SEATTLE -- Reed Rawlings scored 14 of his 17 points during the decisive stretch late in the LAS VEGAS -- Dalron Johnson amassed 20 points and 11 rebounds, leading UNLV to an 82- first half Monday as Athletes in Action posted a 76-59 win over Washington in the Huskies' final exhibition game at Bank of America Arena. AIA improved to 2-9 on its 12-game tour that included one- 61 win over Washington at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Rebels (3-0) avenged a 77-64 loss to the point losses to eighth-ranked Alabama and No. 17 Kentucky. UW head coach Lorenzo Romar played Huskies (0-2) last year in Seattle. UNLV outscored UW 25-11 at the free throw line, including a 16- for AIA from 1985-92, also serving as the head coach from 1989-92. The Huskies raced out to an 18- 3 first-half margin. The Rebels opened an early 22-11 lead, but were then held without a field goal for 6 lead eight minutes into the contest. Athletes in Action responded with a 34-8 run over the next 11 nearly seven minutes. UW trimmed the deficit to four points during that span, but UNLV hit 10 of 14 minutes, opening a 40-26 advantage with 0:36 left in the first half. AIA led 42-28 at halftime and started free throws to maintain the lead that was 39-31 at halftime. The lead grew to as many as 23 points in the second half with a 9-0 run to go ahead 51-28. The Huskies never got closer than 11 points despite the second half, fueled by Marcus Banks who tallied 12 of his 14 points after halftime. The Matadors (6-4) led 25-20 before UW largest margin of victory in 182 games, dating to a 95-44 win over BYU on Nov. 26, 1996. drew even at 33 by halftime with a 13-8 run over the final seven minutes. The Huskies opened the Robinson shot 6-of-10 from the field and hit 2-of-4 treys. The Huskies (3-4) made 10-of-19 second half with a 13-4 surge and extended the lead to as many as 18 points while holding Northridge shots from 3-point range, including three straight by reserve guard David Hudson on their final without a basket for over six minutes.
