himself. With his dry cowboy humour and his bulldog tenacity, Hap fights a never-ending battle against injustice. JAMES PUREFOY

James Purefoy is best known for playing Joe Carroll on Fox’s “The Following” and Mark Antony in the award-winning HBO series “Rome.” He is about to begin production on the series “,” opposite . Earlier this year he also starred in History Channel’s “Roots.” Other television credits include “Revenge,” “The Philanthropist,” the cable series “Camelot” as well as Britain’s “The Hollow Crown: Richard II,” directed by Rupert Goold, and “Injustice.”

Purefoy was most recently seen in Sony Pictures Classics’ Equity opposite . Other recent film credits include High-Rise (2015) the feature adaptation of the classic J. G. Ballard novel by Amy Jump, opposite and ; Stephen Campanelli’s action thriller Momentum (2015), opposite Olga Kurylenko; Wicked Blood (2014), directed by Mark Young, opposite Sean Bean and Abigail Breslin; John Carter (2012) with Taylor Kitsch and ; Ironclad (2011) with and ; and Solomon Kane (2010) with .

His most prominent film roles include Spence in Resident Evil (2002), Rawdon Crawley in Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair (2004), opposite , and the Black in A Knight’s Tale (2001), alongside .

He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in his final year at the Central School of Speech and Drama and spent six years in lead roles in theatre. He also starred in at the Haymarket Theatre, opposite Sienna Miller.

Leonard Pine is a walking, sass-talking contradiction. He’s a black Republican who happens to be gay. He’s a man who wouldn’t join any club that would have him as a member. Violence is always an option when Leonard’s around. Fast to anger and ready to back it up, he isn’t a man to take lightly or get on the wrong side of. He’s a black East Texas cowboy with an attitude – a bad one. He won’t just beat up, he’ll piss on you when he’s done.

MICHAEL KENNETH WILLIAMS

Michael Kenneth Williams is one of this generation’s most respected and acclaimed . By bringing complicated and charismatic characters to life – often with surprising tenderness – Williams has established himself as a gifted and versatile performer with a unique ability to mesmerise audiences.

Williams is best known for his remarkable work on “The Wire” which ran for five seasons on HBO. The wit and humour that Williams brought to Omar – the whistle- happy, profanity-averse, drug dealer-robbing stickup man – earned him high praise and made Omar one of television’s most memorable characters.

Williams co-starred in HBO’s critically acclaimed series “” which premiered in 2010. In the - and Terence Winter-produced show, Williams played Chalky White, a 1920s bootlegger and impeccably suited veritable mayor of Atlantic City’s African-American community. In 2012, “Boardwalk Empire” won a Award® for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

He was recently seen playing the role of Freddy in the acclaimed HBO limited series “The Night Of,” opposite and John Turturro; the series was written by Richard Price and Steve Zaillian, who also directed the episodes. Williams recently wrapped the ABC limited series “When We Rise” from and , set to air in February 2017. The series dives deep into the LGBT and Civil Rights movements that have taken place over the past few decades in . In a turn from his more serious roles, Williams starred in the IFC comedy mini-series “The Spoils Before Dying” alongside , and . “I ain’t no murderer. And I ain’t your boy.”

Williams was recently seen in the Paul Feig-directed reboot opposite Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and , and in New Regency’s Assassin’s Creed, based on the popular video game, opposite Michael Fassbender and and directed by Justin Kurzel.

Giving back to the community plays an important role in Williams’s off-camera life. He is working to launch Making Kids Win, a charitable organisation whose primary objective is to build community centres in urban neighbourhoods that are in need of safe spaces for children to learn and play. Michael currently serves as the ACLU’s ambassador of Smart Justice.

Williams also executive produces and serves as the investigative journalist for Black Market, a documentary program that exposes and comments on illegal markets throughout the world with a focus on the people involved and connecting with them on a human level. Black Market is a flagship show for Vice’s newly launched network .

Detective Marvin Hanson is a good-looking, smart cop who despite being black has climbed the ranks in a Southern police force. He’s quietly ambitious and eager to get ahead. Hard-nosed and suspicious of everyone until they prove him wrong, he keeps his cards close to his vest and always has one eye on the politics of his position.

CRANSTON JOHNSON

Cranston Johnson burst into acting for numerous and television projects after training in method acting. His first SAG role came when cast as Shawn Griffin in the Jerry Rees-directed film Susie’s Hope as well as the -directed film starring , Tyler Perry, Wendy McLendon-Covey and .

