Forward by Stirling Hamman

The genesis of this phenomenal tour took place at St. Paul’s Collegiate School, Hamilton when Ross Chapman and I discussed the possibility of a South African 060s tour with Deputy Principal Chris Luman during our 2013 NZ tour. Chris being a South African implored us to visit his country and in order to make it successful undertook to organise our fixtures.

And so with the generous consent and support of our SCA Board it happened!

The outcome was the most amazing cricket touring and life experience one could imagine as the vivid pictures and flamboyant stories in these two beautifully presented and colourful tour books reveal in glowing detail.

We were sublimely blessed as the stars lined up to ensure our tour’s outstanding success. When Chris Luman was unable to organise the visit due to his appointment as the new Principal of Maritzburg College, Pietermaritzburg he recommended Ken Childs of South African PK Sports to organise our tour. Ken promptly and expertly accomplished all of our goals in terms of cricket contacts, games, transport, accommodation and tourist activities. Ably assisted by irrepressible characters in our tour guide Peter Francisco and bus driver Clive we enjoyed every moment as we rumbled about this bewildering country playing cricket.

The itinerary was a winner. Our initial stay in the impressive Pilansberg game park next to Sun City was the ideal place to begin our odyssey. The rest and recreation in our luxurious executive suites did us a world of good after our long inward journey. Who could forget those iconic African animals dancing through our lives as we bounced around those open aired vehicles along very questionable dirt tracks at sunrise and again at sunset? Our fun continued unabated when we flew to Durban and then to Port Elizabeth and on our coach journey down the Garden Route to Knysna; Stellenbosch and finally Cape Town. Throughout the tour our accommodation was impressive with the luxurious 5 star Peluza Golf Resort at Knysna being an absolute stand out.

Wherever we went the local cricket club hospitality was overwhelming. Every game was keenly contested and we are delighted with our final tally of 8 wins, 5 losses and 1 washout particularly as most of our opposition were under 60. The team constantly improved and clearly played its finest cricket at tour's end. We played at some amazing scenic and historic grounds awash with tales of South Africa's finest former International cricketers some of whom we either played against or met socially. All of these experiences were wildly extenuated by the richness of South African society with its exceptional African and European heritage, the natural beauty of the countryside and the jolly camaraderie fostered in our comfortable coach. The coaching clinic and the

Page 4 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of South Africa 2014 – Tour Report subsequent spontaneous “warm up “ with the local African boys in Abbbotsfield near Knysna established conclusively that love, good‐will and friendship are the fundamentals in overcoming any challenges.

We had a wonderful party of tourists. Everyone remained close friends and supported each other at all times on and off the field. The fun and jokes endured for the whole tour and in this the WAGS were special. Their support of our cricket was constantly boisterous and on occasions spectacular. Their carefully rehearsed renditions of “Waltzing Matilda” and “I Still Call Australia Home “ with appropriate word changes to reflect the status of the cricket matches and local conditions were both breathtaking and tearful in its emotion and execution!

I wish to acknowledge and thank our SCA President Kerry Emery and our Vice Captain/Manager Ross Chapman for their monumental assistance and support of the tour. Their professional manner and execution ensured everyone was relaxed and jovial at all times and this was integral to our collective enjoyment. Similarly to John Fryer for his famous daily chronicles and unique aboriginal gifts; Peter Harrison for his studious statistics and masterful compilation of these tour books; Brian Scott for his memorable South African 060s Tour Calendar and Paul Cullen for his Tour Movie extravaganza. All of their contributions to our tour were invaluable and made it a spectacular success.

Finally to our players. You were a wonderful team of cricketers who performed with skill and enthusiasm. More importantly as friends you unreservedly committed yourselves to the quest of representing Australian 060s in this pioneering tour to ignite the Senior’s Cricket movement in South Africa. We all knew it was a dream but one well worth pursuing as we all love the game and just want to enjoy it with guys who are the same vintage wherever they maybe.

Our dream now is to return in February 2016 and do it all again! I know that reading these excellent tour books will demand that return.

