Only a win will do for Internazionale on Matchday 6 as Shakhtar Donetsk come to San Siro with Group B finely poised ahead of the final round of games. • Inter picked up their first win in this season's UEFA Champions League last time out, 3-2 at Borrusia Mönchengladbach, but are still fourth in the section on five points. Shakhtar and Real Madrid, who were beaten in Ukraine on Matchday 5, have seven points each, one behind Mönchengladbach. • Inter must beat Shakhtar to reach the round of 16. However, they will finish third if they win and Real Madrid and Mönchengladbach draw Group B's other final fixture. A draw or defeat will leave the Nerazzurri in fourth place and out of Europe. • Shakhtar, playing their 100th UEFA Champions League match, group stage to final, will go through with a victory – as group winners unless Mönchengladbach win in Madrid. A draw will only be enough for Shakhtar to claim second place if Madrid do not beat Gladbach. A defeat will relegate the Ukrainian side to fourth place unless Gladbach win in Madrid, in which case Shakhtar would finish third. • The sides' Matchday 2 meeting in Kyiv ended goalless. Previous meetings • Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martínez both scored twice in Inter's 5-0 win against Shakhtar in last season's UEFA Europa League semi-final, Danilo D'Ambrosio getting the other at the Düsseldorf Arena. • That was the clubs' third meeting in UEFA competition, Inter having beaten Shakhtar 3-1 on aggregate in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round when a 1-1 draw in Milan was followed by a 2-0 win in Donetsk. Shakhtar's coach at the time was Mircea Lucescu, formerly of Inter. Form guide Inter • Antonio Conte's side took two points from their first four fixtures, supplementing a 2-2 draw at home to Mönchengladbach in which Lukaku scored twice, including a 90th-minute equaliser, with that stalemate at Shakhtar, but then lost 3-2 away and 2-0 at home to Madrid. Failure to win at Mönchengladbach on Matchday 5 would have confirmed Inter in fourth place, but instead Lukaku's second-half double inspired a 3-2 success that kept their hopes alive. • Second in Serie A in 2019/20, a point behind champions Juventus, Inter are the last Italian team to win the UEFA Champions League, in 2010 – their third European Cup triumph, and first in 45 years. • This is the 14th time Inter have been in the group stage and the third season in a row having missed out for six consecutive years between 2011/12 and 2018/19. • Conte's charges finished third in their section last season, behind Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, after losing 2-1 at home to the Spanish side on Matchday 6. They picked up seven points from their six games. • The Nerazzurri moved into the UEFA Europa League, beating Ludogorets 4-1 on aggregate in the round of 32 before wins in one-off ties on German soil against Getafe (2-0), Bayer Leverkusen (2-1) and Shakhtar took them into the final. Inter came up short at the last, however, going down 3-2 against Sevilla in the Cologne decider. • The Matchday 5 win at Mönchengladbach was only Inter's third in their last 15 UEFA Champions League matches (D5 L7). • A 2-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 3 last season is Inter's sole success in their last seven home UEFA Champions League games (D4 L2). • The Milan club's last two UEFA Champions League campaigns have ended in the group stage, Inter finishing third in their section both last season and in 2018/19 – the first time in nine campaigns they had failed to progress. • Inter are undefeated in their ten UEFA encounters against Ukrainian sides (W6 D4), and had won four in a row before drawing at Shakhtar this season. At home their record is W2 D2, the most recent contest a 2-1 defeat of Dnipro in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League group stage. Shakhtar • Six of the Pitmen's seven points, and all their goals, have come against Madrid, who they beat 3-2 away and, last time out, 2-0 at home. Aside from the stalemate at home against Inter, Shakhtar went down 6-0 against Mönchengladbach in Kyiv, their record home loss in UEFA club competition, and 4-0 in Germany, ending their six- match unbeaten away run in Europe (W3 D3). • Shakhtar qualified as winners of the Ukrainian league, claiming the title for the 13th time – and fourth in a row – in

