Bench Press In addition, parish councillors have incorporated into the Anchorage Lane Playing Field scheme improvements to the path surface at Newlands Park to make them more accessible and to combat the effects of flooding during the winter months.

The exercise equipment and trails are expected to be up and running by late Spring this year.

Parish Chair, Coun Pat Haith, said: “Although we are operating in a tough economic climate, we still want to develop a range of recreational facilities that are suitable to all sections of our community.

Our last major project, the Adventure Playground on the New Lane playing field, has been a great success and we expect the Newlands Park/Anchorage Lane scheme to be well used and very popular. The new circular trail at Newlands Park will be just over one kilometre long and linked by a quarter of a kilometre “People today are living very busy and often stressful lives path along Anchorage Lane to another circular trail on the and it is a proven fact that we can all benefit from having a Anchorage Lane playing field that will be nearly three quarters healthier lifestyle that includes easy access to regular exercise of a kilometre in length. and fresh air close to where we live.”

UNFOUNDED THE parish council has been quick to quash rumours that the new exercise trails and outdoor gym will lead to the closure of existing play equipment on the Anchorage Lane playing field. A Letter has been sent to residents living close to the site confirming that the rumours are “completely and utterly unfounded”. The letter goes on to say that the parish council remains committed to maintaining existing facilities and , as funds become available, improving those amenities as part of the on-going programme of maintenance and development. Changes to Local Policing Arrangements Police are launching a new policing system to meet the challenges caused by reducing budgets. Currently, two teams provide uniformed policing: l Response teams, providing 24-hour cover l Safer neighbourhood police offcers and PCSOs (Police Community Support Offcers) Under new plans, the two teams will be combined into single Local Policing Teams (LPTs) to make substantial savings in supervisory and other costs whilst maintaining the commitment to neighbourhood policing. The new LPTs will have responsibility for solving local community problems and managing local demand. Most staff will start their shifts at LPT bases in Doncaster where they will be briefed together, saving duplication. Police chiefs say the public will continue to see some offcers and all PCSOs on a regular basis as they always have done. However, all police offcers in the team will be more visible in neighbourhoods, not least because they will have mobile computers that enable them to work in the communities they serve for longer, irrespective of where they are based. In addition, LPT offcers and PCSOs will receive assistance from a Local Support Hub that will specialise in the proactive investigation of crime, anti-social behaviour problem solving, children and schools related matters and offender management. Specifc details about the new model were still being agreed as Sprotbrough & Cusworth Parish News went to press. But offcers will be on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week across the LPTs. Offcers, wherever practicable, will be allocated to the car beat covering their designated area and will have responsibility for overseeing repeat and other vulnerable victim cases within their area. PCSOs will continue to serve beat areas within LPTs, providing a consistent presence for local people. LPTs will be encouraged to take ownership of all issues that arise in their areas and to manage their resolution, such as dealing with nuisance behaviour while it is happening rather than after the event.
