TH E DISTRIB U TI O N B RAN CH The Distribution Bran ch consisting of the main yard at 7 1 0 Albany street (with a small suby ard in Charlestown) and three district yards are responsible for the repair and maintenan ce of main pipes , service and fire pipes , hydrants , gates and providing emergen cy and general service to the public . The main yard main tains emergen cy crews around the clock for any water service that may be required in any section of the city . The main yard and three district yards were assisted t by three con racting firms , one in each yard with one contractor having two districts . The contractual work consisted Of excavation and back fil ling to allow water division employees to repair leaks , lay or relay water c services , hange hydrants and repair or replace defective n appurtena ces . This contractual work was performed i n a satisfactory manner and proved its value by giving t h service to e public .

It is unfortunate that for many years the surplus of the W ater Division was not allowed to accumulate a reserve fund which would have been available when water receipts failed to meet expenditures .
