Built in 1395, it is located in northern Seoul, South Korea. Changdeokgung Palace Seoul Changdeokgung, also known as Changdeokgung Palace or Changdeok Palace, is set within a large park in Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is one of the "Five Grand Palaces" built by the kings of the Joseon Dynasty. Jogyesa Temple Seoul Jogyesa is the chief temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The building dates back to the late 14th century and became the order's chief temple in 1936. It thus plays a leading role in the current state of Seon Buddhism in South Korea Gyeongju National Museum Gyeongju The Gyeongju National Museum is a museum in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Its holdings are largely devoted to relics of the Silla kingdom, of which Gyeongju was the capital. Bulguksa Temple Gyeongju Bulguksa is located on the slopes of Mount Toham. It is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and encompasses six National treasures of South Korea, including the Dabotap and Seokgatap stone pagodas, Cheongun-gyo, and two gilt-bronze statues of Buddha. Tongdosa Temple Busan Tongdosa is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and in the southern part of Mt. Chiseosan near Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Tongdosa is one of the Three Jewels Temples and represents Gautama Buddha YOUR ITINERARY Day ARRIVAL IN SEOUL Upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, you will welcomed by your local driver, please look out for 1 your name on their welcome board. Transfer to your hotel for overnight. Remainder of the day is at your leisure. Day FULL DAY SEOUL TOUR Today after Breakfast, Depart to visit to Jogyesa Temple, as the main temple as well as the district head 2 temple of Jogye order in Seoul and it is the center of Korean Buddhism. Next stop is Gyeongbokgung Palace and you will witness a changing of the Guard Ceremony. Then you will pass by Presidential Blue House, Cheongwadae Sarangchae (closed every Monday) before stopping for lunch. After lunch, visit Changdeokgung Palace which was the second royal villa built following the construction of Gyeongbukgung Palace in 1405. Then visit the Insadong Arts and Crafts Street. Insa-dong Street is one of the most memorable attractions in Seoul and represents the focal point of Korean traditional culture and crafts. Also visit the Namdaemun Traditional Market, the largest traditional market in Korea with shops selling various goods. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel. Breakfast Lunch Day SEOUL TO GYEONGJU BY TRAIN You will be transferred to Seoul station for the morning express train to Gyeongju by a local driver. Transfer 3 to Gyeongju by KTX train. Upon arrival in Gyeongju, you will be met by tour guide and the guide will take you to Gyeongju National Museum. Next visit Daereungwon Tomb Complex, large ancient tombs of kings and nobles of the Silla Kingdom and Cheomseongdae, the oldest existing astronomical observatory in Asia. The last stop will be Hwangridan-gil where a street located in Gyeongju Historic Areas. Cafes and restaurants in the street are designed inspired from hanok, Korea traditional house. Hwangridan-gil itself is a wonderful place where you can see the past and the present. Breakfast Lunch Day FULL DAY TOUR IN GYEONGJU Today, you will be picked up from your hotel for a full day's sightseeing in Gyeongju. Highlights of today's 4 tour includes Bulguksa Temple, the representative relic of Gyeongju. Seokguram Grotto, located on Tohamsan Mountain, is the representative stone temple of Korea. later visit Gyeongju Folk Crafts Village consists of 40 thatched and tile-roofed houses, lived in by local artisans of traditional arts and crafts skills. Various fields of crafts production including metal, pottery, timber, jewels, hanbok (Korean traditional clothes), and stone-crafts can be found in the village, and Anapji Pond, designed as a park for royalty. Breakfast Lunch Day GYEONGJU TO BUSAN BY ROAD Transfer to Busan by road. En route, visit the Tongdosa Temple is a head temple of the Jogye Order of 5 Korean Buddhism. Tongdosa is famous because there are no statues outside of the Buddha at the temple because the "real shrines of the Buddha" (relics) are preserved at here. On arrival, check into your choice of hotel. Later visit Haedong Yonggungsa Seaside Temple (This superb attraction offers visitors the rare find of a temple along the shore line; most temples in Korea are located in the mountains. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was first built in 1376 by the great Buddhist teacher known as Naong during the Goryeo Dynasty). Dongbaekseom Island (Island of Camellias) which is an island located off one end of Busan's famous Haeundae Beach. Breakfast Lunch Day FULL DAY TOUR OF BUSAN Today, you will be picked up from your hotel for a full day tour of Busan. The tour includes a visit to UN 6 Memorial Cemetery where in Korea honors UN soldiers from 16 countries and UN aids from five countries that were killed in battle during the Korean War from 1950-1953. Next visit Youngdusan Park (Busan Tower) in downtown Busan which is one of Busan's three famous mountains. Continue to Jagalchi Fish Market located on the shoreside road in Busan's Jung-gu, is Korea's largest seafood market, selling both live and dried fish. After the Korean War, the market solidified itself as a fish market. Last stop will be Gamcheon Culture Village which is formed by houses built in staircase-fashion on the foothills of a coastal mountain, earning this village the nickname "Machu Picchu of Busan." Many alleys that cut through this community are vibrantly decorated with murals and sculptures created by the residents. The Gyeongju earthquake of magnitude (Mw) 5.4 has initiated a significant activity in the area of seismic safety for nuclear power plants. Initial reports indicate that the nature of this earthquake is similar to the recent findings from geophysical investigations in Central and Eastern United States (CEUS), i.e., the earthquake ground motions contain not only the low frequency content but also some high frequency content. As is the case with most of the nuclear plants in CEUS, the safe shutdown earthquake (SSE) for most of the Korean plants have only low frequency content (below 10 Hz). Therefore, the nuclear plants in Korea are beginning to conduct a detailed seismic safety assessment of their structures, systems, and components (SSC). In the context of seismic safety assessment, high frequency motions are not likely to cause damage to structural systems as the displacements associated with such motions are relatively very small. Yet, past experience around the world has shown that electrical instruments such as relays, breakers, and contact switches can exhibit loss of functionality due to high frequency motions.

