PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2018

The MUFC is an incorporated association, is an affiliated club of the Melbourne University Sports Association, operates under the auspices of Melbourne University Sport within the University of Melbourne and proudly wears the colours of the University’s sporting teams: black and royal blue. The activities of the MUFC are founded upon meticulous planning, thorough preparation and the ethos of hard work. The core beliefs of leadership, responsibility, contribution, cohesion and teamwork (whilst making the MUFC a happy and supportive place in which to be involved with football) that each has imbued into the lives of many are the core beliefs of this football club and our three great tribes.

The Club (which was formed in 1859 and only six years after the establishment of the University) is an Australian Rules football club engaged in competitive sport, has participated in the Victorian Football League (now the Australian Football League), and, in 2017, participated in the Victorian Football League, the Victorian Amateur Football Association, the Northern Football League and the Western Region Football League. The affairs of the Club are regulated by the Rules of the MUFC. A Board of Management (of twelve and, by convention, four from each of the MUWFC, Blues and Blacks) is responsible for the management of the affairs of the Club.

For the best part of one hundred years, the Club has been represented in men’s football by University Blacks and University Blues, sometimes quarrelling but always brothers in the Pavilion one standing to the equal of the other regardless of the grade or division in which they play. For twenty years, the University has been represented in women’s football by the Melbourne University Women’s Football Club which now exists as a standing committee of the Club. For almost forty years, the Club was represented with distinction by University Reds now Fitzroy.

The MUFC has a long history of engaging players from the city, the country, interstate students, graduates and the occasional international student seeking to experience our unique game. We provide an important opportunity for students from the country or city to integrate into the life of the University of Melbourne. The MUFC provides an opportunity for all levels of skills and enthusiasm to combine athletic endeavour with study or post-university work. The connections players make at MUFC extend into career advancement well past her or his playing days.

In 2018, Blacks (led by Tyrone Bean, a proud Kabi-Kabi and Bindal man from south-east Queensland) again played a match to mark Indigenous Round.

In 2018, the MUWFC fielded three senior teams and an Under 18 youth girls’ team in the Victorian Football League Women’s League (Senior Grade), the Victorian Amateur Football Association (Reserve Grade and Third XVIII) and the Western Region Football League (Youth Girls).

4 | Page In 2018 in Premier A Division, Blues fielded three senior teams and, in Under 19 Section 2, an Under 19 team.

In 2018, in Premier B Division, Blacks fielded three senior teams and, in Under 19 Section 2, an Under 19 team.

In 2018, MUFC teams performed as follows:

MUWFC VFL Women’s 9th Blues VAFA Premier A 5th Blacks VAFA Premier B 3rd MUWFC NFL Premier Women’s 1st Blues VAFA Premier A Reserves 5th Blacks VAFA Premier B Reserves 2nd VAFA Premier Reserves MUWFC 2nd Women Blacks VAFA Premier Thirds 4th Blues VAFA Premier Thirds 10th Blacks VAFA Division 2 Under 19 9th Blues VAFA Division 2 Under 19 6th MUWFC WRFL Under 18 2nd

The MUWFC prevailed in the VAFA Premier Women’s Grand Final, which was a cause for great celebration for all with MUFC General Secretary, Leah Caluzzi, putting in a best on ground performance. The Premier Women’s Reserves and the Under 18 teams also played finals footy.

Blacks were narrowly beaten in the VAFA Premier B Preliminary Final virtually losing on the last kick of the day. Blacks’ Reserve Grade and Third XVIII (the Phoenix) also made the finals with the Reserve Grade being Runners-Up, a fine achievement.

The MUFC has a constant source of young talented footballers from its Under 18 and Under 19’s teams. Thanks to our coaches for their management, coaching and guidance of the Under 18 and Under 19 players who represented the MUFC. The role of coach of Under 18 and Under 19 University teams is arduous and time-consuming and our younger players have been the fortunate beneficiaries of the hard work, mentoring and leadership of our coaches.

