Step 1 Download and install a QR code app on your smartphone if you don't yet have one. Open your App Store, Market, Marketplace or App World application (for the iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry platforms, respectively).

Major Reduction Sale of Beef Shorthorn Breeding Cattle from the Renowned Lowther Herd An on-farm sale for Charles Lowther of 45 pedigree and grade-register Beef Shorthorn cows, calved & in-calf heifers & maiden heifers with 23 calves at foot
The Lowther herd needs no introduction with its tremendous record of show and sale successes based on an innovative breeding policy embracing the best of home and overseas genetics.
Animals from all the herd`s famous cow families are represented in the sale which is a major reduction due to a change of focus for Charles. In the sale is the mother of the senior bull being shown at this year`s Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire Shows as well as the sister of the 2015 Great Yorkshire Junior Champion.
The Lowther herd has, of course, enjoyed many successes at the national shows over the last decade with regular class wins at both the Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire. In 2015 Lowther Gervase was Overall Supreme Champion at the February Stirling Bull Sales following on Lowther Eclipse who was Senior Bull Champion at the February Stirling Bull Sales 2013. As well as this the herd has enjoyed many successes at the Stirling Autumn Sale and the Carlisle Spring Sale, taking eight female championships between these two premier events.
This sale is a wonderful opportunity for herds old and new to tap into the results of this policy. Bulls that the cows and heifers are in calf to include Lowther Konan, the highest muscle score Zetor bull on the index as well as the new herd purchase, Chapelton Kipling.
The fundamental breeding principals of the herd have always been to concentrate on good feet, udders, spring of rib and temperament whilst developing muscle mass, growth and ease of fleshing.

Established in 2002 and grazed on upland pastures above the valley of the Tees, the traditional home of the Beef Shorthorn breed, the Albion herd has won many show and sale prizes and championships which has amply justified the policy of breeding cow families of good type and conformation; deep, long bodied animals with good spring of rib. Locomotion and good udders have always been a priority together with strong maternal ability.
Some of the oldest cow families in the breed are represented, Jilt and Augusta from Upsall, Beauty and Rosebud from the nearby historic Gainford herd and Tanzy from Otterington, together with Waterloo and Sapphire and the North American Maryann from Alta Cedar.
Paul has always sought to use some of the best available genetics without being too extreme and without losing sight of the need to maintain and improve the best traits and characteristics of the Shorthorn breed.
Sires used over the years include Tarrant Arnie, Democrat of Upsall, Knowehead Hercules by Glenisla Dr Who, LS Driscoll, Glenbrae Grant and the Belmore Patriarch sired Grenadier of Upsall. The in-calf cows and heifers have all been running with Glenbrae Grant, a poll son of Chapelton Liberty with an EBV +54 for 600 day weight.
Health status is TB4, Johnes R1 and BVD and IBR accredited.
This Albion sale is quite simply a great opportunity to acquire some good Shorthorn cattle, many with impressive calves at foot. There are no elder cows offered as these have been moved on. The oldest cow in the dispersal is 2010 born. Several of the animals being offered were successfully exhibited at this year's Great Yorkshire Show and at other Summer events.

She is complemented by a very nice heifer calf indeed, already at seven months she is demonstrating the potential to be something special. She was shown in her own right at Cleveland Show where the judge placed her first in the heifer class, giving two years away to the other competitors. The judge's comment was "the best calf I have seen in a long, long time".