Best wishes, Stirling Hamman Captain Seniors Tour to South Africa April 2014

Acknowledgement

Clearly from reading Stirling’s Tour Report this tour was a highlight in our cricketing lives. That ten of us were able to share it with our spouses was a highlight in our personal lives too. We are all indebted to the effort made by Stirling in making this tour happen and ensuring its success. The all so necessary military style precision of comings and goings (and warm‐ups) by the leader was more than matched by the empathy and caring outwardly displayed by him to those in times of need of which there were a few. That so many on tour were willing to assist in so many ways is testament to the enjoyment we shared with everlasting memories and friendships made or enhanced. Thank you Stirling for a wonderful tour and a job well done!

Some thoughts from the President

What a privilege to be selected for the Australian Over 60’s Cricket Team to tour South Africa in the inaugural over 60’s tour to that country. Despite a major setback in my attempt to be totally fit for the tour, a detached hamstring in late October caused more than a minor headache until my orthopaedic specialist told me that he would have me ready in three months, just in time to join the party.

This tour was indeed a major challenge. We were charting new territory and all except one of the touring party had never played , nor did we have any real cricketing contacts there. It was evident that we would be playing against opposition teams which in most parts were considerably younger than ourselves, just another challenge to face. We were not only players, but ambassadors and evangelists spreading the good word about Seniors Cricket. The eighteen players and eleven partners (WAGS) revelled in the roles that they had to undertake.

South Africa has much to be proud of and we were fortunate to visit the major cricket centres on our month long journey which incorporated 14 matches, all played in great spirit in some idyllic settings. Who could forget our match at the ‘Field of Dreams at Pezula, Knysna or ‘The Oval’ at Newlands, Cape Town and the smile on Michael the groundsman’s face when he was presented with Stirling’s cap. Such memories won’t fade. This is what makes good tours really great!

The Aussies embarked on this tour full of expectation and destined to perform at our best. The over 60’s movement has not reached SA as yet so this concept was very new to our hosts. That the Over 60’s and 70’s movement has taken Australia by storm was news in SA. Currently some 1200 Aussie Over 60’s and 70’s are participating regularly in some form of Seniors Cricket. Competition is very healthy amongst the States with regular Interstate challenges and of course there is our much valued annual journey to the Nationals. Our numbers are growing very rapidly at an annual rate of some 16 ‐ 18% and it is expected that this growth rate will be maintained for some years. The Senior’s movement will become an essential part of the fabric of cricket in Australia as it enables the oldies to continue in the game they love and allows them to rekindle many friendships. Congratulations to Stirling on the outstanding job as organiser and Captain. Well done to the remaining tourists, particularly Ross for his invaluable role as Manager. Long may we continue to enjoy Australia’s Favourite Sport!

Official South African 2014 Tour Report by Stirling Hamman

1 BACKGROUND The 2014 South African tour was conceived whilst the O60s were on tour in NZ in February 2013. Senior experienced players asked “where to now?” ... South Africa was the answer. It was mentioned in my previous NZ tour report dated 15/3/13 to our SCA Board as a recommendation for the immediate future destination of our 060s National Team. After due deliberations our SCA Board approved the tour in April 2013 to take place in February 2014. The Australian 060s National Tour of South Africa was conducted over 27 nights from Monday 3rd February until the safe arrival home of the 18 member team and their 10 partners on Monday 3rd March 2014. In my respectful submission, the South African tour was an outstanding success in all aspects of its aims and operations both on and off the field.

2 ITINERARY a...The 28 day itinerary is attached hereto. b... As mentioned, our SCA Board approved the tour in April 2013 for it to take place in February 2014. This was a very good time span in which to organise everything especially when faced with the particular challenges of South Africa. Organisational considerations included..... * We had never done this part of the world before so we had no contacts and didn’t know what to expect or how matters worked. *Hence the engagement of a local sports tour agent. * The overall travel itinerary over 4 weeks including the combination of sight ‐seeing of a very scenic country with 14 cricket games; proper accommodation throughout and all travel arrangements including International and Domestic air fares and all internal coach transfers. * All items costed and payments made to many different entities. *Calling for nominations; selections; ordering and delivering clothing; gathering and dissemination of important information and tour protocols and all other necessary pre‐tour matters. Now that we have done it and have established precedents with local contacts the lead time will be shorter next time. It would be wise to allow at least 8 months organising this tour again as there will be different areas visited. c...The primary aim of the tour was to ignite and promote South Africa as the 4th test playing nation to be involved in our Senior’s Cricket movement. We knew we were starting from scratch as over there most players retire from the game in their early 40s and there are no mature aged competitions in the cities to engage them. Subsidiary aims included... *A competitive cricket tour for our available elite players in accordance with SCA Board’s policy. *To maintain the regular yearly overseas 060s touring ethic. *To provide an opportunity to blood new younger players in the overseas touring experience with best practice so that they can carry the torch when required in years to come. *To explore the tourist opportunities of South Africa whilst playing cricket. d...Due to the perceived security risks and uncertainty of touring South Africa, it was decided at the very start of planning to engage a local sports tour operator to advise on the welfare of the group and to assist us in our tour requirements. If anything went wrong during the tour it was determined that the local operator was more likely to achieve a quicker and more advantageous outcome in a mixed group situation than someone operating from Australia. The vastly experienced Ken Childs of ‘PK Sports Cape Town’ was chosen on a trusted local recommendation. This was a big success especially as Ken was a former Chairman of the influential Cape Town CC and was well connected with the Western Cape and other