    Bulguksa Temple, South Korea Bulguksa is often regarded as the 'Museum Without Walls' Very few structures around the world can match the architectural beauty and aesthetic appeal of the Bulguksa Temple in South Korea. Located in Gyeongju city, often referred as the 'Museum Without Walls', this 8 th-century Buddhist temple is a delicately constructed masterpiece. The temple is known for its immense religious significance. The wooden structure of the temple rests on a raised platform of stone. History The construction of the Temple started during the reign of King Beop-Heung of Silla Kingdom in 5 th century AD. Theses two relics were designated as the national treasure of Korea in 1962. The Dabotap and Seokgatap pagodas stand at a height of 10.4 meters and 8.2 meters respectively. These two relics separate the Mauve Mist Gate called Jahamun and the hall housing the Sakyamuni Buddha known as Daeungjeon.

    Conservation Studies of Korean Stone Heritages Chan Hee Lee Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation Sciences, Kongju National University, Gongju, 32588, Republic of Korea Keywords: Korean stone heritages, Conservation, Weathering, Damage, Environmental control. Abstract: In Republic of Korea, a peninsula country located at the eastern region of the Asian continent, is mostly composed of granite and gneiss. The southern Korean peninsula stated approximately 7,000 tangible cultural heritages. Of these, the number of stone heritages are 1,882 (26.8%), showing a diverse types such as stone pagoda (25.8%), stone Buddha statues (23.5%), stone monuments (18.1%), petroglyph, dolmen, fossils and etc. Igneous rock accounts for the highest portion of the stone used for establishing Korean stone heritages, forming approximately 84% of state-designated cultural properties. Among these, granite was used most often, 68.2%, followed by diorite for 8.2%, and sandstone, granite gneiss, tuff, slate, marble, and limestone at less than 4% each. Furthermore, values of the Korean stone heritages are discussed as well as various attempts for conservation of the original forms of these heritages. It is generally known that the weathering and damage degrees of stone heritage are strongly affected by temperature and precipitation. The most Korean stone heritages are corresponded to areas of middle to high weathering according to topography and annual average temperature and precipitation of Korea. Therefore, examination of environmental control methods are required for conservation considering the importance of stone heritages exposed to the outside conditions, and monitoring and management systems should be established for stable conservation in the long term.

Received: 2 May 2017; Accepted: 19 June 2017; Published: 24 June 2017 Abstract: The purpose of this study was to develop a Korean climate change vulnerability assessment tool, the Vulnerability Assessment Tool to build Climate Change Adaptation Plan (VESTAP). Based on Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change methodology, VESTAP can be used to evaluate Korea’s vulnerability to major climate impacts (including 32 conditions in 8 categories). VESTAP is based on RCP 4.5/8.5 scenarios and can provide evaluation results in 10-year intervals from the 2010s to 2040s. In addition, this paper presents the results of a case study using VESTAP for targeted assessment of health vulnerability to heat waves under the RCP 8.5 scenario for the 2040s. Through vulnerability assessment at the province level in South Korea, Daegu Metropolitan City was identified as the most vulnerable region. The municipality and submunicipality levels of Daegu were also assessed in separate stages. The results indicated that Pyeongni 3-Dong in Seo-Gu was most vulnerable.

On September 12, 2016, earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.1 and 5.8 consecutively occurred in Gyeongju. 14 months later, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 occurred in Pohang, about 30 km away from Gyeongju, on November 15, 2017. This study investigated the change in the indoor radon concentrations before and after earthquakes to identify if there is any pattern between them and found an interesting pattern. Prior to earthquakes, radon anomalies, which are radon concentration deviating by more than ±2σ from the seasonal average, was usually identified. When 5.0 or greater magnitude earthquakes occurred, the indoor radon concentrations decreased sharply a few days before them, and then continuously increased until the occurrence of the earthquake.