Whilst Blues and Blacks are fierce rivals, recent years have seen co-operation and co-ordination between the two “tribes” over ground and asset management together with scheduling of games. This has been greatly assisted by the MUWFC who continue to develop strong relations with each of Blacks and Blues.

I congratulate Emma Kearney, Ellie Blackburn, Alicia Eva and Brooke Lochland upon their selection in the 2018 AFLW All Australian team with Emma winning the AFLW Best and Fairest for 2018 which was a great thrill for the MUFC. I congratulate Ashleigh Riddell, Katherine Gillespe-Jones and former player Madeline Keryk on their selection in the 2018 VFLW Team of the Year.

I congratulate on his richly deserved win of the JN Woodrow Medal for the best and fairest in the VAFA Premier Division together with his selection in the VAFA Premier Division Team of the Year.

5 | Page I thank our senior captains, Emma Kearney (MUWFC), Piers Flanagan (Blues) and Bede Mahon (Blacks) for their strong on and off-field leadership. The MUFC is indeed fortunate to have leaders of the calibre of the Emma, Piers and Bede.

The MUFC congratulates all award winners for 2018, the major of which were:

Blacks: Cordner Medal Jarrod Carlson (Best & Fairest) Brendan Keilar Medal Jordan Quaile

Blues: McLeod Trophy Ayce Cordy (Best & Fairest) Chris Brown Trophy Peter Summers

MUWFC: Michelle Dench Medal Ashleigh Riddell (Best & Fairest) Mary Cenacchi Award Madeleine Sheedy

In November, 2018, the Board resolved unanimously to accept the nomination of Peter Keogh (Blacks) as a life member of the MUFC. Peter (whom I have known and greatly respected for many years as we are contemporaries in the practice of the law) is the epitome of the selfless contributor to amateur football.

In 2018, the MUWFC and Blacks continued their tradition of holding Pride Matches.

I thank the committees of the MUWFC, Blues and Blacks for their hard work during the year. The day to day operations of the respective teams require much effort, hard work and dedication. The respective committees have performed their tasks very well. In particular I thank Laura Kane (MUWFC President), Nick Carah (Blacks’ President) and Tim Rourke (Blues’ President) for their active participation in co-operative co-ordination to achieve the best for Blues, the MUWFC and Blacks. I also thank the operations managers at the MUWFC (Leah Caluzzi & Ashley Bye), Blues (David Phefley) and Blacks (Jeremy Hua) whose significant and tireless efforts keep the wheels of University football turning.

I thank Melbourne University Sport with whom the MUFC works in close collaboration in setting the agenda and implementing our programmes for the advancement of Australian Rules football at the University. This included matches in men’s football in the Varsity Challenge.

I thank Peter Selleck for continuing to maintain the MUFC website. I thank the members of the Board for their work, advice and wisdom over the last year. Finally and, in particular, I express my gratitude to Leah Caluzzi and Stephen Longley for their unheralded, thorough and responsible work as General Secretary and Treasurer/Public Officer respectively.

The Board regards it as a privilege to be charged with the responsibility for the overall management and operation of the Melbourne University Football Club.

Opinion We have audited the financial report of Melbourne University Football Club, which comprises the statement of financial position as at 31 October 2018, the statement of comprehensive income, the statement of changes in equity and the statement of cash flows for the year then ended, and notes to the financial statements, including a summary of significant accounting policies, and other explanatory information.

In our opinion, the accompanying financial report presents fairly, in all material respects the financial position of Melbourne University Football Club as at 31 October 2018, and its performance and cash flows for the year then ended in accordance with the accounting policies described in Note 1 to the financial statements. Committee member’s Responsibility for the Financial Report The Committee Members of the entity are responsible for the preparation of the financial report, and have determined that the basis of preparation described in Note 1, is appropriate to meet the requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act Victoria and is appropriate to meet the needs of the members.

