PROCLAMATION AND RESPONSE

The Opening Prayer (in unison): (adapted from Katherine Hawker, https://re-worship.blogspot.com.) Almighty Father of all life, you have taught us that Strength is commanding the wind and sea to obey. Strength is wielding a slingshot in the face of a raging giant. Strength is accepting vulnerability from inside the boat. Strength is standing in solidarity with the powerless. Strength is turning a cheek. Strength is loving an enemy. We come to worship you this day, grateful and challenged as you redefine our vision of strength, in the name of Christ, whose strength was his submission to you. Amen.

Prayer Chorus: “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” (vs. 1 only) TFWS #2191 Eternal Father, strong to save, whose arm has bound the restless wave, Who bid the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep, O hear us when we cry to thee from those in peril on the sea.

Time of Silent Meditation Pastoral Prayer lifting Celebrations and Concerns The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Children’s Message – A special moment just for kids Dr. Robert Miller

Special Music: “Great Is Thy Faithulness” by T.O. Chisholm / W.M. Runyan Katie Jimenez, Soloist / MaryLee Turner, Piano

Scripture Lesson: Mark 4:35-41 Pew Bible N.T. pg. 36 35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Response to the Word L: This is the Word of God for the people of God P: Thanks be to God!

Sermon: “HAS ANYONE SEEN THE WEATHER REPORT?!” Dr. Robert Miller, Guest Preacher

WE GO AS WITNESSES FOR CHRIST IN THE WORLD

*Closing Hymn: “This Is My Father’s World” UMH #144

1) This is my Father's world, This is my Father's world: and to my listening ears he shines in all that's fair; all nature sings, and round me rings in the rustling grass I hear him pass; the music of the spheres. he speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father's world: 3) This is my Father's world. I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; O let me ne'er forget his hand the wonders wrought. that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet. 2) This is my Father's world, This is my Father's world: the birds their carols raise, why should my heart be sad? the morning light, the lily white, The Lord is King; let the heavens ring! declare their maker's praise. God reigns; let the earth be glad!

*Benediction: L: Go forth into the world determined to best your fears and overcome your anxieties by God’s grace, for He who stills the storms of nature can still the storms in our hearts, and can give us peace and assurance in the midst of life’s turmoil around us. This is how mercy looks from here. May it be so! P: Thanks be to God. Amen.

However, because we do have children and other vulnerable persons among us who are unable to be vaccinated, you may continue to wear masks as long as you wish, and social distancing will remain in place at least through June, and we will continue to ask you to sign up to attend Sunday worship or Taizé services in person for now. Call the church office at (989) 799-0131 or SIGN UP ONLINE HERE. If you are vaccinated, feel free to share a pew and/or sit with others who are vaccinated in closer proximity than the 6-foot rule. Thank you for your patience and compassion for those that remain vulnerable.

As Deep As It Is Wide By Eric Paslay Sung by , Eric Paslay, View video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COLxbNfYuOA

There's a place at the edge of the sky Where there's a love deep as it is wide The weak are strong, hungry are all fed And there's a breeze from the angels flyin' overhead

Ah, yeah, there's a path, a glorious light That guides you up the mountainside At the top, if you could you'd cry 'Cause you see pure love for the very first time Deep as it is wide

Chorus: Every breath takin' me closer Every step leadin' to paradise They say, the faithful get to go there I believe there's a love deep as it is wide

I hear when you get to the river You look back for the very last time And when you cross, you get washed off forever Hurry up boy, eternity is on the other side Whoa, deep as it is wide, yeah! [Chorus]

Every nation, color and creed Like grace pouring out, far as the eye can see Singin' praises up to a King 'cause He died For a crowd, deep as it is wide, yeah, yeah, yeah! [Chorus]

I believe in love, oh yeah I believe there's a love deep as it is wide Oh, yeah, oh, oh There's a place at the edge of the sky There's a love deep as it is wide
