74th Independence Day WHAT IS THE MEANING OF INDEPENDENCE FOR ME? The word ‘independence’ has vital importance for me. Being the granddaughter of a renowned freedom fighter of Rajasthan, a TAMRA PATRA awardee by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, patriotism runs in my blood. Also, my father’s two younger brothers served in the Indian Army as doctors. I married the son of a warrior who fought two wars against Pakistan and one against China in 1960, 1961 and 1971. To add on to this glory my only daughter is married to a Major in the Indian Army who has served at Kargil, Siachen, Leh and Ladakh, who was also the part of UN Peacekeeping force in Alaska and later in Sudan. Independence Day is being celebrated as a national festival today but for me, it remains a part of my soul. The stories of patriotism that fascinated during my childhood, continue to be told by my father-in-law and son-in-law. After constantly hearing these heroic sagas from three generations, I request the new generation to serve for the country. I think the armed force personnel are the persons who keep us safe by serving at all the international borders, and hence deserve reverence. To summarize the above as quoted by George Bernard Shaw: “Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it. By Ms.Dipti Joshi

It was in 1929, when Jawaharlal Nehru gave a call for Poorna Swaraj meaning complete independence from colonial rule. January 26 was chosen as the Independence Day and the Congress party even celebrated it from 1930 onwards till India's independence. August 15 became the Independence Day, the reason was the Last Viceroy of India, Mountbatten, was given powers and mandate by the British Parliament to transfer the power to Indians by June 30,1948. However, Mountbatten chosen 15 August 1947 as date for India's independence because this date became symbolically significant for British as on the same date in 1945, Japan surrendered to the Allies during the Second World War. By- Karandeep Singh Talvar SERIES REVIEW - BROOKLYN NINE - NINE IMBD-8.4/10 The cast of Brooklyn 99 is Andy Samberg, Mellisa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe lo Truglio and Terry Crews. The series revolves around Jake Peralta, an immature but talented NYPD detective in Brooklyn's fictional 99th Precinct. He is often in conflict with his commanding officer Raymond Holt. It's a show of pure comedy with humorous stories. There will be parts where you will cry, but mostly you will be laughing for the whole series due to the funny actions of Jake, teacher's pet Amy, stern and serious Captain Holt, Muscular Terry, the inseparable Hitchcock and Scully and others. The other thing I've noticed which makes this show better is the exclusion of laugh tracks. I like that no one liners are present instead the element of humour is generated by the actors and actresses individual personalities. The characters complement each other perfectly. The chemistry between the characters is meticulously created which is so much enhanced by the writing, dialogue and portrayal of the characters themselves. People might think after some time they will get bored, but due to the impressive character development and frequent changes in the story line the show remains fresh as always. A story continues for maximum 2-3 episodes so that the viewers don't get bored. Kennedy To inculcate the qualities of a headship in the learners and giving them an experience of handling an administrative body, the Student Council was formed by the students of KPS through online voting during the lockdown. KPS has always been ahead in the field of Technology, and had organized a Live Virtual Investiture Ceremony on Zoom, which also premiered on YouTube. The ceremony was hosted by Sargun Kaur, Ansh Rialch, Meghna Tomar, and Vivek Tomar. The ceremony began with a motivational speech by the Vice-Chairman Mr. Anirudh Khaitan. He made the newly elected student council realize that they are the beacon of the learners. He urged the student council to bring big changes in the school and make great changes in the country in the future. After that, a mesmerizing and beautiful ‘Aatm-Jyoti Kathak Dance' was performed by Shruti Sehgal, Raghav Sehgal, and the students from grade 3 to 11, with 'OM' Mantra chanting. Ms. Anusuya Ghosh Banerjee and Ms. Suman Rawat prepared the children in the same way as a craftsman carves an ordinary stone to a beautiful idol. Thereafter, Headmistress of the Elementary Wing, Miss Tapasya Thakur boosted up the council’s confidence. Miss Aparajita Roy, the Headmistress of the Middle Wing of the school enlightened students about what a true leader really is. She also quoted John Quincy Adams, “If your actions inspire others, to dream more, do more, you are a leader”. Then our Vice-Principal Mr. Anand Kumar administrated the oath to the Senior Head Boy and Head Girl who represented the entire council. Then, he talked about Barack Obama’s night victory speech and how inspirational it was. Following that, the former Heads of the council, Avni Nagar and Manan Gupta shared their experiences about, how KPS did this intellectual and moral development. Then Rashi Ratan and Araf Rauf Saifi, current Heads of the Council expressed their joy and promised the council to be great leaders. At last, our school Principal, Miss Sonia Anil Verma gave a speech which empowered children to discover the leader in them. She told the students, what a leader is and how to acquire leadership skills and qualities, through the quotes of Nelson Mandela. She applauded the newly elected members of the Student Council. And then there was a last vote of thanks by Diya Tyagi, the Super Champ of KPS. From my point of view, the event was filled with excitement and outstanding coordination. It was inspirational as well as motivational. This event will always be remembered by the viewers. A whopping 92 Khaitanians joined for an hour-long journey into the intricacies of Potterverse. Everyone promptly renamed themselves as characters from the world of witchcraft and wizardry when they joined the meeting. