TOURNAMENT TALKING POINTS  Zarina Diyas returns to Japan as No.6 seed to defend the title she won – her first at WTA level – against Japan’s Miyu Kato 12 months ago  Kato is one of four home representatives in the draw, joined by fellow wildcards Misaki Doi and Nao Hibino, as well as Japanese No.2  Two other players to have reached the final at the tournament’s previous homes of and Osaka are in the draw, Eugenie Bouchard and Magda Linette  Top seed this year is , who begins against youngster Magdalena Frech, while No.2 seed Hsieh Su-Wei takes on in the first round  One to Watch – Twenty-year-old Tamara Zidansek is appearing in just her fifth WTA main draw this week, however, judging by her recent progress she is likely to be a fixture at this level for years to come.