Page 76 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of South Africa 2014 – Tour Report

cricket officials throughout the country. This proved to be invaluable and the contacts we made will be beneficial to our cause for many years. e...The tour model was similar to that of NZ (unlike the English experience) in that we were going from the far north to the far south over long distances rather than located in one spot for lengthy periods playing local teams. South Africa was different again as the distances were much further than NZ and ventured over some high‐risk security regions. Aggravating this issue were the factors of playing 14 games in 20 days at the age of 60+ so that excessive travelling was going to cut deep into our energy levels and thus affect the performance and enjoyment of the tour. Hence it was decided to fly from Johannesburg to Durban and from Durban to Port Elizabeth. This eliminated 2 x 11 hour bus trips over scenery which was regarded as secondary. Fortunately the cost of those flights was less than $200 each so it was cost effective. It was also decided to hire a coach with a guide and driver for transfers and the trip down the famous “Garden Route” to make the most of the travel and game liaison in foreign surroundings. It was not coincidental that we had quality assistance as ‘PK Sports’ is a very experienced and highly respected travel agency. Several groups from Melbourne had also retained their services to attend the TEST MATCHES between Australia vs. South Africa which were held throughout the country during our time there. f... We planned 2+ games in each major centre so that we could engage as many of the key locals as we could. This was very successful as their Clubs were well established with exceptionally good grounds and their players were separate from one another within the same town. A truly memorable occasion was the coaching program that was conducted with the Australian O60s and the youngsters from the local black community near Knysna. A group of some 40 – 50 local lads aged 9 – 14 were delighted to be coached by the visiting Aussies; so much so, that they were intent on joining us in our warm‐up, prior to the commencement of the match with the local team. For future tours, coaching programs such as these should be included where possible and we should arrange to take Australian coaching kits such as ‘Milo – Have a Go’ to distribute to the locals. g...We also planned to spend as much time at tour’s end as we could in Cape Town where the game is still very strong. Hence we played 5 games in 6 days there and this proved to be beneficial as we met many different players and officials and experienced different top class grounds. h...As part of our itinerary on our last full tour day we attended the opening day of the crucial Third Test Match between Australia vs. South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town as special guests of the Western Province Cricket Club. Indeed our President Kerry Emery and I were special guests of the WPCC Committee for the day and in addition to addressing the Committee at lunch we met a senior representative of the ICC and discussed Senior’s cricket worldwide. i...We adopted our findings from previous tours, namely, it was best to rest for 3‐4 days after a long aeroplane flight, as it is believed that playing too soon provides substantial risks to leg injuries. Hence we took the opportunity to visit a game park for the first 4 days. This proved to be an absolute winner as it gave us time to rest, bond and ease into gentle exercises and team skill drills. j...As this tour was primarily a developmental one to a very scenic and interesting tourist destination we had 11 WAGS on tour. This number may have also increased due to the fact that many of the players had toured previously and wished to share the experience with their partners. This was the greatest number of WAGS in the 4 x 060s tours to date. In the 2 previous tours the mere fact that the itinerary showed massive amounts of cricket to the exclusion of sightseeing opportunities may have prevented female participation as it was obvious that cricket was the main fare on the menu. In this regard due attention needs to be given about the definition and fulfilment of the primary aim of any representative overseas Australian Senior’s Cricket tour. Despite this, from my experience all WAGS who have come on these essentially cricket tours have contributed significantly to the welfare and harmony of the group. k...Finally the exchange rate of A$1= 9.5 in a low cost base country made touring South Africa an absolute winner. This outstanding value made everything so cheap and affordable for everyone including those with restricted funds. It provided many options for team and individual enjoyment no matter where we went. The cost and hence length of a tour are always main considerations but they were well satisfied in South Africa which is a further reason to revisit this country.

