The EDONT has recognised expertise in environmental law and is the only organisation in the NT, which provides free legal assistance to members of the community in relation to public interest environmental matters. The EDONT has specific expertise in relation to the regulation of the petroleum industry in the Northern Territory. We have (and do) act for traditional owners with respect to applications made under the Petroleum Act and have provided extensive community legal education in relation to hydraulic fracturing, including making presentations to the Full Council of the Central and Northern Land Councils. The EDONT’s reputation is built on: Successful environmental outcomes using the law. With over 20 years’ experience in environmental law, EDONT has a proven track record in achieving positive environmental outcomes through law. Broad environmental expertise. EDONT is an acknowledged expert when it comes to the law and how it applies to the Territory environment. We help the community to solve environmental issues by providing legal advice, community legal education and advocating for better laws. Independent and accessible services. Among other matters, he referred to the discovery of DDT pesticides: “We all thought DDT pesticides were fantastic until Rachel Carson’s book (Silent Spring) came out. And for me as a scientist what stunned me was the realisation that science can be

Traditional owners are supporting and collaborating in cross-border management in all directions (north, east, south and west). The smaller circles show Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the different homelands, communities and outstations where everybody is working together looking after the country.     Cultural flows LITERATURE REVIEW For First Nations People, water is a sacred source of life. The natural flow of water sustains aquatic ecosystems that are central to our spirituality, our social and cultural economy and wellbeing. The rivers are the veins of Country, carrying water to sustain all parts of our sacred landscape. The wetlands are the kidneys, filtering the water as it passes through the land. First Nations Peoples have rights and a moral obligation to care for water under their law and customs. These obligations connect across communities and language groups, extending to downstream communities, throughout catchments and over connected aquifer and groundwater systems. The project partners acknowledge all of the Traditional Owners across Australia who care for the waterways that sustain our Country. We pay deepest respects to their Ancestors and Elders who have protected and maintained water resources for thousands of years, and passed on the knowledge, stories and lessons through the generations. We acknowledge the nations of Murray Lower Darling Rivers Indigenous Nations and Northern Basin Aboriginal Nations who continue to fight for their inherent right to water, and who had a pivotal role in creating and directing the National Cultural Flows Research Project. We thank the Murrawarri and Nari Nari Nations who worked tirelessly as part of the research team to develop the cultural flows assessment approaches for this project.
