Resumen Entre los sedimentos cuaternarios de la llanura pampeana, en particular en las provincias de Buenos Aires, sur de Córdoba y La Pampa, son frecuen- tes acumulaciones arenosas culminando la secuencia. Han recibido distintos nombres formacionales, y estratigráfi camente se las ha considerado asigna- bles a la edad mamífero Lujanense (Pleistoceno superior), en algunos casos con sus términos superiores en el Holoceno. En el centro de la provincia de La Pampa, extensos mantos arenosos se conocen como Formación Meauco, formación que tiene continuidad física con depósitos equivalentes de la pro- vincia de Buenos Aires. En el trabajo se describen e interpretan cuatro per- fi les sedimentológicos detallados de esta unidad, relevados en la cercanía del paraje Jagüel del Monte. Los mismos ponen en evidencia que existieron dos períodos en los que la humedad fue mayor, coincidiendo con sedimen- tación escasa a nula y el desarrollo de paleosuelos, de manera que durante el lapso de tiempo materializado por la Formación Meauco, se sucedieron cinco períodos con diferencias climático ambientales: árido - húmedo - árido - húmedo - árido. Medellín5 & Enrique Martínez-Meyer2 # Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2020 Abstract Understanding species distributions and the variation of assemblage structure in time and space are fundamental goals of biogeography and ecology. Here, we use an ecological niche modeling and macroecological approach in order to assess whether constraints patterns in carnivoran richness and composition structures in replicated assemblages through time and space should reflect environmental filtering through ecological niche constraints from the Last Inter-glacial (LIG), Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) to the present (C) time. Our results suggest a diverse distribution of carnivoran co-occurrence patterns at the continental scale as a result of spatial climatic variation as an important driver constrained by the ecological niches of the species. This influence was an important factor restructuring assemblages (more directly on richness than composition patterns) not only at the continental level, but also from regional and local scales and this influence was geographically different throughout the space in the continent. These climatic restrictions and disruption of the niche during the environmental changes at the LIG-LGM-C transition show a considerable shift in assemblage richness and composition across the Americas, which suggests an environ- mental filtering mainly during the LGM, explaining between 30 and 75% of these variations through space and time, with more accentuated changes in North than South America. -

E-mail: [email protected] 2 INCITAP (CONICET-UNLPam) RESUMEN La Formación Cerro Azul fue definida en 1980 para incluir a las sedimentitas continentales pliocenas (limolitas arenosas y are- niscas limosas) que afloran de manera discontinua en casi todo el ámbito de la provincia de La Pampa. No obstante, varias in- vestigaciones paleontológicas realizadas a partir de la segunda mitad de la década del 80’ han permitido ubicar geocronológi- camente a la unidad en el intervalo 10 Ma a 5,8-5,7 Ma. El objetivo del trabajo es realizar un análisis de las características li- toestratigráficas de la Formación Cerro Azul de acuerdo al Código Argentino de Estratigrafía. Se propone un lectoestratoti- po para la unidad, consistente en el perfil de Algarrobo del Águila y un perfil auxiliar en cerro El Morro. También se estable- cieron las relaciones estratigráficas con otras formaciones. Se interpreta un paleoambiente depositacional de llanura, donde alter- nan depósitos de loess con numerosos paleosuelos, detectándose escasos depósitos lacustres en la base y pocos cursos fluviales. We organize these tetrapod fossils into five, time-successive biostratigraphic assemblages (in ascending order, Owl Rock, Rock Point, Dinosaur Canyon, Whitmore Point and Kayenta) that we assign to the (ascending order) Revueltian, Apachean, Wassonian and Dawan land-vertebrate faunachrons (LVF). In doing so, we redefine the Wassonian and the Dawan LVFs. The Apachean–Wassonian boundary approximates the Triassic–Jurassic boundary. This tetrapod biostratigraphy and biochronology of the Triassic–Jurassic transition on the southern Colorado Plateau confirms that crurotarsan extinction closely corresponds to the end of the Triassic, and that a dramatic increase in dinosaur diversity, abundance and body size preceded the end of the Triassic. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. [email protected] ABSTRACT – The South American Teiidae fossil record is restricted to the Cenozoic, and the most conspicuous remains were found in Early to Late Miocene of Argentina and Middle Miocene of Colombia and Peru, all represented by Tupinambinae lizards. Here, we describe a right fragmentary dentary and one dorsal vertebra collected in the Solimões Formation at the Talismã locality, situated on the Purus River, in the southwestern Brazilian Amazonia (Late Miocene). The material is tentatively conferred to the extinct genus Paradracaena. It represents the first record of lizards for the Neogene southwestern Brazilian Amazonia. Key words: Teiidae, Tupinambinae, Solimões Formation, Miocene, southwestern Brazilian Amazonia. RESUMO – O registro fóssil de Teiidae para a América do Sul é restrito ao Cenozóico. Os fósseis mais significantes são encontrados a partir do Mioceno inferior ao superior da Argentina e Mioceno médio da Colômbia e Peru, principalmente representados pelos Tupinambinae. Neste trabalho descreve-se um fragmento de dentário direito e uma vértebra dorsal coletados em sedimentos da Formação Solimões, na localidade Talismã, alto rio Purus, sudoeste da Amazônia brasileira. -

