Keralam Museum of History and Heritage "Preserved Glory"

A historical-ancestral museum called 'Kerala', managed by the Department of Tourism is located next to the Park View Building in Vellayambalam. The Keralam Museum of History and Heritage showcases an elaborate collection of articles and photographs describing the cultural evolution of Kerala. The display includes a wide array of paintings, sculptures and photographs. There are also multimedia installations that elaborately tell the story of the heritage and traditions of the state. The museum also has a seminar hall and a museum shop inside the complex. Located near the corporation building, this museum is definitely worthy of spending some time. Napier Museum "South India Museum"

Named after the former Madras governor Lord Napier, the museum is an architecturally well-planned structure under the supervision of the architect, Chisholm. Built during the reign of the Travancore dynasty, displays fine art works and rare archaeological artifacts that include ancient ivory carvings. Other exhibits include stone carvings, by Mohanraj Kolathapilly antique jewelry and ornaments. The 19th-Century marvel with an Indo- Saracenic style is particularly impressive to history buffs. Also, within the same museum compound, is an art gallery and a zoo, which is also worth a visit.

Inaugurated on November 12, 1993, Sree Chitra Enclave is a museum dedicated in memory of the last king of the erstwhile Travancore dynasty, Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. This museum is located inside the museum complex and comprises historically important artifacts such as the royal chariot used by the king, and personal artifacts such as swords, coins, stamps and medals. Also displayed are 14 murals painted by famous artists which highlights the geographical and socio-cultural evolution of the Travancore dynasty throughout its existence. This enclave serves as a fine tribute to the Travancore dynasty.

Numismatics Museum "Huge Collection of Ancient Coins"

The only Numismatics Museum established by the Department of Archaeology in Kerala, this museum has a collection of historical and valuable collection of coins acquired from across the world. It is located on the ground floor of the and inside the rooms of the historic palace comprising coins that once belonged to Indian dynasties by Ashcoounter such as the Nizam of Hyderabad, Tipu Sultan and the Gwalior royal family. Among the prized possessions of the museum are the oldest Indian coins that are identified as 'Karsha' - minted 2,500 years ago and more than 300 coins belonging to the Roman dynasty with faces of the Roman gods and rulers minted on it.

Folklore Museum "Ancient Artifacts of the Royal Family"

The Folklore Museum is situated on the upper floor of the Koyikkal Palace which was once occupied by the Queen Umayamma Rani of Venad Royal Family in 17th Century. Established by the Department of Archaeology in 1992, this museum comprises an extensive collection of musical instruments, household equipment and some of the rare artifacts such as Chandravalayam and Nanthuni which is a string instrument made of wood. Besides, brass and copper-wares as well as ornaments and dresses belonging to the royal family are also preserved inside this museum.
