Well, mark your calendars! Our 11th annual crab night is set for Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Saint Dominic's Marian Hall! The proceeds from our Crab Derby help offset the cost of repairs at our club and even more impor- tantly helps keep the beer cold! This is the only fundraiser we do to benefit our home and we are working hard to make this our best night ever. For the benefit of our newer members or for those of you who haven't attended one of our crab nights before, we feature all-you-can-eat crabs, beer, wine and soda as well as Hot Roast Beef, homemade salads and a sweet table. In addition, we present five live crab races that you can bet on (like the Night at the Races) as well as other games of chance for your entertainment. In order to make this night a success, we need your help and participation. Obviously, we'd like to have you come out and bring some friends. The cost of the tickets is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. This year, for the first time, we will have a special door prize for those people who purchased tickets in advance. For anyone who knows and enjoys crabs and beer, this is a deal that can't be beaten! We consistently get the biggest, meatiest and tastiest crabs available and we usually have two or three beers to choose from. The other way you can help participate is by helping to "sell" races. Similar to our Night at the Races, you can "buy" one of our racing crabs for $5 and name it whatever you please (within reason - we are a Catholic organization). If you're crab wins the race, you win $25! If you sell just ten crabs to friends, coworkers, family or neighbors you will know - and they will know - that one of them will be the winner. Selling races is a great way to build interest and generate buzz about the crab night and is an easy money-maker for us. In addition, if the race forms are returned by October 1st, their names and their crabs' names will appear in our racing program. A copy of the racing form is attached and we will have more available behind the bar and on meeting nights. Finally, we need your help manning the table games or helping out in the kitchen. The more help we get the better; and the easier it makes it for the rest of the workers. No experience is necessary, we'll train you and put you with one of our 'Bay-Seasoned-pros". For more information or to volunteer contact Bob Cummings at 267-226-7369. We're really hoping to make this our best night ever, but our best efforts will fail without your help and support. Chorus: I saw Delilah cuttin‟ Samson‟s hair, She snipped away until his head was bae; When he couldn‟t run away, She married him next day, And opened up a barber‟s shop in Clare. • Popular Young Boston Singer –Aoife Clancy Returns to Manchester City
Popular young Boston singer –Aoife Clancy returns to Manchester City Library’s Family Fare series in Victory Park to on July 21 at 7 PM right after the July 21st 6PM performance by Martha Dana & Her Very Big Puppets. Sponsors are St. Mary’s Bank, Citizen’s Bank and Smith Barney. Kids, parents and grandkids are invited to bring a lawn chair and a cooler as puppet show and then singing performance take place. Aoife (pronounced “Eefa”) Clancy is the daughter of the late Bobby Clancy of the Clancy Brothers who led a revival of Celtic music in the 1970s and often backed legendary Tommy Makem. Born and raised in the small town of Carrick-on-Suir, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Aoife learned music at her father’s knee. But she soon developed her own refreshing voice and a repertoire, which now includes both Irish traditional and contemporary folk songs, and ballads as well. She has toured internationally and recorded with the popular Celtic group “Cherish the Ladies” and she has released three CDs of her own. Her latest Silvery Moon on the Appleseed label has garnered worldwide acclaim. Mike Jackson of The Canberra Times said, “Her singing would melt packed ice with its warmth and richness.” Silvery Moon concludes with a tender version of Kisses Sweeter Than Wine on which Clancy is joined by her esteemed father. He died soon after the recording. Clancy headlined the Boston area “Celtic Connections” festival in June. Manchester City Library, 405 Pine Street, will remain open during the Aoife Clancy performance in Victory Park so that those attending the show may check out library materials.
