24 Hours of Anime 05/14/21—05/15/21 (Discord) WELCOME TO UMBC ANIME SOCIETY’S “24 HOURS OF ANIME”!

Kick back, take a seat, grab some snacks, and relax while we bombard you with the best titles in anime as chosen by the members of the UMBC Anime Society! As the title of the event implies, we will be watchinganime non-stop for the next 24 hours! Every single officer will be present in some form for the whole event to facilitate the showings. Do not worry! YOU have no obligation to stay! If you feelworn out from all the fun, feel free to leave. You can also come back if you want! Since you’re readingthis that means you’ve shown up and that makes UAS’s day!

As this would make having fun for all who attend 24 Hours of Anime difficult: There is absolutely no heckling. Heckling is ANY disruptive vocal outburst or background noise from microphones turned on. Please keep your mics muted during showings! Otherwise, during our breaks, feel free to turn on your mic and chat with your fellow anime fans. You are welcome to use the #viewings channel in discord to make comments while watching as well.

Because two episodes are not perfectly 60 minutes, for the sake of filling in time, we will be having periodic breaks with AMVs, etc. and/or discussion. This is where you’re able to talk to other people in the call!

7:00 pm Hidamari Sketch (1-2) Ever since she was young, Yuno has always had an interest in art. Now that she has been accepted to Yamabuki Arts High School, it means one thing—moving out. Living in a dorm at Hidamari Apartments alone, Yuno meets her neighbors: the hyperactive Miyako, the self-conscious Hiro, and the mature Sae. Despite their different personalities, they go to the same school, spend time together, and develop a strong friendship. Yuno's life won't be so lonely after all! Hidamari Sketch revolves around the antics and day-to-day lives of the girls living at Hidamari Apartments. 8:00 pm Choose a Genre The “Choose a Genre” block consists of anime hand-picked and curated by the members of the MarathonCommittee. First, you choose a genre! This will be deter-mined by a simple majority vote. Then, you will be presented with two anime that fit into that genre, also by voting! Vote wisely, as two genres will remain unwatched by the end of theevent. 9:00 pm Viewers’ Choice (Movie Potential) This is the block for you! No really, this block is all about you. During a “Viewer’s Choice” block, we will survey the audience and select five people to propose an anime to watch. Once five titles have been selected, we take a vote and the winner is what we’ll watch for the next hour! There are plenty of Viewer’s Choice blocks throughoutthe event, so don’t worry if you don’t win. We believe in you! 10:00 pm Viewers’ Choice 11:00 pm Choose a Genre 12:00 am Vampire Knight (1-2) Yuki Cross is a first-year general education student at Cross Academy. As a member of the DisciplinaryCommittee, along with her childhood friend Zero Kiryu, her duty is to keep the infatuated Day Class students from chasing the beautiful Night Class students, all while performing the important task of protecting the secret of the NightClass. The secret…that all members of the Night Class are vampires!! 1:00 am Viewers’ Choice 2:00 am 86 (1-2) Vladilena Milizé is assigned to the Spearhead squadron to replace their previous Handler. Shunned by her peers for being a fellow Eighty-Six supporter, she continues to fight against their inhumane discrimination. Shinei Nouzen is the captain of the Spearhead squadron. Infamousfor being the sole survivor of every squadron he's been in, he insistson shouldering the names and wishes of his fallen comrades. 3:00 am Choose a Genre 4:00 am Viewers’ Choice 5:00 am Choose a Genre 6:00-7:00 am Viewer’s Choice (Movie Potential) 8:00 am Viewers’ Choice 9:00 am Kumo Desu Ga? Nani Ka? (4-5) The protagonist has managed to escape the threat of the Earth Dragon, and while she's alittle frustrated about being forced to run, she decides to continue her journey. But in the Great Elroe Labyrinth, monsters prey on each other where only the strongest survive! And that means a new threat is already around the corner. 10:00 am Choose a Genre (Movie Potential!) 11:00 am Choose a Genre 12:00 pm Promare (Movie) A terrorist group calling themselves Mad Burnish has been causing havoc all over the nation. After an encounter with Mad Burnish leader Lio Fotia, Galo sets out on his fated journey to find the truth about these mutants, ultimately leading him to question everything he previously held to be true. 2:00 pm Viewer’s Choice (Movie Potential!) 3:00 pm Viewers’ Choice 4:00 pm Choose a Genre 5:00 pm Viewers’ Choice 6:00 pm Yuyushiki (1-2) Yuzuko, Yui, and Yukari, three girls who just started high school in spring, are always together. Their day to day life is mostly uneventful, mainly only consisting of girls flirting, but for some reasonit's difficult to tear one's eyes away from this new generation of high school girls' communication. Hello anime fans,

This semester has been an interesting one, to say the least. For most of the people I have talked with (with one exception), this semester has been a very difficult and trying one—perhaps it’s fatigue from COVID lockdown? Regardless, we’re finally almost over the semester and about to start summer break! Things are looking very different where we stand now from where we were at the end of last semester. Vaccines are not only approvedbut now widely available. The CDC has just stated that vaccinated people can resume a more-or-less normal life. Things are opening up...but the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging throughout the world. Things are starting to look up, but we’re not out of the woods yet.

In the anime society this semester, we continued to hold our regular meetings on Discord. We enjoyed our scheduled viewings of Terror in Resonance, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Magi, and Yuru Camp. We also enjoyed repeated BYOA nominations of Charlotte and Kotoura-san, among others. I hope that the Anime Society has been able to provide respite from the stresses of this extremely stressful semester, and I hope that we’ll continue to be able to do so. By this time next year (and hopefully in the fall), we might be able to see each other in person again? Here’s hoping for a better and brighter future!
