Perry Tsai, MD, PhD National President, American Medical Student Association Hello attendees! It is my distinct pleasure to welcome all of you to the 69th Annual American Medical Student Association Convention & Exposition, in partnership with National Physicians Alliance. And when I say all of you, I mean students, alumni, physicians, speakers, exhibitors — everyone who has come together here in Washington, D.C., to celebrate, motivate and empower the future of medicine and the future of you. Since our start in 1950 and our establishment as an independent student-led association in 1967, we have always been looking toward the future of medicine. As a membership association, we strive to bring together future physicians from around the country and the world into a community for support, a space for learning, and a platform for leadership. As an advocacy organization, we continue to push and partner toward our progressive goals for quality, affordable health care for all, and for diversity and equity in medicine. This year, we have been hard at work building up our Institutional Partnerships, speaking out for affordable medicines and gun safety, and registering and mobilizing voters through our Med Out the Vote initiative. This Convention reflects all that AMSA is about. Talk with your congressional representatives on Advocacy Day about the need for affordable medicines or gun safety. Hear the call to action at our keynote sessions from Heather Booth, Dr. Rishi Manchanda, and Dr. Leana Wen. Vote on our leaders and policies at the House of Delegates and elections. Check out opportunities to get involved with our committees, teams, or campaigns at Member Hub or the socials. Cheer on your fellow AMSAns at the Story Slam, Poster Session, or Sim Challenge competition. All that and more with breakouts, trainings, the Exhibit Hall, and Pre-Health or Residency Fair. It has been such a privilege to serve as your national president these past months, as I round out my 10th year learning and leading with AMSA. Thank you for being here, and I hope you all have a terrific weekend. Sincerely, Perry Tsai, MD, PhD National President, American Medical Student Association 69TH ANNUAL AMSA CONVENTION & EXPOSITION | #AMSACONV2019 13 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Heather Booth is one of the leading strategists on progressive issue Heather Booth, MA campaigns and driving issues in elections in the United States.
