Dress Code Staff members set an example in dress and grooming. Staff members should present an image of dignity, and one which encourages respect. Administration may send a staff member home to change if dressed inappropriately. Basis for a Dress Code: ▲ Employees are professional. ▲ Kalamazoo RESA is a community leader. ▲ Kalamazoo RESA and its employees are role models for the educational community. ▲ Employees represent the image of the district and the school. ▲ Employees dress for safety/job tasks ▲ Employee dress communicates a sense of pride in one’s profession and self-respect. Cleanliness of person, apparel, and good grooming are expected as a matter of health and professionalism, regardless of the position held. Pants/Shorts/Skirts/Dresses • Jeans, pants, capri pants, and shorts need to be professional looking. While blue jeans are not preferred, they are allowed. Blue jeans must be dark blue. NO stains, fading, wear, holes or tears. NO T-shirt, pajama, sweat pants or spandex material. • Shorts, skirts, and dresses must come down to just above the knee. • Shorts are only allowed June through August. Shirts/Tops • Shirts and tops need to be professional looking. • Plain T-shirts (without writing or logos) are acceptable • WoodsEdge and KRESA logo T-shirts are acceptable Shoes/Sandals • Closed-toe shoes are required. • Open-toe shoes should only be worn by office staff. • NO sandals of any kind. Swimwear • Women must wear modest one piece suits • Men must wear swim trunks Unacceptable Dress • Shirts with writing or logos other than WoodsEdge and KRESA • Torn/ripped/faded/stained/wrinkled clothing • Spaghetti Straps • Exposed cleavage, buttocks, midriff or arm pits • Obscene or overly distracting tatoos • Any clothes that are too tight, too low cut, too short or too revealing, including backless • Thongs or bikini bathing suits • Speedo suits • Sweat pants • Pajamas/pajama pants/lounge wear • Visible undergarments • No sandals Acceptable Dress • Slacks/pants/jeans (dark blue) • Capri’s or shorts worn at or below the knees • Skirts/dresses that are modest, professional length, falling at the knee or longer • Sleeveless shirts (women only) • Tank top with a shirt over it • Proper undergarments should be worn • Closed toe shoes Exceptions • Planned all school or classroom special events (however, professionalism and appropriateness for a school is expected) • Office staff follow the KRESA service center dress code • Gym staff may wear jogging suits, gym shorts, and sweatpants in good repair Procedures for Addressing Dress Code Violations • Classroom teacher/Certified staff is responsible to insure the dress code is followed by all staff, practicum students and volunteers in their classroom/specialty area. They will address concerns privately with individuals and request administrator assistance if this does not correct the problem. • Other staff members noticing a problem with someone’s dress should feel comfortable bringing it to the attention of the supervising teacher/certified staff member so that it can be addressed. Sometimes in our busy daily routines, we may not notice something that needs to be addressed. • Administrators will address any dress code concerns individually with teachers or other certified staff members and office staff. .
