TV Stars GARY DELANEY and IVAN BRACKENBURY on Stage in GUERNSEY for Latest JUST the TONIC Show TV stars GARY DELANEY and IVAN BRACKENBURY on stage in GUERNSEY for latest JUST THE TONIC show DUKE OF RICHMOND HOTEL, THURSDAY AUG 26th 2021 Following sell-out success of six world-first ‘non-socially distanced, full capacity, live- audience’ comedy gigs in Guernsey this year, regular stars of BBC 1 and Channel 4 TV shows GARY DELANEY and IVAN BRACKENBURY will perform in Guernsey next week. For one night only, at The Duke of Richmond Hotel, Cambridge Park, thanks to Just the Tonic Comedy Clubs and Polygon Collective. Over 1,000 islanders and dozens of tourists have already enjoyed monthly world class entertainment from comedians Laura Lexx, Ed Byrne, Adam Bloom, Ben Norris, Scott Bennett, Glenn Wool, Daliso Chopanda and Sally-Anne Hayward since Guernsey’s borders started reopening. Established Stand up stars and writers for prime-time TV shows like Mock the Week, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Live at the Apollo and Have I got News For You, they are also stars of BBC Radio 4 and frequent headliners at Comedy Store and Just the Tonic clubs, plus international festival stages from Edinburgh to Montreal and Glastonbury to Latitude 2021. Double SONY AWARD winner GARY DELANEY is a star of top-rated BBC comedy show Mock the Week. IVAN BRACKENBURY is the creation of Tom Binns, star and co-writer of BBC 1 comedy series ‘Hospital People’, as also seen on 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. Also on stage, at Gary Delaney’s invitation, will be STEVE DAY, a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4 and Britain’s only deaf comedian. If there are other deaf comics out there Steve claims confidently he hasn’t heard them! Compere for this August show will be award winning Adam Bloom, known as ‘Ricky Gervais’ favourite comic’, who headlined the second Guernsey Covid-Safe Comedy show. Enjoying our islands and the “warm friendly audience” so much he offered to compere the next available show, keen for more opportunity to explore the Bailiwick. In the past fortnight Ed Byrne’s Guernsey show finally went ahead, previously being postponed due to Covid. Ed invited old pal Glenn Wool and ‘funniest ever Britain’s Got Talent finalist’ Daliso Chaponda to join him. Daliso, originally from Malawi and a star of The Royal Variety Performance 2020, spent time between performances enjoying Guernsey sunshine whilst writing new episodes for his popular BBC Radio 4 comedy show ‘Citizen of Nowhere’ (find pre-broadcast episodes on BBC iPlayer). Returning compere for the Ed Byrne show was much loved comedienne Sally-Anne Hayward, well known from supporting major tours including Russell Howard, Russell Kane and, (pre-covid), Sarah Millican. Sally-Anne has fallen in love with Guernsey and will again be compering a series of new Just the Tonic shows currently being scheduled for Guernsey next year, in between supporting Sarah Millican’s 2022 tour. Continues … Gigs are powered by Just the Tonic, the UK number 1 group of Comedy Clubs, with kind support of Guernsey’s privately owned investment company Polygon Collective. Polygon Collective’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Wright says : ‘We are delighted to support events like these for everyone to enjoy and are proud that Guernsey can attract and host comedy nights and enjoy top acts’ Darrell Martin and Darren Vogel realise there is a unique opportunity to enable the positive mental health benefits of unrestricted entertainment and laughter in Guernsey. The organisers and artists are grateful for the support of : Polygon Collective, The Guernsey Press, Red Carnation Hotels and Doyle Motors. #GuernseyTogether Several “Covid-safe” technical solutions were prepared and soft-trialled during the initial solo performance by Laura Lexx at St Pierre Park in May. These innovative measures enhance and ensure future Covid safety and contact tracing capabilities, where they may later become necessary or mandatory at short notice. Darrell Martin’s critically acclaimed JUST THE TONIC COMEDY CLUBS began in Nottingham over 25 years ago and are now one of the most respected comedy brands in the UK. Playing host to countless up-and-coming comics, as well as many of the most established names of live gigs and screen, Just the Tonic operates leading comedy venues in Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Reading and Watford, as well as leading iconic venues at Leicester Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe. Past and current Just the Tonic performers include the likes of Ricky Gervais, Matt Lucas, Al Murray, Bill Bailey, Stewart Lee, Mark Thomas, Simon Pegg and Noel Fielding whilst Dylan Moran, Ross Noble, Daniel Kitson and Johnny Vegas are all regular comperes at Darrell’s clubs today. Darrell has refocused some of his Just the Tonic Edinburgh Festival Fringe presence to Guernsey this year. This may in future bring hundreds of comedians and comedy fans to the island as a regular summer season of entertainment is established. Last tour covered over 200 venues, he’s known as the premier gag smith of his generation. Sarah Milican likes him so much ... she married him! ‘A cavalcade of Brilliantly inventive puns’ THE GUARDIAN ★★★★ ‘One of Britain's grandmasters of the one-liner' CHORTLE ★★★★ ‘More quality jokes in 1 hour than most comics have in their entire careers’ THE SCOTSMAN ★★★★ ‘A master craftsman’ THE TIMES ★★★★ IVAN BRACKENBURY - the creation of Tom Binns, the star and co-writer of BBC 1 Friday night comedy series ‘Hospital People’. Tom is an award-winning and critically acclaimed character comedian who has won three SONY GOLD AWARDS. Tom’s ventriloquist act, alter egos Hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury and The ‘Psychic’ comedium have won him over 30 five star reviews