CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS DOCTORING This first and second year course exposes students to the type of patient-centered, ethical, and humane physicians Alpert Medical School aims to produce. This early exposure to patients and medical practice is excellent preparation for immersion in the clinics during year three and four. GLOBAL HEALTH INITIATIVE (GHI) The initiative operates programs in 33 countries, 28 of which are developing nations. GHI supports student involvement in high-impact research, teaching, and service. INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS Exchange programs allow Brown medical students to participate in courses or research projects tuition-free at any of our 8 partner institutions. Likewise, international students from these institutions may choose to take clinical electives at Alpert Medical School with tuition waived. RESEARCH Office of Diversity and Students have a number of options for structuring a Multicultural Affairs (ODMA) research experience within the context of their medical studies. This can take the form of a brief independent study, a longitudinal experience, a summer experience, an additional year of study, or a second degree program. SCHOLARLY CONCENTRATION PROGRAM Students may opt to undertake rigorous independent scholarship in a cross-disciplinary field of interest related to medicine in 13 areas: Advocacy and Activism; Aging; Caring for Underserved Communities; Contemplative Studies; Disaster Medicine and Response; Global Health; Health Policy; Integrative Medicine; Medical Education; Medical Humanities and Ethics; Medical Technology and Innovation; Physician as Communicator; and Women’s Reproductive Health.
