Long-term Acute Care Hospitals Group Measure Data Graphs April 2016 MHA OCT 2007 Analysis of the Statistical Significance of Hospital Measure Rates Because the measure rates for the hospitals are for a specific period of time, and because there is variability in performance over time because of chance and other factors, there is a degree of uncertainty about the extent to which a hospital’s measure rate may reflect its true underlying performance. Without taking this uncertainty into account, we cannot conclude that a hospital with a measure rate that is higher or lower than the group rate is truly performing at a worse or better rate than the group. Statisticians use confidence intervals to account for this uncertainty.

  • Behavioral Health Integration Policy Brief Prepared for the Bipartisan Policy Center Stephanie Gold, MD, Perry Dickinson, MD, Larry Green, MD
Brief 7, April 2020 Behavioral Health Integration Policy Brief Prepared for the Bipartisan Policy Center Stephanie Gold, MD, Perry Dickinson, MD, Larry Green, MD The need for behavioral health integration (BHI): The aim of health care is to help people solve or live with their health-related problems. There are constant and unavoidable interactions of mental, emotional, behavioral and physical problems that require integration of primary care and behavioral health. What is the current landscape of primary care delivery of behavioral health services? • Integrated care is being implemented in practices of all types • Payment and workforce shortages remain significant barriers to scaling implementation of integrated care • More integration in urban, larger practices compared to rural and smaller practices, but rural-urban difference may be mostly explainable by practice size1 o ~ 45% PCPs are co-located with a BH provider (with the rates in urban areas close to twice that of rural areas). No significant change in these numbers 2010 – 2018.2,3 • Some states are more advanced than others. The State Innovation Model (SIM) has been a mechanism for advancing BHI in several states:4 o Practice facilitation and multipayer support for BHI into primary care settings (CO) o Implementation of behavioral health homes (ME, MN) o ACOs requiring or incentivizing BHI (MN, VT, MA) o Inclusion of BH metrics in payment and delivery models (OR, MA, VT, MN, ME) o Invested in technical assistance for BH (OR, ME, MN, VT, MA) How do the delivery of care and challenges

  • AN INVESTIGATION of the MENTAL HOSPITAL BUILDING TYPE Irvin J
AN INVESTIGATION OF THE MENTAL HOSPITAL BUILDING TYPE Irvin J. Kohler August 1954 Submitted to the faculty of the Department of Architecture, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in partial fulfillment of masterts thesis study, 1954. FOREWARD This study is concerned with the application of .the disciplines of architecture to the problems of the care and treatment of the mentally ill. I feel that there is sufficient justification to demand the re-thinking of build- ings housing the patient's treatment and living facilities to make them more in keeping with our standards of contem- porary achievements in both architecture and psychiatry. The limitations of such a study were: the study, itself; the personal limitations of the investigator; and the presentation. The gap between architecture and psy- chiatry is tremendous. Each is a field unto itself, but the two must be joined together if there is to be a satisfactory solution to the problems of the mental hospital building type. A great deal of time and research was necessary be- fore the writer could even begin to bridge this gap, due to professional differences in terminology, outlook, and ap- proach. The next limitation was my personal discomfort when I saw the patients illhoused, with very little in their en- vironment to help them retain their individuality and denied the right to facilities for a complete life because of build- ing deficiencies. The last limitation was that the presen- tation of such a study must necessarily be orderly and cata- logue in an organized way what a mental hospital is and needs. However, no such order is in existence in the actual build- ing, and unfortunately this presentation tends to leave the reader with the concept of order in the mental hospital.

  • Introduction
15 Introduction The Neonatal (newborn) Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Floating Hospital for Children is a 40-bed unit designed to provide highly specialized and technically advanced care to ill, premature, or high-risk babies. Skilled nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners and respiratory therapists staff the unit. This team of health care providers function together to provide the finest and most comprehensive care possible for your newborn. Some of the babies admitted to the NICU are born here at Tufts Medical Center, and some are born in community hospitals and then transported to us by members of our Neonatal Transport Team. Babies are admitted to the NICU for many reasons. Whatever the reason for admission, a wide range of pediatric subspecialty services is readily available for your newborn if necessary. Some of our specialty services include newborn medicine, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, pediatric neurology, pediatric otolaryngology, pediatric urology and many others, all available 24-hours/day. Soon after admission, your baby will be assigned a primary nurse and will be assigned to a team of physicians on the newborn medicine service. Tufts Medical Center is the principal teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine; there are many doctors at various levels of specialty training who will be involved with your baby’s care. At all times, the attending physician is ultimately responsible for the medical care your baby receives. If you have already chosen a pediatrician, please give his or her name to your baby’s nurse. Once identified, the pediatrician will receive routine updates, about once a week, while your baby is in the NICU.