Page 77 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of South Africa 2014 – Tour Report

3 THE SELECTED TEAM Immediately following the National Championships on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in early September 2013 the following team was selected by our Touring Committee... STIRLING HAMMAN (RH BAT /MED BOWLER) NSW CAPTAIN ROSS CHAPMAN (LH UPPER BAT) QLD VICE/ CAPTAIN/MANAGER BRIAN KRATZMAN (RH BAT /MED BOWLER) QLD JOHN FRYER (RH BAT /MED BOWLER) NSW BRIAN SCOTT (RH MED BOWLER) NSW DENIS AXELBY (RH BAT /RH OFF SPIN BOWLER) ACT CAM MCDONALD (WICKETKEEPER/RH BAT) NSW JOHN MASON (RH UPPER BAT) SA COLIN COOKE (RH OPENING BOWLER) QLD GIL CHAPMAN (WICKETKEEPER/RH OPENING BAT) QLD JOHN O'SHAUGHNESSY (RH BAT /RH LEG SPIN BOWLER) NSW PETER HARRISON (RH OPENING BAT /RH OFF SPIN BOWLER) NSW NEV KRATZMAN (RH OPENING BAT /MED BOWLER) QLD PAUL CULLEN (RH BAT /LH MED/SPIN BOWLER) ACT RON KASPUTIS (RH OPENING BOWLER) VIC PATRICK LOGUE (RH BAT /MED BOWLER) QLD KERRY EMERY (LH ORTHODOX SPIN BOWLER) QLD GREG TIDEMAN (WICKETKEEPER/RH BAT) NSW

The team was a reasonable representation from our member States. a...In accordance with the National selection policy the team was deliberately balanced so there were many playing options to cover any contingency. As with our previous 2 tours this policy proved to be absolutely correct. Despite 2 players having pre‐tour injuries they were passed fit to come and although they occasionally aggravated their injuries we had their roles covered and this allowed them time to recover. In the end they performed creditably and contributed significantly to our results. Overall the players were fit to play when required. We knew from our previous 2 tours our strict regime of daily warm‐up exercises ensured peak fitness and stamina over the 4 weeks. b...Our National team’s strength has improved significantly since we toured the UK in 2012. Our experienced batsmen in Ross Chapman, Peter Harrison and John Mason continue to perform with distinction and our established pace attack led by Colin Cooke, Ron Kasputis and Brian Scott continue to produce the goods. This scenario is reinforced with the all‐round skills of Neville and Brian Kratzman, John Fryer and myself. However on this tour we improved our middle order batting and bowling with the advent of Pat Logue and the return of Paul Cullen. Our middle of the innings bowling benefitted with the addition of 3 excellent spin bowlers in Dennis Axelby (who was the tour’s leading wicket taker), John O’Shaughnessy and Kerry Emery. We were also strengthened by the consistent performances of 3 skilful wicketkeeper/bats in Cam MacDonald, Gil Chapman and Greg Tideman. c...The player’s individual results are set out in the statistics and I commend them to everyone. I congratulate all players on their performances which were excellent. The attitude and effort of every player could not be faulted. As the tour progressed their continued enthusiasm and determination saw their match fitness and teamwork improve markedly and this was reflected in the team’s successful performances especially at tour’s end in Cape Town. d...At all times we tried to equalise game opportunities so that everyone got a decent and equal chance to perform. This concept is a must on a long overseas tour especially when players are selected to perform particular roles in the National side. In this respect we have proved again the Recycle batting rule is fundamental to our touring team’s harmony. So much so, in most games we lowered the batsmen’s recycle rate to 25 runs. This provided more batting opportunities and return on everyone’s tour

Page 78 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of South Africa 2014 – Tour Report

investment which is an important factor. All of our touring players at this level expect an opportunity to bat in their rightful place and contribute to the team’s performance. As with our National titles our policy must be highly successful as there are now greater numbers than ever before wishing to nominate for selection on every 060s National Senior’s overseas tour. e...We must always search for improvement and in future selections we now require more younger quality players who have energy in the field and can bowl with skill and effect or can accelerate the scoring at will. From my observations across the States these players are definitely in the pipeline.