and many awards. In fact, he’s widely regarded as THREE of the best headliners working in British Comedy! "Audiences are laughing their heads off" METRO "Top-quality entertainment with practically universal appeal" THE GUARDIAN ‘Fosters Comedy God’ + ‘Best International Act’ New Zealand International Comedy Festival “A unique, wonderfully Brilliant show guaranteed to make you cry with laughter”. Ivan has stared in BBC shows Alan Partridge, Lee and Herring, Friday/Saturday Night Armistice. On Channel 4’s IT Crowd, 8 out of 10 Cats do Countdown, Ri:se, The Big Breakfast, Under the Moon, Drifters. Films Going to Mecca and Eaten by Lions. Complete with inappropriate records and bungled cues Ivan Brackenbury is a fantastic one man 'Hospital Radio Roadshow', a regular fixture on the live circuit. This daft, inept yet adorable radio DJ takes you on a hilarious broadcasting journey. ADAM BLOOM - Headline act of Guernsey’s first Just the Tonic show at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. Enjoyed our islands and audience so much could not wait to come back, offering to compere a future show. So here he is now! One of Britain’s most original and inventive multi-award winning comedians, Adam is hugely in demand as both writer and performer the world over. "One of my favourite stand-ups for about ten years" Ricky Gervais "Bloom is perhaps the perfect comedian" ««««« The List "In the premier league of comedy" The Independent With seven sell-out solo runs at The Edinburgh Festival, a 29-date sell-out tour of the UK, Adam broke box-office records for any comic’s first ever appearance at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He is Banksy’s go-to comedian (projects include Dismaland) and a writer on a range of collaborations. TV credits include The Stand Up Show, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Russell Howard’s Good News. Adam has written three series of ‘The Problem with Adam Bloom’ for BBC Radio 4. STEVE DAY - A familiar voice on Radio 4, appearing many times on You and Yours and even a token man on Woman's Hour. Appearances in radio dramas, All Fingers and Thumbs with Bill Nighy (whom he punched dramatically), and Sound Barriers (Patricia Routledge and Caroline Quentin). Britain’s only deaf comedian… if there are any others he hasn’t heard! "Warm, funny, frank and thought-provoking" THE SCOTSMAN A disabled performer, Steve is more concerned with success in the mainstream comedy circuit. He says he is happy to 'deaf it up' as necessary though, if the money is ok and there are reasonable sandwiches! He's also highly recommended by, and a good mate of, Gary Delaney, so he's jumping on the Condor Ferry and bringing his bike to the island with Gary to make a Guernsey-getaway opportunity out of this gig. Ends. .

  • E-Petition Session: TV Licensing, HC 1233
Petitions Committee Oral evidence: E-petition session: TV Licensing, HC 1233 Monday 1 March 2021 Ordered by the House of Commons to be published on 1 March 2021. Watch the meeting Members present: Catherine McKinnell (Chair); Tonia Antoniazzi; Jonathan Gullis. Other Members present: Rosie Cooper; Damian Collins; Gill Furniss; Gareth Bacon; Jamie Stone; Ben Bradley; Tahir Ali; Brendan Clarke-Smith; Allan Dorans; Virginia Crosbie; Mr Gregory Campbell; Simon Jupp; Jeff Smith; Huw Merriman; Chris Bryant; Mark Eastwood; Ian Paisley; John Nicolson; Chris Matheson; Rt Hon Mr John Whittingdale OBE, Minister for Media and Data. Questions 1-21 Chair: Thank you all for joining us today. Today’s e-petition session has been scheduled to give Members from across the House an opportunity to discuss TV licensing. Sessions like this would normally take place in Westminster Hall, but due to the suspension of sittings, we have started holding these sessions as an alternative way to consider the issues raised by petitions and present these to Government. We have received more requests to take part than could be accommodated in the 90 minutes that we are able to schedule today. Even with a short speech limit for Back- Bench contributions, it shows just how important this issue is to Members right across the House. I am pleased to be holding this session virtually, and it means that Members who are shielding or self-isolating, and who are unable to take part in Westminster Hall debates, are able to participate. I am also pleased that we have Front-Bench speakers and that we have the Minister attending to respond to the debate today.

JSOU Report 16-11 IS and Cultural Genocide: Antiquities Trafficking Howard, Elliott, and Prohov and Elliott, JSOUHoward, Report IS and Cultural 16-11 Trafficking Genocide: Antiquities JOINT SPECIAL OPERATIONS UNIVERSITY In IS and Cultural Genocide: Antiquities Trafficking in the Terrorist State, the writing team of Retired Brigadier General Russell Howard, Marc Elliott, and Jonathan Prohov offer compelling research that reminds govern- ment and military officials of the moral, legal, and ethical dimensions of protecting cultural antiquities from looting and illegal trafficking. Internationally, states generally agree on the importance of protecting antiquities, art, and cultural property not only for their historical and artistic importance, but also because such property holds economic, political, and social value for nations and their peoples. Protection is in the common interest because items or sites are linked to the common heritage of mankind. The authors make the point that a principle of international law asserts that cultural or natural elements of humanity’s common heritage should be protected from exploitation and held in trust for future generations. The conflicts in Afghanistan, and especially in Iraq and Syria, coupled with the rise of the Islamic State (IS), have brought renewed attention to the plight of cultural heritage in the Middle East and throughout the world.