Johnson’s television credits include a recurring role on the critically acclaimed comedy “” starring Donald Glover. He has also had appearances on “Secrets and Lies,” “Constantine,” “Game of Silence,” “Survivor’s Remorse” and “Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell” – all in a two-year span.

Other film credits includeFor the Love of Ruth, A Way Back and Term Life, starring Vince Vaughn, and Hailee Steinfeld. Johnson’s passion for the craft and his commitment to excellence were celebrated when he was awarded Best Actor in a Short Film at the Rahway International Film Festival in 2015 for his work on the gripping A Letter to My Son. The short film was selected to over 20 film festivals, highlighted by the RiverRun International Film Festival, one of the premier film festivals in the Southeast.

Johnson continues to study method acting in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Sheriff Valentine Otis is the king of his world, a white man with authority, and the law behind him, overseeing a black community. Valentine sees himself as one of the “untouchables.” Wealthy and powerful, he bends the law to his liking and sits on his throne with one hand in someone’s pocket and the other polishing his badge. He doesn’t like his adult son and treads dangerous waters by loving a woman he shouldn’t. Underneath his hard-boiled exterior is an aging man trying to maintain his power and keep the door closed on the skeletons in his closet before they decide to take a walk in public.

Brian Dennehy is an award-winning actor of film, stage and television. He has won a Golden Globe® and two Tony® Awards and earned six Primetime Emmy® Award nominations. “There are two types of people living in this town: those who couldn’t get out and those who didn’t.”

MeMaw is her neighbourhood’s elder matriarch. She’s the keeper of the flame of the past. Though the modern world around her doesn’t please her, with the drugs and violence always getting worse, MeMaw keeps her faith and prays for better times. And she makes a mean pie – just ask Leonard.

IRMA P. HALL

Irma P. Hall’s television career launched with her appearance in several episodes of “Dallas” as Tilly, the housekeeper. Two TV movies followed, as well as a small role in the telefilm,Skyward , directed by , Crisis At Central High, and Broken Promise. Ms Hall also loved performing on stage at various Dallas theatres.

Finally, after 27 years of teaching, she quit to pursue acting full time. In the late , Hall moved back to where she performed on stage at the Chicago Theatre Company, the Court Theatre, Goodman Theatre and with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. At the same time she was appearing in Chicago-themed movies such as Backdraft, starring Kurt Russell and directed by Ron Howard, and Straight Talk, starring Dolly Parton and . “ I got fresh coffee and biscuits for them police too. One bite they forget why they here.”

PAGE 11 In 1996, Irma won the Chicago Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as tough but lovable Aunt T in the filmA Family Thing starring and . In 1998 she won an NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work as Big Momma in the feature filmSoul Food, and was again nominated for an Image Award in 2001 when she reprised her role in the Showtime series based on the film.

Since then, she has appeared in Bad Company, Don’t Let Go, Our America, Patch Adams, Beloved, Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil, Steel, Buddy, A Lesson Before Dying, Babe and The Long Hot Summer, to name a few. She won the coveted Special Jury Award at the 2004 for that performance, where Quentin Tarintino called her “a force of nature.” The other 2004 films were A Slipping Down Life with Guy Pierce and , and Collateral, starring and in an Academy Award nominated performance. Ms. Hall received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Actress for The Ladykillers, as well as the Movie Guide Awards. She was presented as a Black History Maker by the DuSable Museum in Chicago, and was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in Austin, Texas where she was introduced by Ethan and Joel Coen, the directors of The Ladykillers.

The Reverend James Fitzgerald is MeMaw’s grandson. He’s the local Reverend who runs the New Hope Church. In his late thirties, Fitzgerald is a religious zealot, always looking to convert and hold the Lord over someone. A talented amateur boxer, he teaches the neighbourhood children the manly art when he isn’t beating them over the head with . He, too, harbours a dark secret.

DOHN NORWOOD

After receiving his bachelor of arts degree from prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta, Norwood went on to earn his M.F.A. from the University of , , during which time he to travelled to Dakar, Senegal, to perform a one-man show centred on his childhood growing up in the inner city of Indianapolis. His introduction to L.A.’s performing arts world was as Romeo in the 2001 Ahmanson Theatre production of directed by Sir Peter Hall.

Dohn Norwood’s film credits includeAll the Way, starring , Melissa Leo, and Anthony Mackie; Mini’s First Time, starring Alec Baldwin and Carrie-Anne Moss; and Bruce Almighty, starring and Morgan Freeman. Television credits include “Entourage,” “Hell on Wheels,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “NCIS,” “Bones,” “Castle,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Law & Order: Los Angeles,” “Harry’s Law,” “ER,” “Southland” and “The Closer.” Norwood will soon be appearing regularly in the USA series “The Sinner” opposite Jessica Biel.