4 TOUR PREPARATION a... Prior to the tour, the usual instructions were issued to everyone to get physically fit. Everyone responded to the call and presented accordingly. We were fortunate, like in NZ, to tour during the peak of our season so our players were in better match condition than travelling to the UK in our off‐season. b...All players had the required blazer and team uniform and were required to wear suitable team clothing depending on the occasion such as to games, airports, formal occasions, restaurants and the like. At the Newlands’ Test Match we were readily observed at the ground and on National TV in our blazers. At all times the team and the WAGS presented themselves properly and were a glowing advertisement for our SCA movement. This protocol should continue.

5 RESULTS a...In total we won 8, lost 5 and had 1 washout where both sides remained at the ground until well after lunch wanting to play. For the actual results I invite a perusal of the scoresheets. b... We lost our first 2 games in the last over and could have won both matches as we created the opportunities to do so. Unfortunately we murdered the game at the ‘Field of Dreams’ on the 5 star Pezula Resort. We were chasing a moderate total, but lost by poor batting application with several batsmen getting a start but giving their wickets away. Having regard to the experience in our team this was inexcusable. Although these things tend to happen from time to time on tour we were good enough over the entire tour for it to occur only once which is acceptable in the circumstances. b...Overall we played good cricket in every match particularly at the back end of the tour when we beat fancied opposition. The exception was the game vs. Golden Bulls in Cape Town when despite repeated requests by the organisers they fielded many players who were old enough to be our sons. Despite this we nevertheless put in a defiant performance and the after‐match relations were excellent. c....Of course on a pilgrim tour like this one we did not expect to play teams with all players over 60 and hence the absence of an official ODI. Ken Childs did a remarkable job in organising the games so that nearly every team went to great lengths to field players of mature age. Mostly the opposition were aged from 45‐69 and except for some fitness issues they displayed very good cricket skills and a desire to keep playing if given the structure and opportunity. We played 3 former South African International Cricketers and met several others either at the games or at functions. All were very engaging and supportive of our tour and wished us to return.

6 OFF‐FIELD ARRANGEMENTS a...The game park experience was fantastic and well worth repeating next time probably at a different location. b...The accommodation and travel arrangements were first class. c...Our guide and bus drivers were knowledgeable and great characters who always had our welfare as their primary concern. Their contribution to our tour enjoyment was enormous and greatly appreciated. d...The tourist activities were wonderful and highly recommended. Again a balance needs to be struck with this and playing cricket, having in mind this is primarily a representative National cricket tour. e...The cost of the tour came within budget and there may be a small dividend payable to each member after all media expenses including the tour books, calendar and movie are paid.

f...The Wags were amazing. They were always totally supportive and highly entertaining especially singing our tour songs at the appropriate times. They attended all games and happily did any chore which would make the tour more enjoyable for everyone. Their efforts are acknowledged and greatly appreciated. g... The tour was great fun and everyone absolutely enjoyed it. They can be very proud of their achievements and I thank them for their energy and commitment in making it happen. h...I must record the monumental contributions to the harmony and efficient operation of the tour by our President Kerry Emery, Manager/Vice Captain Ross Chapman, Chronicle reporter John Fryer and Statistician and Tour Book author Peter Harrison. These members are very experienced administrators and the party was the beneficiary of their integrity and immense diligence. Without their collective input our tour success would have been significantly diminished. It is very important we have our Senior Board officials on tour. Chris Tobin was in NZ; Kerry Emery was in South Africa and Ron Axelby will be on the NSW/ACT State tour in UK in July 2014 so we can singularly build our overseas tour ethic and they are on hand to project our image aboard. Subject to selection, all future tours should strive for persons of this standing to be in the presentation and leadership groups.