5 FC Internazionale Milano - FC Shakhtar Donetsk Wednesday 9 December 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Stadio San Siro, Milan 2019/20. • UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists in 2010/11, Shakhtar are in the group stage for the 15th time and have progressed no further on ten of the previous 14 occasions, including the last two. • Shakhtar finished third in their section in 2019/20, a 3-0 Matchday 6 defeat at home to Atalanta sending them into the UEFA Europa League. The Donetsk outfit picked up six points in last season's group stage to finish behind Manchester City and the Italian club. • Luís Castro's side went on to beat Benfica (2-1 h, 3-3 a) and Wolfsburg (2-1 a, 3-0 h) over two legs in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 and 16 respectively before defeating Basel 4-1 in a one-off quarter-final in Gelsenkirchen, but Inter proved too strong in their semi-final. • Despite this season's victories against Madrid, Shakhtar have won only four of their last 18 UEFA Champions League matches (D7 L7). • The Pitmen were 2-1 winners against Atalanta at San Siro on Matchday 2 last season thanks to Manor Solomon's added-time strike – only their second victory in their 12 games in Italy (D2 L8). Home and away, that is Shakhtar's sole victory in their last five matches against Italian clubs (D1 L3). Links and trivia • Although Lukaku scored in both of Everton's games against Dynamo Kyiv in the 2014/15 round of 16, his club lost the tie to their Ukrainian opponents 6-4 on aggregate. • Shakhtar's Taison scored against Napoli in a 2-1 win in Kharkiv on Matchday 1 of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League. • Nicolò Barella made his international debut for Italy in a 1-1 friendly draw against Ukraine in Genoa on 10 October 2018. Andriy Pyatov, Mykola Matviyenko, Marlos, Yevhen Konoplyanka and substitutes Taras Stepanenko and Serhiy Kryvtsov all played for the visitors. • Inter's Ashley Young was in the England side that knocked Ukraine out of UEFA EURO 2012 with a 1-0 win in Donetsk in the final group game. Pyatov and Konoplyanka were starters for the defeated co-hosts. • Konoplyanka scored for Ukraine against Milan Škriniar's Slovakia in a UEFA Nations League game on 16 November 2018, although Slovakia still won 4-1. • Konoplyanka was also on target in Ukraine's 2-1 friendly win against Škriniar and Slovakia in November 2017. Latest news Inter • Inter made it three successive wins for the first time this season on Saturday, and the first time since they won three straight UEFA Europa League matches in August, with a 3-1 home victory against Bologna. • Antonio Conte's side have scored three times in each of their last three matches. • Achraf Hakimi scored twice against Bologna, his first double in a game since his two goals in Borussia Dortmund's win against Inter on Matchday 4 of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League. • Before a 3-0 Serie A victory at Sassuolo on 28 November, Inter had won only one of six games in all competitions (D3 L2) – a 4-2 win at home to Torino on 22 November, a game in which they had trailed 2-0. Despite their current three-match run of victories, Inter have still won only seven of their 15 fixtures this season (D5 L3). • The win at Sassuolo was only Inter's third clean sheet this season. • Inter have conceded at least two goals in five of their last eight games in all competitions. • Aleksandar Kolarov and Daniele Padelli have been sidelined by illness, although the latter was an unused substitute on Saturday. • Radja Nainggolan has missed Inter's last two games with a calf injury. • Stefano Sensi came on as a substitute against Madrid on Matchday 4 having been out since 7 October due to a thigh injury. • On 15 November, substitute Andrea Pinamonti scored in a 4-0 win against Luxembourg that secured Italy's place at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, although he subsequently twisted his ankle and has not played since. • Milan Škriniar's own goal did not prevent Slovakia claiming a 2-1 extra-time win away to Northern Ireland in their UEFA EURO 2020 play-off final on 12 November. • Alessandro Bastoni made his Italy debut in a 4-0 friendly win against Estonia on 11 November.