County Judge Beau Otis is Valentine’s grown son. Middle- aged, slothful and powerful due to Daddy’s position, Beau is a man who never pays. He floats through life, riding the comfort of his father’s power and his elite position. But as Daddy ages, Beau is realising that one day the gravy train gets to the station. He’s a man who hasn’t earned anything he owns. And he has one hell of a skeleton in his own closet to worry about.

JOHN “SPUD” MCCONNELL

John “Spud” McConnell has been a professional actor, performer and voice talent for over 40 years. McConnell has been onstage and backstage, as well as on camera in film, documentaries, industrials, and dramas. He has national and international acting and voice credits. He’s had recurring roles in five network TV series, including “Roseanne” and, most recently, “Underground.” McConnell has been acting in film and television since 1988, and has appeared in over 70 films and TV shows. He’s produced and hosted his own radio talk show for 10 years.

McConnell began his professional career as a stand-up comedian and improv performer in college at Nicholls State University. He continued doing stand-up and sketches in LSU and became the house emcee for The Grin Room comedy club in Baton Rouge, where he worked for 16 months before “hitting the road” as a touring comic. McConnell gave up comedy touring for stage touring, starring in The Kingfish, a one-man play about Louisiana Governor and Senator Huey P. Long. The show toured Louisiana and Texas, eventually arriving Off Broadway. Twenty-seven years later, McConnell still performs regularly in The Kingfish, and as Huey’s brother Earl in Earl Long in Purgatory, another one-man tour de force about Louisiana politics.

McConnell is also a founding member of Swine Palace, Baton Rouge’s premier professional repertory theatre company. It was there that he starred as Ignatius J. Reilly in a stage-adapted version of A Confederacy of Dunces, the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and quintessential study of New Orleans’ characters. His performance and the character have been immortalised in a life-sized bronze statue on Canal Street, under the clock in front of the old D. H. Holmes department store between Bourbon and Dauphine. “ Thank you for your vote next month.”

TJ is a mentally disabled man-child. He lives with MeMaw, his grandmother. A regular churchgoer, TJ is in awe of his older brother, the Reverend Fitzgerald. TJ paints ceramic angels, helps MeMaw around the house, and ends up playing a surprising role in Hap and Leonard’s investigation.

KELVIN BROWN

Kelvin Brown is an actor/musician who was born in St. Louis, MO and raised in Kansas City. At the age of seven, his parents discovered his admiration for entertainment when he was cast lead in his grade school musical. He soon went on to perform in various plays in high school while performing around town with his local band. In college (Missouri State University), after completing his double major in music and theatre, he received an opportunity to work as a production assistant in the Los Angeles area for popular TV shows and films on the Paramount lot. Within several months, Kelvin made his television debut performing on the popular teen show “Moesha.”

He then soon made an appearance in the classic comedy filmTwo Can Play That Game opposite Vivica Fox. While performing at an open mic night in Hollywood, an agent approached him about representing him for commercials. In a very short time he went on to be featured in more than thirty nationally televised commercials. This showcased his comedic talents, which lead to guest-starring roles on “Brooklyn Nine Nine,” “My Name Is Earl” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” Kelvin Brown has also showcased his dramatic acting skills with guest stints on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Cold Case” and “Lie to Me.”

John Wirth has written and produced hundreds of hours of television and continues to be one of Hollywood’s most sought-after television showrunners. He is currently serving as executive producer/showrunner on AMC’s “Hap and Leonard.” He has served as an executive producer on “Hell on Wheels,” “The Cape,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Love Monkey,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “The District” and “.”

He has worked as a consulting producer on “Falling Skies” and on “V” and as a supervising producer on the award-winning “Picket Fences” and the cult favourite “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.” He also worked as an executive story editor on “Remington Steele.”

In addition, Wirth has held development deals with Touchstone Television, 20th Century Fox Television, Sony Television, Grant Tinker Television and Warner Bros. Television, producing pilots for all four major networks, USA, The CW and A&E.

Wirth conceived and co-edited the WGA’s Television Writer’s Handbook, and sits on the Showrunner Training Program Committee as well as the WGA’s Television Writers Council.

He has been honoured with three Heritage Awards, an Environmental Media Award, an Angel Award and the 2004 Ribbon of Hope Award for AIDS Awareness and Education.