The Committee member’s responsibility also includes such internal control as the Committee members determine is necessary to enable the preparation of a financial report that is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. Basis for Qualified Opinion Cash donations, fundraising events and social functions and are a significant source of revenue for the Melbourne University Football Club. The Melbourne University Football Club has determined that it is impracticable to establish control over the collection of these sources of revenue prior to entry into its financial records. Accordingly, as the evidence available to us regarding revenue from this source was limited, our audit procedures with respect to identified sources of voluntary revenue had to be restricted to the amounts recorded in the financial records. We therefore are unable to express an opinion whether these sources of voluntary revenue the Melbourne University Football Club obtained are complete. Qualified Opinion In our opinion, except for the possible effects on the financial report of the matter described in the Basis for Qualified Opinion paragraph, the financial report presents fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of Melbourne University Football Club, as of 31 October 2018, and its financial performance, and its cash flows, for the year then ended, in accordance with the accounting policies described in Note 1 to the financial statements. Basis of Accounting We draw attention to Note 1 to the financial report, which describes the basis of accounting. The financial report has been prepared to assist the directors financial reporting responsibilities. As a result, the financial report may not be suitable for another purpose. Our opinion is not modified in respect of this matter.

Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with the Australian Auditing Standards will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of this financial report.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial report. The procedures selected depend on the auditor's judgement, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the entity's preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity's internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by the Committee members, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial report.

We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our qualified audit opinion.

16 | P a g e WOMEN’S – PRESIDENT’S REPORT

In 2018, MUWFC continued to provide opportunities for women and girls to play football from U12’s through to the highest State League offering in VFL Women’s.

With AFLW changing the sporting landscape in Australia forever, MUWFC was challenged with the new, very exciting role, AFL clubs now had in women’s football. Through our longstanding partnership with the North Melbourne Football Club, we were able to ensure our members remained the beneficiaries of elite facilities and resources, accessing Arden St oval twice weekly for training. We were also able to take steps to ensure MUWFC remains in the VFL Women’s for years to come. We thank the North Melbourne Football Club for their continued support. We welcomed a new senior coach in Scott Gowans, coaching our VFL Women’s side as an entrée into his efforts with North Melbourne’s inaugural AFLW side. MUWFC players such as Ash Riddell and Sophie Abbatangelo were the talented beneficiaries of this relationship, both landing a spot on North’s 2019 AFLW list.

Gowans was supported by a passionate and talented coaching group across the club, who gave up countless hours of their time to teach and develop the next generation of stars. We thank Alex Veitch, Jason Brown, Ron Sikora, Erini Giankopolous, Matt Ogilvie, Matt Smith, Wassim Rafihi and Mia Deverell. Our coaches were well supported by an equally enthusiastic high performance team.

On field, we went from strength to strength. Whilst development was the order of the day for our VFL Women’s, with unfortunately no finals appearance, our VAFA Premiers were victorious, taking out our first amateur premiership. It had certainly been a while between drinks. On a cold and rainy (hail included) day, our girls fought hard against a talented Marcellin outfit to take home the cup (albeit now a little wonky following premiership celebrations).

Our VAFA Premier Reserves supported the efforts of our senior sides, finishing second on the ladder before falling in the preliminary final stage. Our U18s also progressed through to the finals, bowing out at the semi-final stage. We congratulate all of our graduating U18 players – Renata Zanini-Sassani, Annalise Wilkie, Kira Grace, Angela Hall, Olive Bowers, Alyssa Humphries, Mollie Ann Gregory, Grace Chatto and Tessa Marra.

