DI Women’s Track & Field Scholar Athletes of the Year & All Academic Individuals Announced Courtesy: Tyler Mayforth, USTFCCCA July 28, 2016 Follow NEW ORLEANS — Molly Seidel of Notre Dame, Courtney Frerichs of New Mexico and Lexi Weeks of Arkansas have been named the Female Scholar Athletes of the Year in NCAA Division I Track & Field for the 201516 season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. Combining their accomplishments in the classroom and in competition during the recently WOMEN’S SCHOLAR ATHLETE completed academic year, these three women were the most exceptional among a group of AWARD HISTORY 910 women who earned USTFCCCA AllAcademic honors. Indoor Track 2016: Molly Seidel, Notre Dame 2015: Emily Sisson, Providence QUICK LINKS: USTFCCCA Division I AllAcademic Team 2014: Abbey D’Agostino, Dartmouth 2013: Abbey D’Agostino, Dartmouth Scholar Athletes of the Year were selected as the highest finishing performers at the NCAA 2012: Deborah Maier, California 2011: Jordan Hasay, Oregon Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships who achieved AllAcademic 2010: Phoebe Wright, Tennessee status. Those who won individual championship titles ranked higher in the tiebreaking 2009: Sarah Bowman, Tennessee 2008: Sarah Bowman, Tennessee process and cumulative GPA is weighed as the final tiebreaker. Weeks had Indoor Track & Field a freshman year to remember as she swept the indoor and outdoor pole vault titles with 2007: Sarah Stevens, Arizona State jumps of 4.63m (152¼) and 4.50m (149), respectively. Outdoor Track 2016: Courtney Frerichs, New Mexico Seidel, a senior majoring in Anthropology with a supplementary major in Arts & Letters Pre 2015: Colleen Quigley, Florida State 2014: Laura Roesler, Oregon Health, had a cumulative GPA of 3.545. The Hartland, Wisconsin native is the first female 2013: Abbey D’Agostino, Dartmouth athlete from Notre Dame to be named Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year. Seidel was 2012: Abbey D’Agostino, Dartmouth 2011: Sheila Reid, Villanova a double winner at the NCAA Indoor meet, capturing titles at 3000 meters (8:57.86, a near 2010: Lisa Koll, Iowa State sevensecond win) and 5000 meters (15:15.21, a near eightsecond win). 2009: Jenny Barringer, Colorado 2008: Lisa Koll, Iowa State Frerichs, a senior from Nixa, Missouri, earned a cumulative GPA of 3.85 on a 4.0 scale. Her Outdoor Field 2016: Lexi Weeks, Arkansas actual GPA is 4.17 on a 4.3 scale. Frerichs only had one season of track eligibility left and 2015: Keturah Orji, Georgia turned in a magical season in which she broke the collegiate steeplechase record with her 2014: Julia Ratcliffe, Princeton 2013: Bethany Buell, South Dakota time of 9:24.41 and won the NCAA title. 2012: Brittany Borman, Oklahoma 2011: Trecey Rew, Northwestern State AllAcademic Individuals 2010: Evelien Dekkers, Florida 2009: Kim Williams, Florida State 2008: Sarah Stevens, Arizona State Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 910 women from 192 institutions Outdoor Track & Field earned USTFCCCA AllAcademic honors during the 201516 track & field season. 2007: Michelle Sikes, Wake Forest To qualify for the USTFCCCA AllAcademic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a studentathlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a studentathlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds). Minnesota and Stanford finished tied with the most individuals named USTFCCCA AllAcademic with 23.
