Alvernia University Crusaders Alvernia, hailing from Reading, Pa., is coming off a season in which it finished 15-11 and 11-5 in the MAC Commonwealth Conference - good for first place in the regular-season standings. The 26th Annual Crusaders went on to fall to 69-53 in the Commonwealth semifinals. Return- ing as the team’s leading scorer from a year ago is senior forward Marquis Marshall (right), who paced the squad in scoring (18.8 ppg), rebounding (8.2 rpg), and blocks (1.9 bpg) last season en route to earning First-Team All-Commonwealth Conference honors. This year, he is a D3hoops. com Preseason Honorable Mention All-American. Two other Crusaders also return after averaging double-figure scoring totals a year ago in junior guards Mike Miller (13.5 ppg) and Alex Shippen (11.7 ppg). Shippen connected on 48 3-pointers a year ago while Miller knocked down 43 triples. Alvernia opened its season this past Tuesday with an 87-68 victory over Wesley College. Marshall led the way with 25 points while sophomore guard George Williams contributed 23 points and eight rebounds. Delaware Valley University Aggies The Aggies enter the 2016-17 season riding the momentum of a conference title and a trip to the NCAA Division III tournament. Delaware Valley, located in Doylestown, Pa., went 20-8 a year ago, setting the school record for victories, and 9-5 in the MAC Freedom Conference. The Aggies went on to capture the Freedom title with a 75-72 victory over in the tourna- ment championship game before dropping an 88-78 overtime decision to Oswego State in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Del Val returns two of its top-four scorers from last season in senior guard Tyliek Kimbrough (right) and sophomore guard Alex Matsinye, who averaged GETTYSBURG COLLEGE MEN’S 13.4 and 7.9 points per game, respectively, a year ago. Kimbrough, a Second Team All-Freedom Conference selection, also paced the Aggies in assists (4.0 apg) and steals (1.9 spg). First-year head coach Mark Seidenburg was successful in his head-coaching debut this past Tuesday, when TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT his team cruised to a 73-44 victory at Immaculata University. Matsinye paced the Aggies with 18 points while senior center Tyrea Williams posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Gettysburg College Bullets The Bullets are coming off their winningest season in seven years after finishing 18-9 a year ago. Gettysburg also went 12-6 in the to finish fourth in the conference standings before knocking off McDaniel College in the CC tournament first-round game, reaching the conference semifinals for the second year in a row. The team returns four players who started at least 10 games last season, including a trio of highly-experienced seniors - guard Pete Christ, forward Cody Kiefer, and forward/center Tanner Kirkpatrick. Kiefer (right) was the team’s second-leading scorer last season with 13.1 points per game and was named Second Team All-Centennial Conference. Kirkpatrick added 7.9 points per game while Christ netted 9.1 points per night while knocking down a team-leading 48 3-pointers. Junior forward Cameron Stewart is also back after pumping in 8.7 points per game. Gettysburg opened its season on Tuesday here in Bream Gym with a 59-52 loss to York (Pa.) College.
