Education Key Response Activities (1/2) Component 1: Learning spaces = acess to education services • On Classroom Repair: 217 classrooms were repaired with 94 schools as its beneficiaries, supported by local LGUs, DepED, Parent-Teachers’ Association and PhilSAGA (165 in Agusan del Sur; 51 in Surigao del Sur) • On Temporary Learning Spaces: 72 temporary learning spaces were set up for 63 school beneficiaries and accessed by around 2,800 students (65 in Agusan del Sur, 4 in Surigao del Sur and 2 in Bislig City) Education Key Response Activities (1/2) Component 2: Provision of psychosocial support services (pss) and supplementary feeding assistance: • 378 teachers were trained on psychosocial support services from 74 schools (364 from Agusan del Sur and 14 from Surigao del Sur and Bislig City) facilitated by UNICEF, Ateneo de Davao University, Red Cross, Balay Rehabilitation and Basak Foundation) • WFP adopted a total of 119 schools as beneficiaries to its emergency feeding program reaching about 22,000 students (in 75 schools in Agusan del Sur, 42 schools in Surigao del Sur and 2 schools in Bislig City) • CFSI adopted 19 schools for their supplemental feeding this school opening with a total of 4,112 school children Education Key Response Activities (2/2) Component 3: Learners’ Kits, ECCD Kits and Teachers’ Kits • 15, 248 students were provided with learners’ kits from the 109 school beneficiaries with support from DepED Central Office, Jollibee Foundation, GMA Kapuso, UNICEF, Save the Children and local LGUs • About 1,303 teacher beneficiaries in 165 schools were provided by UNICEF-Balay Rehabilitation, Save the Children, Minda and PLGU with teachers’ kits. • 20 sets of ECCD kits were provided by UNICEF Component 4: Cluster System • Formally organized the clusters in the Regional level (December 2012) and Agusan del Sur Division (March 2013) • Organized the 29 District/Municipal-level Education Coordinating Teams last April 2013 as part of its preparedness plans • Crafted its Clusters Terms’ of Reference as well as the TOR of the response task groups for Regional, Division and District-level groups • Formally organized the remaining Divisions of CARAGA into cluster ( July 2) Education Challenges (1/2) Component 1: Learning Spaces = Access to education services • Repair of the remaining 453 damaged classrooms in the 94 affected schools (413 classrooms in 75 schools – Agusan del Sur) (34 classrooms in 17 schools – Surigao del Sur) (6 classrooms in 2 schools – Bislig City) • On Day Care Centers in 7 municipalities in Agusan del Sur (Sta. Josefa, Trento, Veruela, Bunawan, Loreto, La Paz and San Luis) – About 47 day care centers are totally damaged needing new construction of its facilities. – 81 day care centers in Agusan del Sur needing repair and are partially damaged Education Challenges (2/2) Component 2: Provision of psychosocial support services (PSS) • Continuous capability trainings for educational personnel on PSS; • Implementation of plans of re-echoing PSS trainings to other education personnel Component 4: On the Cluster System • Sustaining the operations of the cluster approach vis-à-vis RDRRMC and PDRRMC leadership • Roll out of cluster organizations in other divisions/provinces as part of preparedness plans Component 5: DRR Training for teachers & students • Capability training for Disaster Risk Reduction of teachers & students • Trained 35 teachers on DRR and 210 students of 6 schools of Sta. Josefa & Veruela ( training conducted by SCI) • Distributed 1, 890 DRR kits for school children for the 6 schools in the DepEd district of Veruela II & Sta. Josefa ( whistle & mechanical flashlight) –courtesy of SCI • Distributed 42 DRR kits for the all schools in Veruela II & Sta. Josefa including high school • ( DRR kit for school includes- whistle, flashlight & megaphones) courtesy of SCI • Earthquake & Arm Conflict drill in 3 elementary schools in Sta. Josefa and 3 ES in Veruela Component 6: EIE Training on ECCD * 35 day care teachers in Trento & Bislig were trained in Education in Emergencies, it was sponsored by UNICEF.
