ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION IN HIGH SCHOOL

Cheyenne Central HS is a Class 4A school in a state of four classifications – 1A, 2A, 3A & 4A.

Football: 1987-1989 was a three year starter at Offensive Guard and 1988-1989 a two year starter at Defensive Tackle. Cheyenne Central was 4A State Champion 1988 & 1989. The 1989 team was ranked in top ten of Rocky Mountain Region.

Track & Field: 1988-1990 Participated in Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. 1988: 4A State Track Meet-Discus State Champion 168-4; Shot Put 5th place 50-6 1989: 4A State Track Meet-Discus State Champion 194-9 (state record); Shot Put State Champion 57-5.75. 1990: State Indoor Shot Put Champion; Outdoor 4A State Track Meet- Discus State Champion 210-4 (State Record & #2 throw in America/#7 all time for an American) State Outdoor Shot Put Champion 63-1 (State Record)

Golden West Track Meet Discus Champion 192-11 USATF Jr. National Discus Champion 175-9 with International Discus 2 kg. Member of USA Jr. World Team that competed in Bulgaria

OTHER INFORMATION

UCLA 1990-1995. During that time was a 11 time NCAA Track & Field All-American. Won the NCAA National Championship in the Discus twice and outdoor Shot Put once and indoor Shot Put twice. In 1995, set the current NCAA national outdoor Shot Put record of 72-2 . (record is still standing) 1995- Selected by U.S Track Coaches Association as 1995 NCAA Track & Field Athlete of the Year. 1995- Selected as a recipient of the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship for academic execellence.

USATF COMPETITION HIGHLIGHTS:

-1995 won the World Shot Put Championship -1996, became the first American to make the Olympic team in the Shot Put and Discus since Bud Houser did in 1924. He repeated the feat again in 2000 Olympics. -Three-time World Outdoor Shot Put champion (95,97,01) -2001 World Indoor Shot Put Gold medalist -1996 Olympic Shot Put Silver medalist - 2000 Olympic Shot Put Bronze medalist -2004 Olympic Team Member -1999, 2003 World Indoor Shot Put Silver medalist -1997 World Indoor Shot Put Bronze medalist -Three Time U.S. Outdoor Shot Put champion (1998,1999, 2001) -Four time US Indoor Shot Put Champion (1996, 1997, 1998, 2005) -Two time US Discus Champion (1997, 1998) -2005 Inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame

-Two time winner of the Award as the outstanding American Track & Field Athlete. The only thrower to receive this award and one of three athletes to have received it more than once. Other multiple recipients are and Michael Johnson.

-Served as an anti-doping Athlete ambassador for U.S. Anti-doping Agency. Was a pioneer in the crusade against the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
