This summer, a student from the Fish Ecology and Conservation Physiology Laboratory at Carleton University monitored the new culvert that connects Brewer Pond to the Rideau River for use by aquatic species. Hours of video footage captured several smallmouth bass, various sunfish, snapping and painted turtles, muskie, beavers and other species using the culvert and the habitat around it. GREEN DREAMERS

Planting for 2017 PHOTO BY JILL ANDERSON

By Winnie Pietrykowski

On Tuesday, October 18th, junior and senior kindergarten students from Hopewell Public School planted daffodil and tulip bulbs in the public garden bed near the children’s playground. Among the bulbs planted were Canada’s official tulip, Canada 150, in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017. Assisting our eager young gardeners were JK/SK teachers Jill Anderson and Lesley Kathnelson, and the Green Dreamers of Old Ottawa South.