Further highlights of our season included: - Our second Pride game against Darebin in Hamilton, Victoria - Launching our Halo Club and announcing North Melbourne footballer, Ben Brown, as our #1 member - Welcoming Tasmanian State League Women’s players into our VFL Women’s side throughout the year; - Emma Kearney named AFLW Best and Fairest

17 | P a g e I would like to take this opportunity to thank our committee, who contributed countless voluntary hours throughout the season. As Executive committee, Secretary Leah Caluzzi and Treasurer Ashley Bye were the real MVP’s (and I mean really – with Caluzzi named best on ground in our VAFA Premier grand final!). Supported by Kira Price, Jayde de Bondt, Andrew Reddan, Maddie Sheedy, Lucy Walsh and Bess Keaney, our committee was passionate, hardworking, and proud to lead such a wonderful club.

We congratulate our individual award winners, as follows:

VFL Women’s . Michelle Dench B&F: Ash Riddell . Runner up B&F: Kate Gillespie-Jones and Emma Kearney . Leading goal kicker: Katie Angelis and Asha Price . Most improved: Katie Angelis . Coaches award: Caitlin Greiser . Best first year player: Madison Prespakis

VAFA Premier . B&F: Leah Caluzzi . Runner up B&F: Ruby Grounds . Leading goal kicker: Caitlin Greiser and Lucy Watkin . Player of finals: Sian Wilson and Taylor Hunt . Most improved: Jade Tancred . Coaches award: Marinella Salafia

VAFA Premier Reserves . B&F: Matilda Myers . Runner up B&F: Olivia Turnbull . Leading goal kicker: Hannah Townsend . Player of finals: Sam Marshall . Most improved: Amy Bracks . Coaches award: Hayley Sadler

U18’s . B&F: Renata Zanini-Sassani . Runner up B&F: Annalise Wilkie . Leading goal kicker: Renata Zanini-Sassani . Most improved: Eve Sheehan . Most consistent: Angela Hall . Coaches award: Olive Bowers

Club awards . Mary Cennacchi Award (Best Club Person) – Maddie Sheedy . Volunteer thank you – Isi Slavin . U18 to Seniors scholarships – Renata Zanini-Sassani and Annalise Wilkie

18 | P a g e And as always, the above is not possible without the indelible support of our club sponsors. We thank Prince Alfred Rooftop and Bar, Flemington Community Bank (Bendigo Bank), Errol Street Spinal and Sports Physiotherapy and Bendgio Bank Private Banking Services. [Insert any others].

We also thank our player sponsors and inaugural Halo Club members.

On a sombre note, we mourned the passing of Life Member and Club stalwart, Penelope Green, following a long battle with cancer. The 38th woman to represent MUWFC, Penelope was a selfless was a selfless contributor to the Club, a member of the Club’s first ever finals team and the captain of the inaugural 3rd team in 2003. She pulled on the black and blue in 124 games from 1998 to 2006. In addition to her lengthy playing career, Penny also fulfilled almost every voluntary position possible. She brought her intellect, critical thinking and attention to detail to every one of her roles, and had a significant impact on the Club’s foundation and sustainability. Her sizeable contribution has been recognised with the announcement of the Penelope Green Volunteer Award to reward the significant contribution made by Penny and the legacy she left. This award will recognise the significant contribution made by volunteers off the field, and will be awarded from 2019.

Here is to a big 2019!

BLACKS - PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Season 2018 for the University Blacks Football Club can best be described as “The One That Got Away”.

After being relegated to B Grade in 2017, the hope was that Blacks would immediately bounce back to Premier Grade in 2019. This was never going to be an easy task, with a relatively young and inexperienced list and some strong competition at the top end of the competition. More on that to follow….

More broadly the Club enjoyed a successful year, introducing a number of new players and families to the Blacks and continuing to build our base of contributors, which is so important to the ongoing sustainability of a volunteer run Club that competes in an increasingly professional VAFA competition.

