PacketCable is a CableLabs-led initiative aimed at developing interoperable interface specifications for delivering advanced, real-time multimedia services over two-way cable plant. The demonstration also will include a preview of Clarent's local access products and softswitch technology, enabling both on-net and off-net Voice over IP (VoIP) telecommunications services. This presentation is part of the exclusive CableNET* exhibit, which is co-sponsored by CableLabs and the California Association, and which showcases numerous innovative applications being developed for broadband. Clarent's presence at the show* coupled with the demonstration of its local access products* underscore the company's momentum toward delivering a complete suite of market-ready local access products planned for the first half of 2001. "Most VoIP vendors are significantly behind in bringing a truly deployable distributed softswitch technology to market, and this demonstration of Clarent's PacketCable-based solutions reinforces our lead in the race to bringing a feature-rich product suite to market," said Peter Bohacek, senior vice president, product marketing for Clarent Corporation. "The forthcoming delivery of our local access solutions are part of the company's overall goal to redefine the way people communicate and conduct business by driving unified convergence both over cable and telecom networks."