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the intriguing questions that tapped their memory and analysis of the books and films. The winner of the wizarding quiz was 'Lily Evans' a.k.a Tanishi Bansal of XC. What is Depression? What can you do about it? Sadness, feeling down, and having a loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities are familiar feelings for all of us. But if they persist and affect our lives substantially, the issue may be depression. Depression is the main cause of disability worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). It can affect adults, adolescents, and children. It does no discrimination like humans do. Depression is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is different from the mood fluctuations that people regularly experience as a part of life. Major life events, such as bereavement or the loss of a job, can lead to depression. However, doctors only consider feelings of grief to be part of depression if they persist. Itis an ongoing problem, not a passing one. It consists of episodes during which the symptoms last for at least 2 weeks. It can last for several weeks, months, or years. The symptoms of depression can include: a depressed mood, unintentional weight loss or gain, sleeping too much or too little, agitation, restlessness, and pacing up and down, slowed movement and speech fatigue or loss of energy, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty thinking, concentrating, or making decisions, recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, a person may have difficulty dealing with lifestyle, cultures, and experiences for the first time and they may develop depression, anxiety, or both as a result. Symptoms of depression in college students may include: difficulty concentrating on school, work, sleeping too much, avoiding social situations and activities that they used to enjoy, physical changes, peer pressure. They may experience some of the following symptoms: withdrawing from friends and family, difficulty concentrating on school work, feeling guilty, helpless, or worthless, restlessness, such as an inability to sit still. In children, symptoms can make schoolwork and social activities challenging. They may experience symptoms such as: crying, low energy, clinginess, defiant behavioral outbursts. Younger children may have difficulty expressing how they feel in words. This can make it harder for them to explain their feelings of sadness. The medical community does not fully understand the causes of depression. There are many possible causes, and sometimes, various factors combine to trigger symptoms. Factors that are likely to play a role include: genetic changes in the brain’s neurotransmitter levels, environmental factors, psychological and social factors, additional conditions. Such a Depression is treatable, and managing symptoms usually involves three components; Support: This can range from discussing practical solutions and possible causes to educating family members. Psychotherapy: Also known as talking therapy, some options include one-to-one counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Drug treatment: A doctor may prescribe antidepressants. The study also found that eating more of the following foods helped reduce depression symptoms: Fruit, vegetables, fish, olive oil. Aerobic exercise raises endorphin levels and stimulates the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, which is linked with mood. This may help relieve mild depression. As we have heard the phrase change is the only constant. Covid-19 pandemic has brought a huge change in the way the education is seen in the world. Normal white boards and black pen markers have been replaced by the tablets and laptops. Homework written in diaries have been replaced by Google classroom. There was a rule in India that there would be no phones allowed inside school but ironically now school is inside a phone. Education, which everyone has the right to get in India is only reserved now to those who can buy a smartphone. This is really a sad sight to see. But that is the only way that a student can get educated in this time of crisis. Who thought 5 to 10 years prior to this pandemic, that in 2020 we would be at our homes and learning online through zoom or MS teams? Nobody thought that just like work from home, there would be school from home. Online schooling has quite a lot of merits like, being a panacea or a blessing in this time of crisis. We can get our education now in a very different way. But sadly, the demerits of it overshadow the merits of online education. The main demerit is the amount of time spent infront of a screen. Normally, a 14 to 15-year-old child would spend 3 hours looking at a phone but now he has to spend over 7 to 8 hours looking at a computer screen. It even has a lot of network delays. If the network is poor, students can miss out important points which may come in his or her exam. Moreover, the social connect between a teacher and student or even the friendship between two students is now missing in online schooling. Would I prefer online schooling during this pandemic? Yes. Would I prefer normal schooling over online schooling? Also, yes.