The Club welcomed back 2014 Premiership Player, Adam Pattison in a new role as Head of Football and Patto’s influence on the coaching and playing group was profound and has added greatly to our player recruitment & retention and general football expertise. Jeremy Hua stepped us as our Football Operations Manager and excellent with his commitment and attention to detail and really grew into the role as the season progressed. We are delighted that Adam and Jeremy will continue in their roles in 2019.

We welcomed Mark Haysman onto the Committee and it was a great result to get such a high- quality person with his AFL leadership experience involved in the Club. His work with the Blacks Leadership Group and the coaching group was a great initiative in 2018. Recently retired player Simon Hogan, continued his invaluable work in the area of player welfare ensuring that we had a safe, secure and inclusive environment for all our players and support there for them when required.

Dan Costello & Tom Howgate, Club stalwarts since the early - mid 2000’s took on the challenging recruitment portfolio overseen with such passion and expertise by Ray Wilson for over 10 years. It has been wonderful to see the energy and expertise injected by Dan & Tom and their stellar work has continued post season. A big thank you to Justin Gray, Mark Haysman and the “Godfather” Ray Wilson for their ongoing efforts in the recruiting space.

Huw Lacey & Scott Hissey stepped up to re-establish the Black Wine Auction night which proved to be a huge success with over 100 attendees at Project Forty-Nine in Collingwood. It was wonderful to see attendees from multiple generations enjoying a thoroughly entertaining evening and raising over $30k for the Club. A big thank you to former players, Tom Portet and Nicholas Brooks for their expertise on the night.

Leveraging the support of our generous sponsorship group, headed by Bendigo Private remains a huge part of our future strategy and we thank the support all sponsors and donors to the Club.

Football At the end of the home and away season, St Bernard’s had earned top spot with just 2 losses, having beaten Blacks in both games, with Old Carey in second place, also with just the 2 losses, leaving Blacks in third place with 3 losses and Caulfield Grammarians back in fourth position with 7 losses.

The First Semi Final was a hard fought affair. Down by 15 points at three-quarter time, Blacks kicked 6.6 in the last quarter, to Caulfield Grammarians 1.2 and ran out comfortable winners by 19 points. The downside to the win was that Captain Bede Mahon was reported for unduly rough play and was given a 4 week suspension. Added to this, Joel Ernest was called up for VFL duties with Richmond so Blacks went into the Preliminary Final, against Old Carey, without their top two midfielders.

The game turned out to be one for the classics. Six points separated the teams at half time and just one point at the three quarter break. The final quarter went goal for goal, with Blacks in front with just minutes to go, only to see Old Carey goal with just 5 secs left on the clock. Missing promotion back to Premier Grade by such a small margin was gut wrenching stuff!!

A number of Senior players left the Club at the end of 2017, including Harry Allen (17 senior games in 2017), Mitch Carney (15 games), Angus Drysdale (11 games), Simon Hogan (10 games), Matthew O’Brien (15 games), and James Toohey (10 games). But these losses were offset somewhat by the recruitment of players such as Joel Beasley (University WAAFL), Joshua Broderick (TAC Northern Knights), Matthew Burt (Montrose EFL), Jarrod Carlson (Marcellin VAFA), Lachlan Knight (Yarraville WRFL), Thomas Swift (Claremont WAFL) and Louis Vescio (Montrose EFL). Jarrod Carlson was the standout as he played in all 20 games and won the Senior B & F Cordner Medal, with Brendan Keilar Medallist, Jordan Quaile, a close second.

The Reserves had their best season since 2014, winning 15 games and finishing the H & A season in second place on the ladder. They went down to ladder leaders Beaumaris in the second Semi Final but won a nail-biting Preliminary Final against St Bernard’s by 2 points but were then outclassed by Beaumaris in the Grand Final.

The Thirds finished in fourth place but, in a Final Six Series, went down to 5th placed Old Melburnians in the Semi Final. They played a total of 70 players throughout the season which appears to be the nature of Thirds football. 38 of those players played in just 5 games or less!!

