Construction of spring water catchments in Kulyab to improve water supply and quality and to safe energy

Under the South Tajikistan Water Rehabilitation In this article we want to inform about the

Project (STWRP) financed by a 6 Mio USD EBRD loan constriction of the Jangalak water catchments as this and grant investments to water supply and is a good example how to combine improvements in sanitation in the Cities of Dangara, Kulyab and water quality and supply with electrical energy Quorghon -teppa were envisaged. Since the start of savings and environmental and social protection this project in January 2010 AquaMundo as the issues. Consultant is supervising the PIU of KMK in The water source "Jangalak" near Kulyab consists of engineering, design, tendering, works and contract two rows of approx. 40 springs, defined as the "left" supervision. Main focus was given to increase inflow and "right" inflow. Under the supervision of drinking water production and water quality through the PIU and of AquaMundo GmbH Dushanbe Design 12 subprojects as (among others). Institute "Vodokanalproject" LLC has developed T he construction of a new water treatment basic and detailed design documents for both plant in Dangara with a capacity of 7500 catchment areas and for inflows connecting them to

provided. Now, the construction of water intake with connection to "left" inflow is at its completion stage. Productivity of the left inflow is ranging from 7,500…7,800 m³/d drinking water and thus it may

cover about 30% of the cities’ overall water demand.

According to the preliminary estimates the output of the "right" flow will be by up to 4,700 m³/d, which is equivalent to some additional 20% of the current water demand of Kulyab distribution area. Thus, two sources in Jangalak once connected o the supply system will provide about 50% of the water demand of Kulyab area with high quality spring water. The water from these springs will be supplied to the city reservoir near the 2nd booster pump station only by gravity and consequently without usage of any electrical energy necessary for pumping. Moreover, due to the good spring The catchments tunnel inside water quality no additional and energy consuming water treatment will be necessary. Thus usage of full water supply capacity of AQUAMUNDO Jangalak water intake will significantly reduce energy consumption

and thereby the costs of water production.
