Specials Connection

Hello ERA families. The Specials team is working hard to help bring some fun into your “at home” time. Below is a list of links that might help you over the next few weeks. If our current situation calls for longer school closures, we will roll out a daily calendar of “do at home” activities for your student.

Engineering Links from Mrs. Apelgren K-2 Funology- Crafts, projects, experiments and even some jokes and trivia The Cat in the Hat Interactive website hosted by PBS kids. I tried the free Invention Engine game where you create a marble run. Ask Dr. Universe- This is a great sight to navigate with your child. We spend a lot of time at school encouraging kids to wonder about things and ask questions. This sight is perfect for that. Free Apps- Scratch Jr. All K-2 kids have some experience with this programming platform and can teach you a thing or two. Tynker Jr. This is a new app but I love Tynker so if your K-2 student loves programming check it out

3-6 Design Squad Great building challenges with everyday items, you can also create an account and post your designs. Nasa Space Place I like the crafts and activities pages. The no-bake moon cookies look pretty good. Wonderville- videos, comics and experiments. You will need to create an account. I want to do the “Everybody Loves Chocolate” experiment and the “Bouncing Ball ” looks fun. Free Apps- Tynker- loads of programming fun and includes free tutorials You can also try grown up Scratch which is online. We use Scratch Jr. so I’m guessing they will figure it out pretty quickly.

Please email me at [email protected] if you have questions or want to pass on other good links or apps. Stay healthy and have fun! ------Visual Art Links/Activities from Mrs. Velasco