The Under 19’s were an enthusiastic and, at most times, competitive team but again struggled to win games. They finished with 3 wins for the year, going down in 6 other games by less than 3 goals. The U19 group were well led by Chris Smith and Justin Gray and after a couple of worrying seasons, we turned the corner to an extent and created a more positive and engaging environment for our young players which we intend to build on in 2019.

Acknowledgements There are a many people that make significant contributions to the Blacks and I would like to acknowledge the following people: - Thanks to the Blacks’ Committee for their ongoing commitment to the cause, in particular my Vice President, Scott Myers who was deservingly awarded Life Membership of the MUFC at season end.

21 | Page - The support of our sponsors is greatly appreciated and we continue to take great strides forward in building our broader business network. We also acknowledge and thank the generous donors to Club without whose support we would not be able to function. - Thank you to our Football Department and their legion of match day and training volunteers, including Nick Burke, Mick Commadeur, Steve Commadeur, Tim Thomas, Peter Bertoncini, Dan Costello, Tony Costello, Simon Costello, Rob Ryan , Rob Hanna and the numerous others who make regular contributions during the season. - Josh Whitford and the team from Kieser Medical ensured the Blacks medical and physio services remained the envy of the competition. - Under the guidance of Dan Costello, the Club participated in a ground-breaking concussion study headed by Associate Professor Sandy Shultz. We thank Sandy and the Department of Neuroscience at Monash University to inviting the Blacks to be part of this valuable research. - Inclusion and diversity are lived and breathed constantly at the Blacks and in 2018 we hosted two important days on our calendar. Firstly, an Indigenous Round where the Club played in a fantastic jumper designed by senior player Tyrone Bean and a Pride Game later in the season where we played proudly in our rainbow jumper. The Blacks would like to thank the University of Melbourne and MU Sport for their support for these two days. - A final thank you to the tireless work of the MUFC and in particular Andrew Donald who makes a significant contribution to the welfare of the Blacks, the Uni Blues and the MUWFC. To my colleagues at the Blues and the MUWFC, thank you for your support and friendship during the season and all the best for season 2019.

Our players deserve special acknowledgement for a committed season of effort on the field and a season of personal growth and maturity off the field. We have been fortunate to have a Captain of the calibre of Bede Mahon in recent seasons and it was great to see our next wave of leaders developing and taking on greater responsibility as the season progressed.

Finally, I would like to thank our dedicated coaching group headed up by our Senior Coach, Cam Roberts. We are truly fortunate to have a man and coach of Cam’s nature and stature and it was a highlight to see the working relationship between Cam and Adam develop over the season.

A big thank you to Reserves Coach, Linc Merlo who has stepped down after 3 dedicated years in the chair. Never an easy job and many young Blackers are indebted to you for your efforts Merls. Equally a big thank you to Mick Farrell who took on the job of coaching the Phoenix (3rds) with the help of long-standing Phoenix legend, Sam Lane. A great first year Mick, with a finals finish and a year of development and enjoyment.

Chris Smith with his right-hand man Justin Gray took on the U19’s role which saw a pleasing turn around after a couple of disappointing and concerning years for the Unders. With a bit of luck, we could have had 5-6 wins by mid-season, but a string of close losses was frustrating but our percentage improved massively from recent seasons and we were highly competitive all season.

22 | Page We head into season 2019 in good hands and a firm resolve to keep the hard-earned momentum of 2018 going. Increasingly this takes a Club wide effort and our on and off field success really is driven by the quality and quantity of people contributing to the welfare of our great Club. I urge all players, past players, supporter and friends of the Blacks to get involved and be part of the Blacks family.

Go Blacks!

BLUES - PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It is with great pride that I present my president’s report for the 2018 season.

An enormous amount of time, effort and commitment on field and off field has been contributed to the club this year. These efforts enable the ongoing development of our club and the continued promotion of a culture of inclusiveness, excellence and integrity that reaches beyond the football field.

