Hello Neighbours, In the Northern Hemisphere SUMMER begins June 21st and ends September 23rd. So continue to enjoy the SUMMER SEASON!

… granted it is a “low point” in TV scheduling with many “reality” shows. … and Movie theatres experience higher traffic.

Coming up… Guided Writing Group Tuesdays 10am—12pm October 1st for 8 weeks Join with friends!

NOTEABLE SAYINGS that speak TRUTH  GREATNESS is NOT about wealth… but integrity and positivity in all!  When one door closes—another opens!  Success and Failure are all part of life.  TODAY choose life no matter what happens or what changes along the way.  PATIENCE is not about waiting for something…. It’s about HOW you wait.  The past has no power to keep you from having an amazingly good future.

Since KNOWLEDGE is only BENEFICIAL if you apply it… FEAR a. IDENTIFY the root of your fear, NAME IT! Go with what first comes up. b. RELAX. BREATHE DEEPLY. Put your focus on each breathe.

c. FEEL where in your body it resonates. BREATHE into this area to release it.

d. Accept your feeling. Accept yourself. No judgements please.

e. RELAX. BREATHE DEEPLY. Healing is happening. Lack of trust is being released. f. AFFIRM by speaking or in your thoughts,

“I NO longer need this fear to protect me. I trust the process of of LIFE.”

Take 6-7 minutes often each to restore your belief (FAKE it until you make it) OR as Dr. Phil

would say, “UNTIL…”

A special invitation: Bow Cliff 50+ sponsors monthly Amica Aspen Woods Social with free food, refresh- ments, song, laughter and a “Meet, Greet” with your neighbours. WHEN? you ask? Every 4th Friday of the month at 6pm. Join the 40, 50, 60 and yes, maybe 70 neighbours who flock in and love it.

It’s a celebration for our members with an opportunity to invite a friend. Memberships can be purchased on site. New members bring new ideas and support Bow Cliff to fulfill their “mission of service” and opportunity to help grow our community by meaningful volunteering.

Let us know if you would like to sponsor a program for which you have a passion. Also let us hear your idea to recommend for your enjoyment. And remember your SMILE makes a Happy World!! SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAYS

Have a wonderful September! – Calgary Signal Hill Constituency Outreach and Communications #2216 8561 8 A Ave SW Calgary,

As you read this newsletter an election will have already been called or is about to be called.

I want to take this opportunity to thank constituents of Calgary Signal Hill for your support over the past four years. It is an honour to be a Member of Parliament and at no time should that ever be taken for granted.

Many constituents I meet will ask “why aren’t you in Ottawa?” Members of Parliament sit about half the year in our nation’s capital with the remainder of the year devoted to constituency work. Meeting with stakeholders and community organizations provides MPs with direct input as to what constituents feel and where their priorities lie. Nowhere is that more evident than being in Ottawa.

While sitting in the House of Commons is an important role, the interaction with constituents is why most members chose to run. I look forward to that interactive dialogue over the next two months as daily doorknocking takes place leading up to the next election.

You may have heard that a bill proposing to change the name of our riding from Calgary Signal Hill to , to take effect for this election, was passed unanimously by the House of Commons more than a year ago. I asked for this change in order to respect the heritage of this riding, and make it more inclusive of all constituents, not just those that live in Signal Hill. Unfortunately, the bill was never approved by the Senate, which is required to become law, so the riding will remain as Calgary Signal Hill.

While I am campaigning, my office will still be working on your behalf so our office remains open to assist constituents of Calgary Signal Hill. If you require assistance with departments within the fed- eral government such as Service Canada or Immigration, please feel free to contact the office at 403 292-6666 or email [email protected].

Back to School Basics in Emergency Planning

September is the start of a new year-- school year that is. As you plan for the new school year, be sure to plan for how you would reunite with your family if an emergency or disaster happened while everyone was at work or school.

“After a disaster, the faster children can reunite with the people they know and love, the better the out- comes will be,” says Chief Tom Sampson of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. “Take the time to create an emergency action plan that includes phone numbers, emergency contacts and meeting plac- es.”

It is important that children know the types of hazards in Calgary and understand what to do in an emer- gency. Create an emergency action plan as a family. Kids can help identify exit routes in the home, plan for pets and suggest meeting spots outside of the home. Once the plan is set, practice it! Planning and practicing helps bolster children’s confidence and reduces anxiety about disasters.

Emergencies can happen at any time, so make a plan for what to do if you are separated from your kids when an emergency occurs. In an ideal world, everyone would have phone numbers memorized, but since that is not always possible, create small contact cards for each member of the family, listing phone numbers and contact information.

Talk to childcare providers and your children’s school to learn about their emergency plan and share your emergency plan with them.

Visit calgary.ca/getready to download a fillable emergency plan and learn more about how you can pre- pare for the disasters or emergencies that are possible in Calgary.
