Pink Tulip Project

This October 30,000 pink tulips will be planted in public, private and commercial gardens throughout Maine. Each garden has been sponsored by individuals, businesses and groups. Bulbs, whose original cost is covered by grants and individual donations, are shipped to each location in the fall for planting. Funds raised through the project will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund. In 2006, the inaugural year of the project, $18,000 was raised. In 2007 we are well on our way to exceed that total! Malone Commercial Brokers foursome at 10th Annual Golf Classic Each garden has established a fund raising goal and set out to reach that goal by soliciting friends and community members. Lincoln Park near the courthouse in Portland has been adopted by “The Ladies in the Law” who wish to plant 400 bulbs and raise $10,000. They have reached out to women in every aspect of the law from lawyers to crossing guards to join in their efforts. Several medical sites joined the campaign, dedicating gardens to promote awareness and inspire hope while honoring all who have battled breast cancer. Memorial gardens, as well as gardens named in honor of women and men currently in treatment, have been planted throughout Maine. The park Showers don't dampen these hikers enthsiasm at Hike the River for a cure departments of Bangor, Cumberland, Lewiston, Portland, and York have offered public garden space to the project.