Whilst the final ‘on field’ results were not as hoped they have served as an opportunity for valuable learnings for the entire club - all that will be taken into the 2019 season. I am extremely proud of the way the entire club journeyed through a challenging year – committed, united and focused right to the very end.

All of our teams were well prepared, coached and developed throughout the year. Lead by our senior coach, James Walker and his staff including Ben McKinley, Christian Neeson, Adrian Morrissy, James Van de Pol, Chris Pyke, Luke Fulton-Tindal and their assistants – I wish to thank everyone for their leadership, time and effort.

Of particular note, a special thanks to James Walker for his efforts as our senior coach for the past two years. Whilst James is stepping aside next year, his efforts and dedication have resulted in Blues playing some excellent football over the past two years, making the 2017 preliminary final and James being awarded Premier Coach of the year in 2017. Acknowledgement and thanks also to Ben McKinley, Christian Neeson, Adrian Morrissy, James Van de Pol and Luke Fulton-Tindal who are also stepping away from their roles next season. The contribution this group has made to the club has been enormous and we are extremely grateful for their expertise and support - I wish them well with their future endeavours.

To our players, thank you for your commitment and dedication during the 2018 season. All of our sides did many things right, but it is the nature of the game that sometimes luck doesn't swing your way in the crucial last minutes of a game, injuries or other competing factors that are all beyond our control. Despite the challenges, the players’ commitment to each other and the club remained strong. You should be very proud of yourselves. The club is proud of you. I am really looking forward to seeing you take on the 2019 season.

In regard to looking forward to next year, I would also like to warmly welcome Heath Jamieson as our senior coach for 2019.

The success of a football club is underpinned by the hard work and support by so many people. Thank-you. Uni Blues would not be the great club that it is without you. There are a number of people and groups that I would like to acknowledge and thank:

32 | Page The Committee - for your efforts and dedication throughout the year. The engagement of the Committee this season was excellent.

Sponsors - Major sponsors Deloitte, Blood Motor Group, Sugar by Half, Caydon, Bastion, O’Brien Racing, the Cameron, Wilson and Rourke families and all our other sponsors, donors and Blues 25 Members.

Football Operations Department and Match Day Staff - Mick Robin, Gerry Westmore, Josh Kelliher, Bernie Angel, John Carmody, Tony McInerney, Jim Hayes, Daniel McDonald (Junior), Edgar Guerrero, Tony Simmons, Josh Tinner and Georgia, Justin Quill and Ray Scanlon (Sugar).

Canteen/Afternoon Tea helpers - Helen Phefley, Mary Donaldson, Cathie Vickers- Willis, Rose Batarilo and the Canteen Girls (Sarah, Rachel, Rachel, Issy and Gemma).

David Phefley - for the enormous amount of work contributed all year - we are incredibly grateful of the time and effort you dedicate to the club.

Medical Team - your commitment and expertise ensures our players maximise their time on the field throughout the season. A special thanks to Dr. Peter Brukner who oversees the whole program and ensures that the club has access to the best possible medical support.

Thanks again to all of the above mentioned people and to all the many others that help out. It is a huge effort to keep the club running from an operational perspective – we couldn’t survive without you, we never take you for granted and we appreciate everything you do for the Blues. You're amazing.

Congratulations to all our club award winners in 2018. You are all very deserving of your respective awards and they reflect the effort and commitment that you have shown during season 2018 both on and off the field. On this point a special congratulations to Ayce Cordy for winning the 2018 Woodrow medal and our Seniors 2018 Best & Fairest – an amazing effort.

While the VAFA A grade competition continues to develop and improve we are as well positioned as we have ever been for on field success in 2019. We are committed to developing our players both on and off the field and are increasingly becoming a club of choice for many young people. 2019 represents an exciting opportunity for the Blues and I look forward to everyone’s continued support next year.

Enjoy the break and see you in 2019 - together we are strong.