JIM MICKLE Executive Producer / Writer

Jim Mickle first earned acclaim for his 2006 debut feature, Mulberry St. He experienced breakout success with , which won the Midnight Madness award at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and was distributed theatrically by IFC Films in 2011.

Mickle’s We Are What We Are, a remake of the Mexican cult cannibal film, starring Ambyr Childers, , Bill Sage, Michael Parks and Wyatt Russell, premiered in the Midnight Section of the 2013 . The film had its European premiere in the prestigious Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a five-minute standing ovation. The film had its U.S. theatrical release later that year.

Just one year later, Mickle further established himself as one of the most interesting genre directors of his generation when his filmCold in July premiered to critical acclaim at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in the Dramatic Competition. Starring Michael C. Hall alongside Sam Shepard, , Vinessa Shaw and Wyatt Russell, the film sold to IFC Films in a seven-figure deal. Paralleling his previous project, the film had its European premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, making Mickle the first director to have films in both Sundance and Cannes in consecutive years. The film was released theatrically and on VOD in late 2014.

Mickle turned to television in 2015 with “Hap and Leonard” based on the Joe R. Lansdale book series. In addition to co-creating the show, Mickle served as director, co-writer and executive producer.

He is currently developing several studio films in addition to his television endeavours.

Mickle is an alumnus of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Actor and writer Nick Damici is the co-creator of the hit series “Hap and Leonard” which is adapted from the book series of the same name written by Joe R. Lansdale. Having premiered to rave reviews, it is now in its second season.

Damici’s first collaboration with Lansdale and Jim Mickle was the feature filmCold In July, which starred Michael C. Hall, Vinessa Shaw, Don Johnson and Sam Shepard and premiered to rave reviews, and was followed by a prominent sale as part of the dramatic feature competition at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014. Damici wrote the screenplay for We Are What We Are, which premiered at Sundance a year earlier, in 2013, and was sold to eOne.

Damici wrote the screenplay for and stars in the recently aired feature Stakelander for the Channel, a much anticipated sequel to his zombie-action-horror feature, Stake Land. He co-wrote the indie feature Bushwick.

As an actor, Damici is known for his leading role opposite and Meg Ryan in ’s In the Cut, as well as for his leading role in Mulberry St and, most recently, for Man with Van, starring opposite Morgan Spector. Recent noteworthy features include Adrián García Bogliano’s film Late Phases, after which IndieWire pegged Damici as one of the “10 Actors to Watch Out For at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival”; a leading role in Eli Morgan Gesner’s film Condemned; and supporting roles in ’s World Trade Center and ’s Premium Rush.

Televison credits include recurring roles on both “CSI: NY” and “The Black Donnellys” and guest-starring roles on “Life on Mars” and “Law & Order.”

Linda Moran has a long history of collaboration with Jim Mickle. In addition to the first season of “Hap and Leonard,” she has produced all of Mickle’s feature films, beginning with Mulberry St, which was acquired by Lionsgate in 2006. Stake Land premiered during the 2010 Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness, where it won the Audience Award. Both We Are What We Are and Cold in July premiered at Sundance and went on to screen in the Directors’ Fortnight section at Cannes, marking the first time that a filmmaker had films at Sundance and Cannes in consecutive years.

Linda Moran’s career began in the music industry. After graduating from , she embarked on a career as a singer, doing concert and recording work for artists including Mick Jagger.

As a , Moran is a two-time Independent Spirit Award nominee, for L.I.E. and Transamerica, and has won the prestigious Motorola Producer of the Year Award, along with René Bastian, her partner at their New York-based company Belladonna Productions. They were named among “10 Producers to Watch” by Variety.

L.I.E., one of her first producing projects, premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, screened at New Directors/New Films and received seven Independent Spirit Award nominations, as well as a Gotham Award Open Palm nomination. For Transamerica, directed by Duncan Tucker, Felicity Huffman’s leading performance was recognised with a Golden Globe® Award as well as Screen Actors Guild® and Academy Award® nominations. Dolly Parton’s song from the film, Travelin’ Thru, also earned Golden Globe®, Academy Award® and Grammy® nominations.

Other titles that Moran has co-produced include A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, directed and written by Dito Montiel. The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr., , Chazz Palminteri, , Shia LaBeouf and , premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Directing Award for Drama and the Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble Performance. Moran also co-produced ’s Funny Games, distributed by Warner Independent Pictures and starring , Tim Roth, and Brady Corbet.
