QUEANBEYAN TIGERS HEAD BACK TO THE 1960s

It’s often said that if you remember the 1960s you didn’t really live in them. It was apparently a wild and free-spirited era.

For the Tigers, it was a pretty tough period in our history. After making a grand final in 1961, the Club went through a sustained0' period'* of$ poor* "results- and1 limited" playing35 numbers/& which3 lead4 to a4 merger6 with1 the1 Turner-* Football&3 Club4 in 1966.

In the upcoming AFL Canberra Heritage Round next weekend, 8-9 July, we’ll be wearing an adaptation of the jumper worn during the merger years of the 60s.

The original jumper featured blue and white hoops, made famous by Geelong, and a simple yellow “Q” on the left chest. For our clash with the Belconnen Magpies on Saturday 8 July at Kippax our heritage jumper design includes a large “Q” on the front. As a tribute the players who saw us through some tough times, the “Q” includes an image of one of the teams from those days.

This is our tribute to the players who kept our club alive through that period and were part of getting us to where we are today.

It’s appropriate that we wear this jumper in the clash as both the Tigers and Belconnen share a past history with Turner Football Club. After disbanding the merger with the Tigers in 1969, the Turner Football Club became in 1970.

We encourage anyone who was involved with Turner, and the days of the merger with Queanbeyan, to come along to Kippax on 8 July and reminisce about local football in the late 1960s.

We offer a big thanks to Sportsmans Warehouse for coordinating our Heritage Round jumpers and for the financial support that helped us to purchase them.

Thanks also to Sherwood Sportswear for manufacturing our Heritage Round jumpers. We think they look great! SENIOR LISTS QUEANBEYAN TIGERS