Siderca initiated its activities during the import substitution phase in Argentina and later achieved international market leadership. The explanation for this breakthrough onto the global stage is to be found in the arrival of a new and young group of middle managers who were promoted from within the corporation. This pattern is consistent with the literature on the role of middle management in the design and implementation of strategic change. The transformations in this company also influenced the rest of the activities of the Techint Group. Lithium extraction in Argentina: a case study on the social and environmental impacts Pía Marchegiani, Jasmin Höglund Hellgren and Leandro Gómez. Executive summary The global demand for lithium has grown significantly over recent years and is expected to grow further due to its use in batteries for different products. Lithium is used in smaller electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptops but also for larger batteries found in electric vehicles and mobility vehicles. This growing demand has generated a series of policy responses in different countries in the southern cone triangle (Argentina, Bolivia and Chile), which together hold around 80 per cent of the world’s lithium salt brine reserves in their salt flats in the Puna area. Although Argentina has been extracting lithium since 1997, for a long time there was only one lithium-producing project in the country. In recent years, Argentina has experienced increased interest in lithium mining activities. In 2016, it was the most dynamic lithium producing country in the world, increasing production from 11 per cent to 16 per cent of the global market (Telam, 2017). There are now around 46 different projects of lithium extraction at different stages. However, little consideration has been given to the local impacts of lithium extraction considering human rights and the social and environmental sustainability of the projects. With this in mind, the current study seeks to contribute to an increased understanding of the potential and actual impacts of lithium extraction on local communities, providing insights from local perspectives to be considered in the wider discussion of sustainability, green technology and climate change. -

Tonni2,*** ABSTRACT The age and phyletic context of mammals that dispersed between North and South America during the past 9 m.y. is summarized. The presence of a Central American province of cladogenesis and faunal differentiation is explored. One apparent aspect of such a province is to delay dispersals of some taxa northward from Mexico into the continental United States, largely during the Blancan. Examples are recognized among the various xenar- thrans, and cervid artiodactyls. Whereas the concept of a Central American province has been mentioned in past investigations it is upgraded here. Paratoceras (protoceratid artio- dactyl) and rhynchotheriine proboscideans provide perhaps the most compelling examples of Central American cladogenesis (late Arikareean to early Barstovian and Hemphillian to Rancholabrean, respectively), but this category includes Hemphillian sigmodontine rodents, and perhaps a variety of carnivores and ungulates from Honduras in the medial Miocene, as well as peccaries and equids from Mexico. For South America, Mexican canids and hy- drochoerid rodents may have had an earlier development in Mexico. Remarkably, the first South American immigrants to Mexico (after the Miocene heralds; the xenarthrans Plaina and Glossotherium) apparently dispersed northward at the same time as the first Holarctic taxa dispersed to South America (sigmodontine rodents and the tayassuid artiodactyls). -

[email protected] ABSTRACT – The Bauru Group is a sequence at least 300 m in thickness, of Cretaceous age (Turonian- Maastrichtian), located in southeastern Brazil (Bauru Basin), and consists of three formations, namely Adamantina, Uberaba and Marília. Throughout the Upper Cretaceous, there was an alternation between severely hot dry and rainy seasons, and a diverse fauna and flora was established in the basin. The ichnofossils studied were found in the Adamantina Formation outcrops and were identified as Arenicolites isp., ?Macanopsis isp., Palaeophycus heberti and Taenidium barretti, which reveal the burrowing behavior of the endobenthic invertebrates. There are also other biogenic structures such as plant root traces, coprolites and vertebrate fossil egg nests. The Adamantina Formation (Turonian-Santonian) is a sequence of fine sandstones, mudstones, siltstones and muddy sandstones, whose sediments are interpreted as deposited in exposed channel-bars and floodplains associated areas of braided fluvial environments. Previous studies described five localized concentrations of vesicular impact glasses from the Holocene to late Pliocene. Two more occurrences from the late Miocene are reported here: one near Chasicó (CH) with an 40Ar/39Ar age of 9.24 ± 0.09 Ma, and the other near Bahía Blanca (BB) with an age of 5.28 ± 0.04 Ma. In contrast with andesitic and dacitic impact glasses from other localities in the Pampas, the CH and BB glasses are more mafic. They also exhibit higher degrees of melting with relatively few xenoycrysts but extensive quench crystals. In addition to evidence for extreme heating (>1700 °C), shock features are observed (e.g., planar deformation features [PDFs] and diaplectic quartz and feldspar) in impact glasses from both deposits.
