26 27 SUN 15.3. G. DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPETITIONS OF THE EVENT 16:15 Mixed Relay

Mixed Relay SPRINT COMPETITION / MEN AND WOMEN While the women ski 7.5 km and the men 10 km in sprint competitions, the format is Green course, 3 x 2.5 km exactly the same: it’s a time-trial competition with two shooting stages, 1 prone and 1 standing. Each missed target results in a penalty loop of 150m. Competitors start at 30-second intervals, but under particular circumstances, the jury can opt for longer or shorter intervals. The winner is determined by the fastest time at finish, which means in principle that any start number can be the winner.

PURSUIT COMPETITION / MEN AND WOMEN

This format allows the top 60 athletes (or more if there is a tie for 60th place in the qualification competition) in the sprint (in some circumstances, an individual competition can be used as a qualification to make up the start list too) event to compete over 10km for women and 12.5km for men. Competitors make four stops at the shooting range: the first two in the prone position and the last two in standing. The start interval is determined by the results of the sprint competition so that the winner starts first, the second follows by the time back from the sprint results and so on until 60th (in the case of a pursuit following an individual, time gaps are halved). In case athletes are more than four minutes back, they start 4 minutes behind the leader. If there are more athletes at that point, they all start in a single wave, which means going out at the same time. Just as in the sprint, each missed target corresponds to a penalty loop of 150m. The winner of the pursuit is whomever crosses the finish line first.

28 29 H. MEDIA GUIDE GOES ONLINE

This year it will be possible to see the Media Guide also online. This change will help sharing the updated information for Media on real time.

Please see more information here: SINGLE MIXED RELAY www.kontiolahtibiathlon.com/media This fast paced format has teams of one woman and one man per country competing over a total distance of 6 km for women and 7.5 km for men with four shooting stages each. The lap is 1.5 km for both women and men, while the penalty loop is 75m long. Just as in the regular relays, athletes have three spares to load manually in case of missed shots. The female starts the competition and tags the man after the first two shooting stages (prone and standing). The handover is done directly after the range/penalty loop exit. The same woman returns to the track after the man finishes. The man returns second time and skis an additional lap after the last shooting stage before crossing the finish line. The first team at the finish is the winner.

MIXED RELAY

As the name says, the mixed relay is a mixed-gender competition, formed with teams of two women and two men. The competition specifics are, in principle the same as in the regular relays, but with a woman starting the competition and handing over to her female colleague afterwards, before the two men conclude this relay. Women compete over 6 km, men for 7.5 km.
