The word ‘mascot’ originates from the French term ‘Marcotte’ which means lucky charm. This was used to describe anything that brought luck to a household. The word was first recorded in 1867 and popularized by a French composer Edmond Audran who wrote the opera La mascotte, performed in December 1880. During the strike we had our very own mascot. He held the line every day with us and was compensated with food. Towards the end of the Edd McNulty strike he probably acquired a few health I wish to thank everyone that came ailments but after a few months of a strict together for our strike against GM, the diet we hope he’s alright. community, retirees and local unions that visited our picket line, or donated food etc., and to our membership who came together. Our Education Committee Local and Unit did an excellent job in the class they taught. Down the road everyone should have the opportunity to attend union classes. Don’t forget your safety shoes, there is a store in Toledo as well as the truck. We at Powertrain welcome everyone coming to Toledo. It is a great place to work because of its union employees. A point to ponder. 13,000+ UAW members didn’t vote on the National Agreement. A NO vote is a NO show. Not voting does not count as a yes vote. It is very sad that the UAW didn’t do anything for retirees in this agreement. I hope the retirees let UAW in Detroit know how they feel. If you know any retirees thank them because they started the foundation for our union. It’s up to us to build a better union on that foundation. I also need help! GM has received a charge against them for old age discrimination. If you know anyone receiving social security benefits and was denied S & A pay or had to pay money back. Please contact me. This issue was not addressed in the National Agreement. If you are out and see a Veteran, thank them, they helped protect our way of life. Please keep God in Christmas. This was the same facility we tried to organize a few years ago. Senator Sherrod Brown recorded a message for us to play before the movie which articulated the need for labor unions and the dignity of work. This event was put on by Local 12, 14, and 1435. And Then There Were the Jeeps

We’re very fortunate to be in a union town! We had one of the best strike experiences in the union. This is because we’re in a neighborhood area and we’ve supported our community through out our time here. Other locations are either off a freeway (where its hard for cars to see them), In an out of the way area (where its hard for cars to see them), or in the south where they don’t love unions. None of those situations applied to us. Last spring, we went to the aid of our union sisters and brothers at St. Vincent’s. We were there on day one all they way to the resolution of their labor struggle. On Mother’s Day our members barbequed for them. Little did we know how much they would return the favor! Sue Pratt is the chairperson of the nurse’s unit and helped advise us before our strike took place. She was with us from the start and donated all their strike kits. During their strike they had all their Jeeps roll down Cherry street in a show of solidarity. Local 12’s president Bruce Baumhower made sure we were treated to the same experience twice on Solidarity Sunday’s. This was accompanied with them barbequing for us both times as well. Each time they would meet up at the Wheelin on the Rocks Bar and have a food donation for us. We will never forget the solidarity they along with all the other unions showed us!

During the strike Community Services Committee held a blood drive at the Local 14 Union Hall. This was the same blood drive that was scheduled to be held in the plant before management’s unreasonableness. This showed who we are as a union. This was also covered by the media and was part of the good press we received throughout the strike. Thank you to all who participated in any way!