7 TOUR OUTCOMES Following the successful tour to NZ in February 2013 my report dated 15/3/13 to the Board stated... “8...THE FUTURE; The task is now to build upon the work done and maintain the International touring momentum. To achieve this we need a plan going forward. In this regard I propose for favourable National consideration. A....An Australian National over 60s tour to New Zealand in February 2015. B....An Australian National over 60s tour to South Africa in February 2014. (To secure the 4th Test playing nation; exclusive of the Ashes in Australia 2014 and to provide an incentive for selection at the Nationals in September 2013)”

Having just completed the South African tour within the contemplated time span I can categorically say the South African tour was an outstanding success having regard to those aims. This can be measured by.... *The SCA Board approved the tour which provided a structure and plan for our National tours going forward for the next 12 months. *That approval was rewarded by 26 nominations with only 18 selected. This established there was more than enough interest to go on the tour outside the normal nominees. *The National touring committee fulfilled its duty in selecting the team based on the national selection criteria which included team roles, performances both past and present within those roles, experience, team harmony and other criteria. This meant that our committee system worked both efficiently and productively when required. *Of the 18 selected, there were 5 new players who hadn’t toured before. This meant that the “fundamental core” of 13 of the touring team were experienced skilful players who had toured with the team before in the last 2 years. This proves that the better players totally support the vision and the concept of our SCA Board. *The touring party was selected and announced at the Dinner of the National titles in September 2013. This maintained credibility and integrity in the SCA Board’s initiatives, processes and procedures. *The itinerary was set with the advice and retention of experts on the ground in South Africa in keeping with “best practice” provisions. *The tour was organised to the same standards as previously established with similar tours with the appropriate clothing, plaques, balls, gifts; with tour information about pre‐tour fitness and behaviour distributed. *The tour eventuated and 14 games organised. Every game was attended. *John Fryer maintained his exemplary standard of daily tour reports sent home to all necessary contacts including the newspapers.

*The local South African mature aged cricketers and administrators were fully engaged and are totally supportive of the concept of Senior’s Cricket. At their request I will maintain that contact and provide them with information as to the way forward in setting up a suitable structure. If they are to obtain affiliation from Cricket South Africa they may have to deal with the challenge of the criteria concerning mixed races within the team. *Contact was also established with a Board Member of the ICC who awaits our submission regarding the acknowledgment and affiliation of Senior’s Cricket worldwide. He recommended that we pursue Cricket Australia higher up the governance level than game development. *Despite security concerns all players and WAGS arrived home safely due to the method of touring; information disseminated prior and during the tour; local assistance from an experienced local sports agent and the ongoing organisation and vigilance of the touring group. *In accordance with SCA Board directions the tour accounting has been done and awaiting completion with some final payments. RECOMMENDATION From our Board’s perspective I submit that every contemplated initiative from the report dated 15/3/2013 has been accomplished with respect to the South African tour. We certainly should revisit South Africa in 2 years’ time and although we have some cricket contacts, we should retain the services of ‘PK Sports’ tours again. After the next tour it is not out of the realms of possibility that they will send a National team here on tour.

8 THE FUTURE A tour plan for the next 2 years should be determined. This will maintain the touring momentum and provide a reward for the more skilful players in our pathway system. Considerations are... a...A return to the UK so that the traditional rivalry can continue. b...To NZ which is close and easy and requires urgent follow‐up. c...To South Africa which requires further follow‐up. d...To some other destination which is realistic and fruitful for the future. Accordingly I recommend the SCA Board approve the following National 060s tours: a... NZ in February 2015. b... UK in July/August 2015 subject to a satisfactory resolution over tour rules. c... South Africa in February 2016. d...An investigation report be provided to the SCA Board by the Touring Committee within 6 months as to other possible overseas destinations for the Seniors touring party.

I RECOMMEND THIS REPORT TO THE SCA BOARD.

Team Victory Song

ON THE ROAD TO VICTORY (Sung to the tune on the road to Gundagai)

There's a track winding back to an ol' Aussie Shack Upon the Road to Victory And there's an ol' fashioned cap that I wear upon that track We're the Road to Victory And when the Green and Gold are glowing The Ale keeps a' flowin' Beneath that Southern Sky Oh, no more will I roam till I head to my Aussie home, We're on the Road to Victory !!

And it's ol' fashioned song that I've been whistlin' all day long It's called the Road to Victory And it's on a road I've been shown from the hearts of Aussie's own It's called the Road to Victory And now the Green and Gold are glowing The Ale keeps on flowin' Beneath those Southern Stars Oh ! My Lord how they yield when the Aussies take the field, We're on the Road to Victory!
